The Self-Glorification Hymn
The Self-Glorification Hymn
[A hymn spoken in the voice of one exalted among the heavenly council; preserved in fragments.]
Who is like me among the gods?
Who can compare with my glory?
Who bears all sorrows as I do,
and who is like me in enduring evil?
There is no teaching that compares with my teaching.
I take my seat in heaven,
and none can stand against me.
I am reckoned among the gods,
and my dwelling is in the holy council.
For God has set me among the perfect, and given me a throne of strength in the council of the gods; none of the kings of old shall sit in it, nor shall their nobles be compared to me. [Line damaged] My glory is beyond compare, and apart from me none is exalted. Who has measured the flow of my lips, and who can endure the speech of my tongue? [Text missing]
Sing praises, you faithful ones, in the holy dwelling; tell of his greatness in the joy of the everlasting, for he has lifted up the lowly out of the dust to the eternal height. [Meaning uncertain]
