Lamentation Prayer Fragments

[Laments over the desolation of Jerusalem, in the manner of the book of Lamentations; preserved in fragments.]

How she sits desolate, the city that was full of people! The princess among the provinces has become a widow; she who was great among the nations weeps in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks. [Text missing]

Her sanctuary is laid waste,

her feasts are forgotten;

her priests groan,

her young women are grieved,

and she herself is in bitterness.

Her children went into captivity before the foe; the ways of Zion mourn, for none come to the appointed feasts. [Line damaged] Look, O Lord, and see, for we have become a reproach. Yet your mercies do not fail; remember your city, and the people called by your name. [Text missing]
