Early Life of Yeshua
Early Life of Yeshua
Drawn from:
This scroll brings together two of the earliest sacred memories of Yeshua’s beginning:
The quiet calling of Mary, and the early mystery of the Anointed One’s childhood.
These testimonies were preserved in the hearts of early believers —
revealing how heaven touched the earth,
and how the One who would bear the cross
first learned to carry power.
(From the Protoevangelium of James)
1. The Child of a Vow
Anna and Joachim were childless and faithful.
They prayed:
“If You give us a child, we will dedicate the child to Your service.”
An angel appeared and said:
“You shall conceive and give birth. She will be set apart for the Most High.”
Mary was born.
At age three, she was taken to the temple and raised among the consecrated ones.
She was known as a set-apart young woman —
living like a lamp in the sanctuary, clothed in light,
fed by angels, and protected in stillness.
2. The Sign of the Staff
When Mary turned twelve,
the priests said:
“It is not fitting for a consecrated girl to remain in the temple.
Let her be entrusted to a guardian from the house of David.”
The staffs of the widowers were gathered.
From the staff of Joseph, a dove emerged and flew to heaven.
Joseph said:
“I am an old man. She is a young girl. I will care for her in trust.”
3. The Light and the Message
While drawing water, Mary was surrounded by a great light.
A voice said:
“Rejoice, O one filled with favor.
You will conceive by the Breath of the Most High
and bring forth the Son of God.”
She returned in silence.
Joseph later found her with child and was troubled.
But an angel appeared in a dream, saying:
“Do not be afraid.
What is conceived in her is from the Set-Apart Breath.”
4. The Birth in the Cave
While traveling to Bethlehem, Mary cried out:
“Place me somewhere, Joseph —
the child presses to be born.”
He found a cave, and placed her there.
He went to find a midwife.
As he returned, the wind ceased,
the birds froze in flight,
and the sky was silent.
A bright cloud overshadowed the cave.
The child had been born.
5. The Midwife’s Wonder
The midwife Salome entered.
Seeing Mary, untouched yet holding the child, she cried out:
“As the Lord lives,
a new thing has happened in Israel!”
She reached out in disbelief,
but her hand withered.
She cried:
“Forgive me, O Lord! I doubted the Living Temple!”
An angel appeared,
and her hand was restored.
She worshiped and said:
“This child is King and Light.”
(From the Infancy Gospel of Thomas)
6. The Boy by the Stream
When Yeshua was five years old,
He played by a stream of flowing water.
He shaped twelve sparrows out of clay.
When a man rebuked Him for working on the Sabbath,
Yeshua clapped His hands and said:
“Fly.”
And the birds came to life and flew.
7. The Water of Life
Another child splashed the pools Yeshua had gathered.
Yeshua said:
“May your stream dry up.”
And it did.
His parents corrected Him,
saying:
“Bless, don’t curse.”
Yeshua wept.
He returned to the stream,
and the water flowed again.
8. The Child Who Fell
A child fell from a rooftop and died.
The villagers blamed Yeshua.
He went to the boy,
called him by name,
and said:
“Rise, and tell the truth.”
The boy stood and said:
“He did not harm me.”
Then lay down again in peace.
9. Joseph’s Concern
Joseph said to Mary:
“What shall we do with a child like this?”
Yeshua answered:
“Do not fear.
I came to do the will of the One who sent Me.”
And He returned to silence.
10. The Teacher's Test
A teacher named Zacchaeus was appointed to instruct Him.
He began with Aleph.
Yeshua asked:
“What is the meaning of Aleph?
Before you teach me Bet,
explain the Breath that speaks it.”
The teacher was silent.
Then Yeshua recited the entire alphabet
and revealed the hidden mystery of each letter.
The teacher said:
“This child cannot be taught by men.”
11. The Carpenter’s Helper
Joseph was building a bed.
One beam was too short.
Yeshua laid His hands upon it,
and it stretched to match the other.
Joseph said:
“This child is my blessing and my test.”
12. The Healing of the Injured Child
A boy ran into a wall and fell unconscious.
The villagers again accused Yeshua.
He touched the boy’s head and prayed.
The boy woke and said:
“I fell by my own feet — he did not touch me.”
13. Yeshua Learns Compassion
A boy insulted Him and mocked His wisdom.
Yeshua looked at him,
and the boy was struck mute.
Mary rebuked Him.
Yeshua wept,
then laid His hands on the boy and said:
“Be healed.”
From that day,
He acted only in restoration.
14. The Gathering of the Wise
Teachers and elders came from nearby towns
to test the child.
They asked questions about Torah, the Prophets, and the Breath of God.
Yeshua answered with simplicity and fire.
One said:
“Truly, this is the child Isaiah foresaw.”
15. The Temple at Twelve
At age twelve, Yeshua traveled with His parents to Jerusalem.
After three days,
they found Him in the temple
discussing Torah with the teachers.
Mary said:
“Why did You do this to us?”
He replied:
“Did you not know
I must be in My Father’s house?”
And the child grew
in wisdom,
in stature,
and in favor with God and man.
1. Mary was a consecrated girl, not merely a “virgin”
The Greek word parthenos and the Hebrew almah used in early texts like Isaiah and James
mean “young woman of marital age” or “set apart for sacred service” — not strictly “biologically untouched.”
Mary is referred to as a set-apart young woman, not “virgin,” except when directly quoting tradition.
2. Yeshua was born in a cave, not a stable
Luke says:
“She laid Him in a manger…”
But early sources say cave:
Justin Martyr (c. 155 AD): “He was born in a cave…”
Origen (c. 248 AD): The cave was still shown in Bethlehem in his day
Protoevangelium of James: Cave is the place of birth
