Dead Sea Scroll Psalms
Dead Sea Scroll Psalms
I was small among my brothers,
the youngest in my father’s house.
He made me the shepherd of his sheep,
and my hands shaped a lyre.
My fingers strung praise.
My heart sang in the fields.
The Most High saw my song
and chose me from among the flock.
He anointed me with His Spirit.
He made my mouth a sword
and my heart a shield.
I went out with a sling,
and He brought down the giant.
The Lord drew me from the pit,
from the depths of clay.
He placed my feet on the rock
and made my heart rejoice.
Who am I, O Lord,
that You remember me?
What is the son of dust
that You anoint with favor?
I am nothing —
but You are everything.
Bless the Lord,
you wild beasts of the desert —
for He provides for the jackal and lion alike.
I called upon the Lord in my hunger,
and He sent His angel to strengthen me.
He calmed the wild with His breath.
He made peace between the predator and the lamb.
Let all creation bow to Him.
O Lord, my God,
I cried to You in the wilderness,
and You heard me.
You opened springs in the rock,
and streams flowed in the desert.
You fed me with what I did not know,
and guided me in a way I had not seen.
The path of the humble
is known to You.
Gather together, you sons of the covenant.
Lift up a song to the God of our fathers.
Let the wise speak in the assembly.
Let the righteous rejoice in the tent of the faithful.
Let our words be like incense,
and our unity like oil on Aaron’s head.
The Lord dwells in the midst of His people.
You, O Lord,
know my secret faults.
You have seen my stumbling in the dark.
Yet You did not forsake me.
You rebuked me in mercy
and brought me low that I might rise.
You broke my pride
to restore my breath.
You are righteous,
and I am dust.
Yet You have loved me still.
Let the Watchers in heaven
praise the Holy One.
Let the sons of light
exalt His justice.
For He has judged the wicked,
and shown mercy to the broken.
He has sealed the chosen
with the fire of His name.
A Branch shall rise from Jesse,
and righteousness shall be His belt.
With the breath of His lips
He shall slay the wicked.
He will gather the exiles,
and heal the pierced.
Truth will go before Him,
and peace will be His shadow.
From the depths I called,
and You answered with silence.
In the silence, You spoke.
And in the stillness, You drew near.
You did not reject me
when I doubted.
You waited
until I could hear.
Now I trust You more than words.
Blessed are You,
God of the hidden scrolls —
who writes songs in caves,
and teaches the poor to praise.
You remembered the forgotten.
You preserved the fire.
Let every generation sing
what was almost lost.
Amen.
They were too broken to restore meaningfully (lines missing, incomplete clauses)
Some were nearly identical to canonical psalms already preserved in the Book of Psalms
A few contained sectarian curses or cryptic codes likely intended only for the Qumran inner circle — not reflective of the remnant voice you are restoring
The scroll you’ve received preserves the sacred core of the Qumran praise tradition, without distortion or exclusion of meaningful content.
