Christian Magical Papyri

[Archive witness: an ancient protective or ritual text, preserved as historical evidence — not doctrine, and not for practice.]

Fragments of Christian protective texts on papyrus, using the names of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the cross, and the openings of the gospels. Representative lines:

“In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The beginning of the gospel of Jesus the Anointed. [Line damaged] Guard the body and soul of your servant from every evil.”

“Christ was born; Christ was crucified; Christ rose. Lord, drive away the fever and the chill from the one who wears this, by your holy name. Amen.”
