War Scroll
For the Instructor: the rule of the war. The first assault of the Sons of Light shall be against the forces of the Sons of Darkness, the army of Belial: Edom, Moab, the sons of Ammon, the Amalekites, Philistia, and the Kittim of Assyria. Those who violate the covenant shall support them. The sons of Levi, Judah, and Benjamin, the exiles of the wilderness, shall fight against all their host when the exiled Sons of Light return from the wilderness of the peoples and encamp in the wilderness of Jerusalem.
After the battle they shall go up from that place, and the king of the Kittim shall enter Egypt. In his time he shall go out in great fury against the kings of the north, intending to destroy the strength of Israel. Then shall come the time of salvation for the people of God and the time of dominion for all who belong to His host, but everlasting destruction for all the forces of Belial. Panic shall seize the sons of Japheth. Assyria shall fall with none to help him, and the dominion of the Kittim shall cease. Wickedness shall be overcome without remnant, and none of the Sons of Darkness shall survive.
Then the Sons of Righteousness shall shine to the ends of the earth until all the appointed seasons of darkness are completed. At the appointed time of God, His majesty shall shine forever, bringing peace and blessing, glory and joy, and length of days to all the Sons of Light.
On the day when the Kittim fall there shall be battle and terrible slaughter before the God of Israel. From ancient times He appointed it as the day of destruction for the Sons of Darkness. On that day the assembly of the heavenly beings and the assembly of men shall meet in conflict. The Sons of Light and the forces of darkness shall fight amid the roar of a great multitude and the cry of heavenly beings and men. It shall be a day of calamity, a time of distress for all the people whom God redeems. No affliction like it shall have been, yet it shall hasten toward everlasting deliverance.
In three lots the Sons of Light shall prevail and strike wickedness. In three lots the army of Belial shall strengthen itself and force the army of light to retreat. When the standards of the infantry cause their hearts to fail, the strength of God shall strengthen the hearts of the Sons of Light. In the seventh lot the great hand of God shall overcome Belial, all the angels of his dominion, and all the men of his forces. They shall be destroyed forever.
[Fragment breaks here]
The chiefs of the clans of the congregation shall be fifty-two. After the Chief Priest and his deputy shall stand twelve chief priests to minister continually before God. Twenty-six chiefs of the priestly courses shall serve in their appointed courses. After them shall stand twelve chiefs of the Levites, one for each tribe. The chiefs of the tribes and the fathers of the congregation shall support them and stand continually at the gates of the sanctuary.
The chiefs of their courses, from fifty years old and upward, shall stand with their appointed officers at festivals, new moons, Sabbaths, and every day of the year. They shall attend the burnt offerings and sacrifices, arrange the fragrant incense according to the will of God, make atonement for all His congregation, and serve continually before Him at the table of glory.
During the year of release these shall be appointed. During the remaining thirty-three years of the war, the men of renown, those summoned from the congregation, and the heads of the clans shall choose men of war from all the lands of the nations. From all the tribes of Israel they shall prepare able men to go out year by year according to the call of war. In the years of release they shall not prepare men for battle, for it is a Sabbath of rest for Israel.
The service of war shall last thirty-five years. For six years the whole congregation shall wage war together; for the remaining twenty-nine years the war shall be conducted by divisions. In the first year they shall fight against Mesopotamia; in the second against the sons of Lud; in the third against the rest of the sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Togar, and Mesha beyond the Euphrates. In the fourth and fifth years they shall fight against the sons of Arpachshad. In the sixth and seventh against all the sons of Assyria, Persia, and the peoples of the east as far as the great wilderness. In the eighth against the sons of Elam; in the ninth against the sons of Ishmael and Keturah. During the next ten years the war shall be divided against all the sons of Ham according to their clans and territories; during the final ten years against all the sons of Japheth according to their territories.

The trumpets shall be appointed for every service: for the divisions numbered by tens of thousands, thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens; for opening the gates of war and sending out the infantry; for directing the slain; for ambush; for pursuit when the enemy turns; and for gathering the army when it returns from battle.
