This document lists key biblical passages whose meanings are significantly affected by translation issues, later additions, or theological reinterpretations. It serves as a quick reference for deeper study and restored understanding.

Translation Issues

Genesis 6:1–4 – 'Sons of God' likely refers to spiritual beings, not human lineages.

Psalm 8:5 – 'Lower than God (elohim)', not 'angels'.

Isaiah 7:14 – 'Young woman (almah)', not necessarily 'virgin'.

Exodus 21:22–23 – Distinction between fetus and mother in miscarriage law.

Leviticus 17:7 – 'Goat spirits', not 'devils'.

Deuteronomy 32:17 – 'Spirits/deities', not Christian-style demons.

Psalm 16:10 – 'Sheol', not hell.

Psalm 9:17 – Misuses Sheol as 'hell'.

Psalm 82:1–6 – Divine council, not human judges.

Matthew 16:18 – Hades (realm of dead), not hell.

Luke 16:19–31 – Symbolic parable, not map of afterlife.

Acts 2:27 – Again, Hades misread as hell.

2 Peter 2:4 – 'Tartarus', a distinct angelic prison.

James 2:19 – 'Demons', not 'devils'.

Later Additions

1 John 5:7–8 – Trinitarian clause is a late addition.

Mark 16:9–20 – Not found in earliest manuscripts.

John 7:53–8:11 – Woman caught in adultery added later.

Luke 22:43–44 – Jesus sweating blood added in later manuscripts.

John 5:4 – Angel stirring waters likely added to explain healing.

Genesis 1:26–27 – Humanity is made just under God.

Genesis 2–3 – Fall as relational rupture, not legal guilt.

Genesis 15:6 – Righteousness by trust, not law.

Isaiah 53:5–6 – Suffering servant restores relationship.

Micah 6:6–8 – Mercy over sacrifice.

Matthew 5–7 – Ethics of the kingdom.

Matthew 25:31–46 – Judgment by mercy shown.

Luke 4:18–19 – Kingdom proclamation is here and now.

Angels, Demons, Afterlife

Job 1–2 – Satan as tester, not rebel.

Daniel 7 – Celestial thrones and judgment.

Matthew 5:22 – Gehenna is metaphor, not hell.

Matthew 10:28 – Gehenna = destruction, not torment.

Matthew 13:40–43 – Final fire purifies.

Luke 10:18 – Fall of Satan as collapse of power.

Luke 8:26–39 – Demons distort identity and community.

Revelation 12 – Spiritual war as cosmic metaphor.

Revelation 20 – Fire as ending of death, not torture.
