The Apocryphon of Jeremiah

[Words attributed to Jeremiah to the exiles, and a survey of the appointed periods; preserved in fragments.]

The word that Jeremiah spoke to those who were going into captivity, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon carried away: Keep the commandments of the LORD, and do not follow the idols of the nations among whom you are taken; for the LORD has not forsaken you, and at the appointed time he will visit you and bring you back. [Text missing]

And the LORD made known the number of the years and the periods, how the land would lie desolate its sabbaths, and how afterward the people would return; but again they would forsake the covenant and walk in the stubbornness of their hearts, and the spirit of Mastema would be sent against them to lead them astray, until the time of the end appointed for wickedness. [Line damaged]

And in those days the children of Israel will cry out because of the heavy yoke upon them in the lands of their captivity, and there will be no one to save; for they forsook my covenant and despised my word. Yet for the sake of the fathers I will remember them. [Text missing]