On the trumpets for assembling the congregation they shall write: The Called of God. On the trumpets for assembling the chiefs: The Princes of God. On the trumpets of the formations: The Rule of God. On the trumpets of the men of renown: The Heads of the Clans of the Congregation. When they assemble at the house of meeting they shall write: The Testimonies of God for a Holy Congregation.

On the trumpets of the battle formations: The Divisions of God, to Execute His Wrath upon All the Sons of Darkness.
On the trumpets that summon the infantry when the gates of war are opened they shall write: A Remembrance of Recompense at the Appointed Time of God. On the trumpets of the slain: The Hand of the Might of God in Battle, to Bring Down the Slain because of Unfaithfulness. On the trumpets of ambush: The Mysteries of God, to Wipe Out Wickedness. On the trumpets of pursuit: God Has Struck All the Sons of Darkness; He Shall Not Turn Back His Wrath until They Are Destroyed.
When they return into formation they shall write on the trumpets of retreat: God Has Gathered. On the trumpets for the return from battle to the congregation in Jerusalem they shall write: Rejoicing before God in a Peaceful Return.
On the great standard at the head of all the people they shall write: People of God; and the names Israel and Aaron; and the names of the twelve tribes of Israel in the order of their birth. On the standards of the camps of three tribes they shall write: The Spirit of God, and the names of the three tribes. On the standard of each tribe they shall write: Standard of God, and the name of the leader of that tribe and its clans.
[Fragment breaks here]
On the standard of the thousand they shall write: The Wrath of God Is Unleashed against Belial and All the Men of His Forces without Remnant. On the standard of the hundred: A Hundred of God, the Power of War against Sinful Flesh. On the standard of the fifty: The Standing of the Wicked Is Ended by the Might of God. On the standard of the ten: Songs of Joy to God upon the Ten-Stringed Harp.
When they go out to battle they shall write upon their standards: The Truth of God; The Righteousness of God; The Glory of God; The Justice of God. When they draw near to battle: The Right Hand of God; The Appointed Time of God; The Tumult of God; The Slain of God. When they return: The Exaltation of God; The Greatness of God; The Praise of God; The Glory of God.
On the standards of the congregation they shall write: The Congregation of God; The Camps of God; The Tribes of God; The Clans of God; The Divisions of God; Those Called by God; The Army of God. When they draw near to battle they shall write: The Battle of God; The Recompense of God; The Cause of God; The Vengeance of God; The Power of God; The Retribution of God; The Might of God; The Destruction by God of All the Proud Nations. When they return they shall write: The Deliverance of God; The Victory of God; The Help of God; The Support of God; The Joy of God; The Thanksgivings of God; The Praise of God; The Peace of God.
The standard of the whole congregation shall be fourteen cubits long; that of three tribes, thirteen cubits; that of one tribe, twelve; that of ten thousand, eleven; that of a thousand, ten; that of a hundred, nine; that of fifty, eight; and that of ten, seven cubits.
[Text missing]
On the shield of the leader of the whole people they shall write his name, the names Israel, Levi, and Aaron, the names of the twelve tribes in the order of their birth, and the names of the twelve chiefs of the tribes.
When the army is complete, a forward battle line shall consist of one thousand men. Seven ranks shall stand in order, each man behind his fellow. They shall bear bronze shields polished like mirrors. The shields shall be bound with plaited borders and looped designs of gold, silver, and bronze, with precious stones and multicolored work. Each shield shall be two and a half cubits long and one and a half cubits wide.
They shall hold a spear and a sword. The spear shall be seven cubits long; its socket and blade together shall be half a cubit. Three ornamental bands shall be engraved around the socket, made of gold, silver, and bronze, with precious stones set in the design. The blade shall be shining white iron, and an ear of pure gold shall be inlaid upon it, tapering toward the point.
The swords shall be refined iron, purified in the furnace and polished like mirrors. Ears of pure gold shall be embossed on both sides. The length of the sword shall be one and a half cubits and its width four fingers. The handle shall be made of choice horn, worked with gold, silver, and precious stones.
