The Beatitudes

[A series of blessings upon the one who attains wisdom; preserved in fragments.]

Blessed is the one who speaks truth with a pure heart,

and does not slander with his tongue.

Blessed are those who hold fast to her statutes,

and do not hold fast to the ways of iniquity.

Blessed are those who rejoice in her,

and do not pour themselves out in the ways of folly.

Blessed is the one who seeks her with clean hands,

and does not pursue her with a deceitful heart.

Blessed is the man who has attained wisdom,

and walks in the law of the Most High.

She steadies his heart upon her ways, and he endures under her discipline, and is content always with her chastening; he does not forsake her in the distress of his trials, nor abandon her in the day of dread; for she will become for him an everlasting glory. [Text missing]
