Songs of the Sage
The Songs of the Sage
[Songs of the Instructor, to declare the glory of God and to guard against the spirits of harm; preserved in fragments.]
For the Instructor: a song to give praise, to glorify and to exalt the God of knowledge, the fountain of holiness. [Text missing]
And I, the Instructor, declare the splendor of his beauty, to frighten and to terrify all the spirits of the destroying angels, the bastard spirits, the demons, Lilith, the howlers and the desert dwellers — those who fall upon men suddenly to lead the spirit of understanding astray, and to lay waste their hearts in the age of the rule of wickedness, in the appointed times of the humbling of the sons of light.
Blessed are you, O God of gods,
in the brightness of your majesty;
the spirits of holiness wait upon you,
and the snares of the pit flee before your face.
Not for everlasting destruction,
but for the season of the humbling of transgression,
do these have power;
and they shall not rule the sons of light.
And I spread the fear of God in the ages of my generations, to exalt the name [Line damaged], and to terrify by his might all the spirits of the bastards, that they not corrupt the sons of light. [Text missing]