[Fragment breaks here]
Three divisions of infantry shall advance and stand between the battle lines. The first shall cast seven battle darts into the enemy line. On the first dart they shall write: Flash of a Spear for the Strength of God. On the second: Missiles of Blood, to Fell the Slain by the Wrath of God. On the third: The Blade of the Sword Devours the Slain of Wickedness by the Judgment of God. Each division shall cast seven times and return to its place.
After them two divisions shall go out, one armed with spear and shield, the other with shield and sword, to bring down the slain by the judgment of God, to subdue the enemy line by His power, and to repay the evil of all the proud nations. The kingship shall belong to the God of Israel, and through the holy ones of His people He shall act mightily.
Seven ranks of horsemen shall stand on the right and left of the battle line, seven hundred on each side. Two hundred horsemen shall accompany each thousand infantry. The cavalry of the whole army shall number six thousand, five hundred from each tribe. The horses shall be stallions, swift, responsive, enduring, mature, trained for battle, accustomed to noise and every frightening sight. Their riders shall be able warriors trained in horsemanship, from thirty to forty-five years old; the mounted officers shall be from forty to fifty.
[Line damaged] They shall wear helmets and greaves and carry round shields, lances eight cubits long, bows, arrows, and battle darts, all prepared to shed the blood of the guilty slain. [Fragment breaks here]
The men of the army shall be from forty to fifty years old. The commissioners of the camps shall be from fifty to sixty, and the officers from forty to fifty. Those who strip the slain, gather spoil, cleanse the land, guard the weapons, and prepare provisions shall be from twenty-five to thirty.
No youth or woman shall enter their camps from the time they leave Jerusalem for battle until they return. No one who is crippled, blind, lame, permanently blemished in his flesh, or ritually unclean shall go with them. All shall be volunteers for battle, pure in spirit and flesh, prepared for the day of vengeance. Anyone who is not ritually clean in his flesh on the day of battle shall not go down with them, for holy angels are with their army. The latrine shall be placed about two thousand cubits from the camp, and no shameful nakedness shall be seen around their camps.
When the battle lines face the enemy, seven priests of the sons of Aaron shall go out through the central opening. They shall wear fine white linen: tunics, linen breeches, and sashes of fine twined linen worked with violet, purple, and crimson, with ornamented caps upon their heads. These are garments for battle and shall not be brought into the sanctuary.
One priest shall walk before the whole battle line to strengthen them for battle. The other six shall carry the trumpets of assembly, remembrance, alarm, pursuit, and return. Seven Levites shall go with them carrying seven rams' horns, and three officers from the Levites shall walk before them.
[Fragment breaks here]
The priests shall blow a level signal to arrange the battle order. The columns shall deploy, each man to his place. When three formations are established, the priests shall sound a second, low and sustained signal for the advance until they draw near to the enemy and grasp their weapons. Then the six priests shall sound a sharp, broken note on the trumpets of the slain, and the Levites and all the people shall sound a great alarm on the rams' horns to melt the heart of the enemy.
At the alarm the battle darts shall fly to bring down the slain. The rams' horns shall fall silent, but the priests shall continue the sharp signal until the darts have been cast seven times. Then they shall sound the trumpets of retreat, a low, even, sustained note. According to this rule the three divisions shall act in turn.
When the enemy is defeated and turns back, the priests shall sound the trumpets of assembly. All the infantry shall come out from the front lines: six divisions in addition to the one already fighting, seven lines in all, twenty-eight thousand soldiers and six thousand horsemen. They shall pursue the enemy for complete destruction in the battle of God. The cavalry shall press upon the flanks until the enemy is destroyed.
The priests shall remain at a distance from the slain and shall not enter among them, lest they be defiled by unclean blood. They are holy, and the oil of their priestly anointing shall not be profaned by the blood of the proud nations.
