Sirach - Ecclesiasticus

All wisdom comes from YHWH,

and with Him it remains forever.

Who can count the grains of sand in the sea,

or the drops of rain,

or the days of eternity?

Who can measure heaven’s height,

earth’s breadth,

or the depth of wisdom?

Wisdom was created before all things,

and the understanding of insight is from eternity.

The root of wisdom is awe and trust in YHWH,

and her branches are long life.

To whom has the source of wisdom been revealed?

And who has truly known her great depth?

There is One who is all-wise and awe-inspiring—

YHWH Himself.

He created her,

saw her,

measured her,

and poured her out on all His creation.

He gave her to those who love Him.

The awe of YHWH is glory and honor,

joy and a crown of rejoicing.

The awe of YHWH delights the heart,

gives gladness and long life.

Whoever trusts in YHWH will be safe,

and his house will be blessed for generations.

To fear YHWH is the fullness of wisdom—

it fills a person with peace and abundance.

Wisdom raises up those who embrace her,

and gives honor to those who hold her close.

The root of wisdom is to trust YHWH,

and her branches are a tree of life.

If you desire wisdom, keep the commandments,

and YHWH will give her to you freely.

For the awe of YHWH is wisdom and instruction,

and what pleases Him is trust and humility.

Do not resist the reverent fear of the Most High—

it will lead you to wisdom.

The awe of YHWH is a fire that refines,

a cloud that covers,

a light that guides.

The wise will guard it like treasure,

and sinners will reject it in pride.

Be not double-hearted in your trust,

nor dishonest with your words.

Do not exalt yourself or fall into hypocrisy—

for the awe of YHWH exposes the heart.

Those without trust will be unrooted in their time,

and their houses will collapse in judgment.

Patient endurance is the fruit of awe.

Those who cling to YHWH will not be forsaken.

Do not be impatient or reckless—

for YHWH sees the heart and repays each one in due time.

———

My child, if you choose to serve YHWH,

prepare your soul for testing.

Set your heart straight,

and be steadfast.

Do not panic when trouble comes.

Cling to Him, and do not let go,

so that you may be honored at the end.

Whatever happens to you—accept it.

In times of humiliation, be patient.

For gold is refined in the furnace,

and those who trust in YHWH

are refined in the fire of affliction.

Trust Him, and He will help you.

Walk uprightly, and hope in Him.

You who revere YHWH—wait for His mercy.

Do not drift away, or you will fall.

You who trust in Him—hold to your path.

Do not grow weary, for your reward will come.

You who honor Him—hope for good things:

everlasting joy and compassion.

Consider the generations of old:

Has anyone ever trusted in YHWH and been forsaken?

Has anyone remained faithful to Him and been left unhelped?

Has anyone called upon Him and been ignored?

For YHWH is compassionate and merciful.

He forgives sin and saves in time of distress.

Woe to the fainthearted and the doubters,

for they will not be sheltered.

Woe to the double-minded and those without trust,

for they will not be protected.

Woe to you who have lost your resolve!

What will you do when YHWH comes to set things right?

Those who revere YHWH will not disobey His words.

Those who love Him will walk in His ways.

Those who honor YHWH will seek what pleases Him.

Those who trust Him will be filled with His light.

Do not boast of your own strength

or make excuses when you fall.

Do not be reckless in times of ease

or lose heart in seasons of trial.

Trust Him always, and your path will be made straight.

Hope in Him, and you will never be put to shame.

You who revere YHWH—

wait with courage and joy.

For His mercy is near,

and His judgment is just.

———

Children, listen to the wisdom of your father;

honor him, that you may flourish.

For YHWH honors a parent through their children,

and confirms a mother’s authority through her offspring.

Whoever honors their father atones for sins,

and storing up treasure brings joy and blessing.

Whoever respects their mother

is like one who lays up treasure before YHWH.

Whoever honors father and mother

will be gladdened by their own children,

and in the day of trouble, they will be remembered.

A life rooted in this honor

will be extended in peace.

Do not dismiss your father, even if his mind fails.

Support him with kindness and patience.

Compassion shown to a parent

is like an offering upon the altar.

