Epistle of Barnabas

The Epistle of Barnabas in one full flowing message, as it would have been read aloud to early communities — in a single sacred sitting, full of fire, clarity, and covenantal truth.

The structure of the original is a spiritual exhortation: part letter, part sermon, part prophetic insight. I have restored the voice of the author with sacred clarity, without embellishment or distortion — only lifting his meaning into modern understanding while remaining faithful to the original scroll.

Greetings, children and disciples of the Living God —

called in grace, chosen by the Anointed One,

set apart not by flesh, but by Spirit.

I write to encourage you with knowledge and understanding,

not as a master, but as a brother —

as one who shares your hope and trembling.

For the days are evil,

and the enemy stirs confusion.

But the Light has risen in you,

and the time to understand has come.

The Father made all things known from the beginning.

He did not wait until the end to speak truth,

but prepared it in shadow

so that when the Light appeared,

we would recognize it.

The covenant was not given to be kept in ritual,

but to train the heart in trust.

Circumcision was never about the flesh —

it pointed to the cutting of the heart,

the removal of pride,

and the sealing of the inner person.

Those who believe in the Anointed

have the true circumcision —

not made with hands,

but with the Breath of the Holy One.

Everything written in the scrolls

was written for Him —

for the One who would suffer,

who would be rejected,

and who would rise on the third day.

He is the Son of God,

not born of human desire,

but sent from heaven,

to call the righteous and the wandering alike.

The scapegoat, the lamb, the serpent lifted up —

they were all signs of Him.

The prophets did not know fully what they spoke,

but the Breath of God led them to reveal

what would later be made plain.

The Anointed One came not to abolish

but to fulfill —

to bring the shadow into light.

Do not think the Sabbath means resting one day

and working six.

That was a sign — not the goal.

The true Sabbath is the seventh day of creation restored —

the day when all things are made new,

when death is undone,

when the righteous are raised.

The temple, too, was a shadow.

It is not built with hands,

nor is it found in a city of stone.

You are the temple of God,

and the Breath of the Holy One dwells in you.

The sacrifices were pictures

— animals without blemish,

blood poured on altars —

but the true sacrifice is trust,

and the offering is love.

There are two ways laid before you:

the way of light,

and the way of darkness.

The way of light is this:

Love the One who made you.

Love your neighbor as yourself.

Do not exalt yourself.

Share what you have.

Bless those who curse.

Be gentle, patient, and faithful.

Do not divide, but heal.

Do not grumble.

Speak truth from the heart.

Forgive as you have been forgiven.

Teach those who do not know.

Honor those who labor in goodness.

This is the way of life —

and those who walk in it will never stumble.

The way of darkness is this:

Selfishness, greed, arrogance.

Hypocrisy, betrayal, lust.

Worship of false gods and trust in wealth.

Murder, jealousy, pride.

Forgetting the poor and despising the humble.

Ignoring the voice of the Breath.

Let every soul choose carefully —

for the days grow short.

Brothers and sisters,

do not sleep as others do.

Be awakened in spirit.

The enemy sows distraction,

pride, and confusion.

He wants to turn hearts from the simplicity of trust.

But you have not come to darkness —

you have come to the Light.

You are children of the promise,

not of the flesh

but of the Breath.

Walk worthy of the calling you have received.

Let the name of the Anointed

be honored in your lives —

not only in word,

but in truth.

Understand, then,

that God’s promise is not far off.

The scroll is opened,

the mysteries revealed.

Let no one return to the shadows

when the day has already dawned.

Let your heart be strong.

Encourage one another.

Remain in the teaching that brings life.

I write these things to you

not as one who knows all,

but as one who seeks truth beside you —

a servant of the Anointed,

hoping in mercy,

clinging to grace.

Peace be with you

in the Light of the Living One.
