Psalm 151
Psalm 151
[A psalm of David, beyond the number; written in his own hand when he had fought Goliath.]
I was small among my brothers,
and the youngest in my father’s house;
I shepherded my father’s flock.
My hands fashioned a pipe,
my fingers a harp,
and I gave glory to the LORD.
I said within my heart:
The mountains do not witness to him,
nor do the hills proclaim;
the trees have prized my words,
and the flock my deeds.
For who can tell, and who can speak,
and who recount the works of the LORD?
God has seen all,
God has heard all,
and he has listened.
He sent his prophet to anoint me,
Samuel, to make me great.
My brothers went out to meet him,
fair of form and tall;
but the LORD did not choose them.
He sent and took me from behind the flock,
and anointed me with holy oil,
and made me leader of his people,
ruler over the sons of his covenant.
[Of his combat with the Philistine.]
I went out to meet the Philistine,
and he cursed me by his idols.
But I drew his own sword;
I cut off his head,
and took away reproach from the sons of Israel.