The battle formations shall be altered according to need: a pincer, towers, a curved line, and advancing wings, so that the enemy's heart may fail. The shields of the soldiers in the towers shall be three cubits long and their spears eight cubits. Each tower shall be surrounded on its three forward sides by three hundred shields and shall have three gates. On the shields shall be written the names Michael, Gabriel, Sariel, and Raphael. Michael and Gabriel shall be on the right; Sariel and Raphael on the left.

You commanded us concerning our camps, that no shameful nakedness be seen among us, and You taught us that You are in our midst, a great and awesome God who plunders all our enemies before us. Through Moses You taught us, saying: When you approach battle, the priest shall stand and speak to the people: Hear, O Israel, you are approaching battle against your enemies today. Do not let your heart faint. Do not fear, tremble, or be terrified because of them, for your God goes with you to fight for you against your enemies and to save you.
Our officers shall speak to all who are prepared for battle and willing of heart, strengthening them by the might of God, turning back the fainthearted, and fortifying all the valiant warriors. They shall recall what You spoke through Moses: When war comes in your land against the adversary who attacks you, you shall sound the trumpets, and you shall be remembered before your God and saved from your enemies.
Who is like You, O God of Israel, in heaven or on earth, able to do according to Your great works and Your mighty strength? Who is like Your people Israel, whom You chose from all peoples: the holy people of the covenant, taught in statutes, enlightened in understanding, hearing the glorious voice and seeing the holy angels, their ears opened to deep things?
You created the expanse of the heavens, the host of lights, the service of spirits, the dominion of holy ones, and the treasures of Your glory. You created the earth and divided its regions into wilderness and plain; all its produce and fruits; the circle of the seas; the springs of rivers; the channels of the depths; beasts and winged creatures; the form of humankind and the generations of its seed; the confusion of languages and the division of peoples; the habitations of clans and the inheritance of lands; holy festivals, courses of years, and appointed times of eternity.

Truly the battle is Yours. By the strength of Your hand their corpses have been shattered with none to bury them. You delivered Goliath the Gittite, a mighty warrior, into the hand of David Your servant because he trusted in Your great name and not in sword or spear, for the battle is Yours. By Your holy name he subdued the Philistines many times.
Through our kings You rescued us again and again because of Your mercy, not because of our deeds, for we acted wickedly, nor because of our rebellious works. The battle is Yours and the strength comes from You. Neither our power nor the might of our hands has acted valiantly, but Your power and Your great strength.
You spoke: A star shall come from Jacob, and a scepter shall rise from Israel. He shall crush the forehead of Moab and tear down all the sons of Sheth. One from Jacob shall rule and destroy the remnant of the city. The enemy shall become a possession, and Israel shall act valiantly.
Through Your anointed seers You told us the appointed times of the wars of Your hands, that You might glorify Yourself among our enemies, bringing down the hordes of Belial and the seven proud nations by the hand of the oppressed whom You redeemed with power and vengeance.
You shall do to them as You did to Pharaoh and the officers of his chariots in the Red Sea. You shall kindle the humble in spirit like a torch in a sheaf, consuming the wicked. You shall not turn back until the guilty are destroyed. You foretold the appointed time of Your mighty work against the Kittim: Assyria shall fall by a sword not of man, and a sword not of humankind shall consume him.
Into the hand of the oppressed You shall deliver the enemies of all lands, into the hands of those bowed in the dust, to bring down the mighty of the peoples, to return the recompense of the wicked upon their head, to pronounce the righteous judgment of Your truth over all humankind, and to make an everlasting name for Yourself among the peoples.
[Fragment breaks here]
You have multitudes of holy ones in heaven and hosts of angels in Your exalted dwelling to praise Your name. You established the chosen of the holy people for Yourself as a community. The names of all their host are with You in Your holy dwelling, and the number of the holy ones is in the habitation of Your glory.
You engraved for them mercies of blessing and Your covenant of peace with a stylus of life, to reign over them forever. You appointed the hosts of Your elect by thousands and tens of thousands together with Your holy ones and Your angels, directing them in battle so that the earthly adversaries might be judged by Your decrees. With the elect of heaven they shall prevail.
