Philo the Epic Poet — Fragments

[Fragments of an epic poem on Jerusalem and the patriarchs, in obscure and elevated Greek; preserved in quotation, and difficult.]

He sang of Abraham, the man of renown, to whom God gave the promise of a numberless seed; and of the binding of his son upon the mountain, and the deliverance. [Meaning uncertain]

He sang of Jerusalem, the city of the great King, and of its springs and its waters running underground, and of the temple set on the height, the glory of the land. [Text missing]

[Fragment breaks here; the poem is preserved only in scattered and difficult lines.]
