Theodotus — Fragments
[Fragments of an epic poem on Shechem and the sons of Jacob, preserved in quotation.]
He sang of the city of Shechem, set in a rich land of springs and pasture, founded by Sikimios son of Hermes; and of the well that Jacob dug there, and the field he bought. [Text missing]
And he told the story of Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and how the prince of the city took her; and how her brothers Simeon and Levi, in anger for their sister, fell upon the city and avenged the wrong. He held that the deed was permitted them, for God had appointed Shechem to the sons of Jacob. [Line damaged]
