Pseudo-Eupolemus — Fragments

[Fragments joining the story of Abraham to the lore of Babylon and Egypt, preserved in quotation.]

Abraham was born in the tenth generation after the flood, in the Babylonian city of Ur; he surpassed all in nobility and wisdom, and he discovered the science of the stars and the order of the heavens, and was pleasing to God for his zeal. [Text missing]

He went, by the command of God, into Phoenicia, and taught the Phoenicians the courses of the sun and moon and the rest; and the king received him with honor. Afterward he went down into Egypt because of a famine, and there too he taught the priests the science of the stars; for the Egyptians say they received this knowledge from him, though some trace it to Enoch, who first discovered it.