You, O God, are awesome in the glory of Your dominion, and the company of Your holy ones is among us for everlasting help. We shall pour contempt upon kings and scorn upon mighty men, for the Holy One, the King of Glory, is with us, and a host of angels accompanies our appointed forces. The Hero of War is with our company, and the host of His spirits is with our steps.
Our horsemen are like clouds and mist covering the earth, like a steady downpour shedding judgment upon all its offspring. Rise, O Hero; take Your captives, O Glorious One; seize Your spoil, O Mighty One. Place Your hand upon the neck of Your enemies and Your foot upon the backs of the slain. Crush the nations, Your adversaries, and let Your sword devour guilty flesh.
Fill Your land with glory and Your inheritance with blessing: abundance of cattle in Your fields, silver, gold, and precious stones in Your palaces. Rejoice greatly, O Zion, and shine with joyful songs, O Jerusalem. Rejoice, all cities of Judah. Open your gates forever, that the wealth of the nations may be brought to you and their kings may serve you. Those who oppressed you shall bow before you and lick the dust of your feet. Daughters of my people, cry aloud with joy and adorn yourselves with ornaments of glory. [Text missing] Israel shall reign forever.
Then the Chief Priest, his brother priests, the Levites, and all the elders of the army shall bless the God of Israel and all His works of truth. They shall curse Belial and all the spirits of his lot.
Blessed is the God of Israel for all His holy purpose and His works of truth. Blessed are all who serve Him in righteousness and know Him by faith. Cursed is Belial for his hostile purpose, and accursed is he for his guilty dominion. Cursed are all the spirits of his lot for their wicked purpose, and accursed for all their defiled service. Their lot is darkness, but the lot of God is everlasting light.
You are the God of our fathers. We bless Your name forever, for we are an everlasting people. You made a covenant with our fathers and shall establish it for their seed throughout the ages. In all the testimonies of Your glory You remembered Your kindness among us, helping the remnant and the survivors for the sake of Your covenant, recounting Your works of truth and the judgments of Your wondrous might.
You created us for Yourself as an everlasting people and cast us into the lot of light according to Your truth. You appointed the Prince of Light from ancient times to help us; in his lot are all the sons of righteousness, and all spirits of truth are under his dominion. You made Belial for the pit, an angel of hostility. His dominion is darkness, and his counsel is to condemn and convict. All the spirits of his lot, the angels of destruction, walk according to the rule of darkness, for this is their desire.
But we, in the lot of Your truth, rejoice in Your mighty hand. We rejoice in Your salvation and delight in Your help and peace. Who is like You in strength, O God of Israel, whose mighty hand is with the oppressed? What angel or prince is like You in effective help? From ancient times You appointed for Yourself a day of great battle, to support truth and destroy iniquity, to bring darkness low and strengthen light, to establish righteousness forever, destroy all the Sons of Darkness, and bring joy to all the Sons of Light.
[Fragment breaks here]
After they withdraw from the slain and enter the camp, all shall sing the hymn of return. In the morning they shall wash their garments, cleanse themselves from the blood of sinful bodies, and return to the place where they had stood before the enemy fell. There they shall bless the God of Israel and joyfully exalt His name together.
Blessed is the God of Israel, who keeps steadfast love for His covenant and appoints times of salvation for the people He redeems. He has called those who stumble to wondrous deeds and gathered a multitude of nations for destruction without remnant. He has raised in judgment the fainthearted, opened the mouth of the mute to sing His mighty deeds, taught weak hands to fight, strengthened trembling knees to stand, and made firm those struck from hip to shoulder.
By the poor in spirit all the proud nations shall come to an end, and no place shall remain for their mighty men. But we are the remnant of Your people. Blessed is Your name, O God of steadfast love, who kept the covenant with our fathers. Through all our generations You made Your mercies wondrous for the remnant during the dominion of Belial. Through all the mysteries of his hatred they did not lead us astray from Your covenant.
