The Plea for Deliverance

Surely the worm does not thank you,

nor the maggot recount your mercy;

only the living give you thanks.

All who stumble give thanks to you when you make your mercy known to them,

and your righteousness you teach them.

For in your hand is the soul of every living thing;

the breath of all flesh you have given.

Deal with us, O LORD, according to your goodness,

according to your great mercy,

and according to your many righteous acts.

The LORD has listened to the voice of those who love his name,

and has not withheld from them his mercy.

Blessed be the LORD,

who does deeds of righteousness,

crowning his faithful ones with mercy and compassion.

My soul cried out to praise your name,

to give thanks with shouting for your faithful deeds,

to proclaim your faithfulness;

there is no end to your praise.

I was near death for my sins,

and my iniquities had sold me to the grave;

but you saved me, O LORD,

according to your abundant mercy and your many righteous acts.

I, too, have loved your name,

and in your shelter I have taken refuge.

When I remember your might my heart is brave,

and upon your mercies I lean.

Forgive my sin, O LORD,

and cleanse me from my iniquity.

Grant me a spirit of faith and knowledge;

let me not be dishonored in ruin.

Let not Satan rule over me,

nor an unclean spirit;

let neither pain nor evil purpose take hold of my bones.

For you, O LORD, are my praise,

and in you I hope all the day.

Let my brothers rejoice with me,

and the house of my father, who are astonished at your graciousness.

Forever I will rejoice in you.
