Appendix G — Kingdom of God
Appendix G: The Kingdom of God — Life Breaking In
(For inclusion in The Bible Restored Project)
1. Sacred Principle
The central theme of Jesus’ teaching was the Kingdom of God — not simply personal salvation, not merely an afterlife in heaven, but the breaking-in of God's life, truth, and rule into this world, beginning now and reaching fullness in the age to come.
Over time, the focus of much teaching shifted toward individual escape from earth into heaven, but in the Scriptures, the Kingdom is about God restoring creation, healing relationships, and inviting humanity into a new way of living under His reign.
The Bible Restored project faithfully returns the Kingdom to its rightful place: God’s reign of life, breaking into the present and moving toward the full restoration of all things.
2. The Kingdom of God: Ancient Meaning
Hebrew expectation: God's reign would come to earth, setting all things right.
Jesus' announcement: "The Kingdom of God has come near!" (Mark 1:15)
Early believers: Saw the Kingdom as already beginning but not yet fully completed.
The Kingdom is not:
A place “you go to after you die,”
Nor merely a future political state.
The Kingdom is:
The life-giving reign of God invading human life now,
Transforming individuals, communities, and ultimately the whole world.
3. Characteristics of the Kingdom
It grows like a mustard seed (Matthew 13:31–32) — small but unstoppable.
It works like yeast in dough (Matthew 13:33) — quietly transforming everything.
It belongs to the poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3) — not the powerful and proud.
It is not visible through political power, but recognized by justice, peace, and joy in the Spirit (Romans 14:17).
It advances not by domination, but by healing, truth, mercy, and trust.
4. The "Already and Not Yet" Nature
Jesus inaugurated the Kingdom through His life, death, and resurrection.
The Kingdom is already breaking into the present age, but it will not reach its full expression until His return.
Thus:
The Kingdom is now — wherever people live under God’s life and truth.
The Kingdom is coming — when all creation is finally renewed and made whole.
5. Misunderstandings to Correct
Wrong View
Correction
Kingdom = Heaven after death
Kingdom = God's reign beginning now and culminating in restored creation
Kingdom = Earthly political takeover
Kingdom = Transforming hearts, relationships, and communities through trust and truth
Kingdom is delayed until Jesus returns
Kingdom is already at work, even now
6. Our Role in the Kingdom
Seek first the Kingdom and its righteousness (Matthew 6:33).
Live as ambassadors of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18–20).
Embody Kingdom values: truth, mercy, justice, love.
The Kingdom is built:
One heart at a time,
One act of healing at a time,
One community of trust at a time.
7. Sacred Conclusion
The Gospel of Jesus is not merely about forgiveness of sins — it is the proclamation that God’s reign of life, healing, and justice is breaking into the world.
The Kingdom is here, The Kingdom is growing, The Kingdom will be fulfilled.
Our calling is not to escape the earth, but to join God in renewing it.