You drove his spirits of destruction away from us. When the men of his dominion condemned themselves, You preserved the lives of Your redeemed. You raised the fallen by Your strength and cut down the lofty to humble them. There is no rescuer for their mighty men and no refuge for their swift. You shall return shame upon their honored men, and all their empty existence shall become nothing.
But we, Your holy people, shall praise Your name for Your works of truth. Because of Your mighty deeds we shall exalt Your splendor throughout the appointed times of eternity: at the beginning of day, at night, at dawn, and at evening. Great is Your glorious purpose, and wondrous are Your mysteries in the heights, raising the lowly from the dust and humbling the exalted among the heavenly beings.
Rise, rise, O God of gods, and lift Yourself in power, O King of kings. Let all the Sons of Darkness scatter before You. Let the light of Your majesty shine forever upon heavenly beings and men, like fire burning in the dark places of destruction. Let it burn among the condemned in Sheol, an everlasting burning among the transgressors through all the appointed times of eternity.
[Fragment breaks here]
It is a time of distress for Israel, an appointed time of battle against all nations. The purpose of God is everlasting redemption, but destruction for all nations of wickedness. All who are prepared for battle shall go out and camp opposite the king of the Kittim and all the forces of Belial assembled with him for the day of vengeance by the sword of God.
Then the Chief Priest shall stand with his brother priests, the Levites, and all the men of the army. He shall read aloud the prayer for the appointed time of battle, as written in the Rule of His Time, with all the words of thanksgiving. The battle lines shall be arranged according to the Book of the War.
The priest appointed for the time of vengeance shall go about and strengthen them for battle, saying: Be strong and courageous as warriors. Do not fear or lose heart. Do not panic or be alarmed because of them. Do not turn back or flee from them, for they are a wicked congregation and all their deeds are darkness. Falsehood is their desire; they have made a lie their refuge. Their strength is like smoke that vanishes, and their vast multitude is like chaff blown away. Every creature of greed shall wither quickly like a flower at harvest.
Strengthen yourselves for the battle of God. This day is the appointed time of God's battle against all nations and of judgment upon all flesh. The God of Israel raises His hand in wondrous strength against all the spirits of wickedness. The mighty of the heavenly beings gird themselves for battle, and the formations of the holy ones prepare for the day of vengeance. [Text missing] The God of Israel shall remove Belial into his pit. [Text missing]
The God of Israel has drawn a sword against all nations, and through the holy ones of His people He shall act mightily.
They shall carry out this rule on that day before the camps of the Kittim. The priests shall sound the trumpets of remembrance. The gates of war shall open, and the infantry shall go out and stand in columns between the battle lines. The priests shall sound the signal for formation until every man has taken his place. Then they shall sound a second signal for confrontation.
When they are near the line of the Kittim, within throwing range, every man shall raise his weapon. The six priests shall sound the trumpets of the slain in a sharp, broken note to direct the battle. The Levites and all the people shall sound a loud battle alarm on the rams' horns. As the sound goes out, the infantry shall begin to bring down the slain of the Kittim. The people shall cease the alarm, but the priests shall continue sounding the trumpets of the slain, and the battle shall prevail against the Kittim.
When Belial prepares to help the Sons of Darkness and the slain among the infantry begin to fall through the mysteries of God, testing all those appointed for battle, the priests shall sound the trumpets of assembly. Another battle line shall go out as a reserve and take its position between the lines. The signal of return shall be sounded for those fighting. Then the Chief Priest shall approach the battle line and strengthen their heart by the wondrous might of God and fortify their hands for His battle.
He shall say: Blessed is God, for He tests the heart of His people in the furnace. [Line damaged] You have obeyed the mysteries of God from ancient times. Take courage and stand in the breach. Do not fear when God strengthens you. [Text missing]
Remember the judgment of Nadab and Abihu, sons of Aaron, through whose judgment God showed Himself holy before all the people. But Eleazar and Ithamar He preserved for Himself in an everlasting covenant of priesthood.
