The Isaiah Pesharim

[Interpretations of the prophet Isaiah, applied to the last days and to the awaited deliverer; preserved in several broken copies.]

“There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots; and the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, of counsel and might.” The interpretation concerns the Branch of David, who will arise at the end of days to save his people and to destroy the enemies. God will uphold him with a spirit of might, and give him a throne of glory and a holy crown; he will rule over all the nations, and his sword will judge all the peoples. [Line damaged]

“He shall not judge by what his eyes see, nor decide by what his ears hear.” The interpretation is that the priests will instruct him, and as they teach him so he will judge; at his word one of the priests of renown will go out, with garments [Text missing].

“When the Assyrian comes into our land and treads our soil.” The interpretation concerns the war of the last days, the going up of the Kittim [Line damaged], and their fall, when the LORD breaks the yoke of the oppressor from off his people.
