Jewish Amulets and Protective Inscriptions
[Archive witness: an ancient protective or ritual text, preserved as historical evidence — not doctrine, and not for practice.]
Thin sheets of silver, gold, or bronze, inscribed and worn for protection, and inscriptions set on doorways and graves. Representative wording:
“An amulet to guard so-and-so from all harm: in the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, who dwells among the cherubim. Let no evil touch the bearer; let the LORD keep his going out and his coming in. [Text missing]”
“May the LORD bless you and keep you. May the LORD watch over this house, and over those who dwell in it, from this time forth and forevermore.”