Take courage and do not fear them, for their end is emptiness and their desire is vanity. Their support has no strength. They do not know that from the God of Israel comes all that is and all that shall be. Today is His appointed time to subdue and humiliate the prince of the dominion of wickedness.
He shall send everlasting help to the company of His redeemed through the power of the majestic angel Michael. With everlasting light He shall illuminate the covenant of Israel with peace and blessing for the lot of God, exalting the authority of Michael among the heavenly beings and the dominion of Israel among all flesh. Righteousness shall rejoice on high, and all the sons of His truth shall rejoice in everlasting knowledge.
Sons of His covenant, take courage in the furnace of God until He waves His hand and completes His fiery trials, revealing His mysteries concerning your existence.
After these words the priests shall sound the signal for arranging the divisions. The columns shall deploy until every man has taken his position. They shall sound another signal for confrontation. When the infantry approaches the line of the Kittim within throwing range, every man shall raise his weapon. The priests shall sound the trumpets of the slain, and the Levites and all the people shall sound the battle alarm. The infantry shall attack the army of the Kittim. When the signal sounds they shall begin to bring down their slain. The people shall cease sounding, but the priests shall continue on the trumpets of the slain, and the battle shall prevail against the Kittim and the forces of Belial shall be defeated.
[The third engagement is damaged.]
[The fourth, fifth, and sixth engagements are missing.]
In the seventh lot, when the great hand of God is lifted against Belial and all the forces of his dominion for everlasting slaughter, the holy ones shall shout as they pursue Assyria. Then the sons of Japheth shall fall and never rise again, and the Kittim shall be crushed without remnant or survivor. The God of Israel shall raise His hand against the whole multitude of Belial.
The priests shall sound the six trumpets of remembrance, and all the battle formations shall gather and divide against all the camps of the Kittim to destroy them completely. When the sun hastens to set, the Chief Priest, the priests and Levites with him, the chiefs of the battle lines, and the men of the army shall bless the God of Israel.
Blessed is Your name, O God of gods, for You have done wonders for Your people and kept Your covenant with us from ancient times. Many times You opened the gates of salvation for us for the sake of Your covenant and provided for our affliction according to Your goodness. O God of righteousness, You have acted for the sake of Your name.
You have done wonder upon wonder with us, unlike anything from ancient times, for You have known our appointed time. Today Your power has shone for us, and You have shown the hand of Your mercies in everlasting redemption, removing the dominion of the enemy so that it shall be no more.
In battle You showed Yourself strong against our enemies in complete slaughter. Now the day presses upon us to pursue their multitude. You have broken the heart of warriors so that none can stand. The might is Yours, the battle is in Your hand, and there is no God like You. [Text missing]
For our Majestic One is holy. The King of Glory is with us, and the host of His spirits accompanies our steps. Our horsemen are like clouds and mist covering the earth, like a steady downpour shedding judgment upon all its offspring.
Rise, O Hero. Take Your captives, O Glorious One, and seize Your spoil, O Mighty One. Place Your hand upon the neck of Your enemies and Your foot upon the backs of the slain. Crush the nations, Your adversaries, and let Your sword devour flesh. Fill Your land with glory and Your inheritance with blessing. Let there be abundance of cattle in Your fields and silver and gold in Your palaces.
Rejoice greatly, O Zion; rejoice, all cities of Judah. Open your gates forever, that the wealth of the nations may be brought to you and their kings may serve you. All who oppressed you shall bow before you and lick the dust of your feet. Daughters of my people, cry aloud with joy. Adorn yourselves with ornaments of glory and rule over the kingdom. [Text missing] Israel shall have everlasting dominion.
They shall gather in the camp that night and rest until morning. In the morning they shall come to the place of the battle line where the mighty men of the Kittim fell, with the multitude of Assyria and the forces of all the nations assembled with them, to see the multitude slain by the sword of God with none to bury them.
The Chief Priest shall approach with his deputy, his brother priests, the Levites, the leader of the battle, the chiefs of the battle lines, and their officers. When they stand before the slain of the Kittim, they shall praise the God of Israel.
[The conclusion is missing.]