Your forgiveness will be remembered—

it will rise like incense before the Most High.

In your time of distress, it will shelter you.

In your day of trouble, it will speak for you.

Children, act with humility,

and you will be loved more than those who give great gifts.

The greater you become,

the more you must humble yourself;

then you will find favor before YHWH.

Many are lofty in their own eyes—

but the Set-Apart One reveals His glory to the lowly.

What is too great for you—do not seek.

What is beyond your strength—do not search.

Do not be proud in what has been revealed to you,

for more has been shown than you can understand.

A stubborn heart will come to ruin.

A prideful soul will be broken like brittle clay.

An ear that listens to correction

will dwell among the wise.

A hard heart will be weighed down with sorrow,

and a sinful person adds sin upon sin.

When disaster comes, the arrogant will fall,

but the humble find shelter in mercy.

The heart of the wise reflects on truth.

Their words flow with calm understanding.

Those who trust in YHWH will walk in His light.

Their steps will not falter.

Do not rely on your strength when you fall.

Do not delay to return to YHWH.

Do not hide your mistakes with excuses—

for YHWH is patient and full of mercy.

Yet do not presume upon His forgiveness—

do not pile sin upon sin thinking He will overlook it.

Mercy is not a license for pride.

The day of judgment comes like fire.

Do not trade friendship for gain.

Do not betray a friend for silver.

Do not let greed lead your heart,

for it will tear your soul in two.

Those who trust in possessions will fall.

But those who trust in YHWH

will never be put to shame.

———

Do not withhold help from the poor,

or delay your kindness to the hungry.

Do not turn your face from the needy,

or let the eyes of the broken plead in vain.

Do not grieve the desperate,

or ignore the cry of the afflicted.

Do not let the one who begs go away in shame—

share what you have with compassion.

Let your heart not be hardened when you give,

and do not turn your back on the powerless.

When someone is in pain—be present.

When someone is poor—offer your hand.

Lose your silver, if you must, for a friend.

Let it not rust away unused when it could bring peace.

Do not reject the one in mourning.

Share in their sorrow as if it were your own.

Do not delay to visit the sick—

for in love you will find life and blessing.

Let your words be wise and true.

Do not exalt yourself in every conversation.

Speak only when the moment calls,

and say only what is needed.

A fool is quick to speak but slow to learn.

A wise person listens before they answer.

Do not interrupt the wise,

and do not show off when others are speaking.

Do not contend with someone stronger than you,

and do not belittle the lowly in public.

Do not let your hand be quick to strike

or your heart quick to anger.

Do not make a habit of judging others,

lest you be judged without mercy.

Do not seek power over others,

or chase positions of greatness.

Do not be afraid to speak truth,

even when it costs you.

For silence in the face of injustice

is itself an injustice.

Do not hide your wisdom out of fear.

For your words may be the rescue of the oppressed.

Let your voice be a refuge for the wounded

and your courage a shelter in the storm.

Seek wisdom with all your strength.

She will test you—yes, but she will never abandon you.

She will walk beside you in hardship,

and reveal herself only to the sincere.

At first she will challenge your desires,

place fear in your heart,

and discipline your thoughts.

She will press you with her burden

until she knows your soul is worthy.

But then—she will return with joy,

reveal her secrets,

and lift your head in honor.

Do not betray her, or she will expose your folly.

Do not trade her for ease, or she will vanish.

Wisdom belongs to those who endure.

———

Do not rely on your wealth,

or say, “I have all I need.”

Do not trust in your strength or success,

or say, “Who can stop me now?”

Do not say, “I have sinned, and nothing happened,”

for YHWH is patient—but not blind.

Do not think forgiveness means permission.

Do not store up wrongs with the plan to repent later.

Do not say, “There is still time,”

or “I will return tomorrow,”

for His mercy is great,

but the day of reckoning may come suddenly.

Do not trade your integrity for silver,

or your calling for comfort.

Do not chase every desire,

for your heart will soon rule over you.

Do not follow your instincts like a wild beast—

discipline your steps and examine your motives.

Do not say whatever you wish,

or make promises you cannot keep.

Do not speak recklessly,

or boast about what you will do.

For YHWH is the judge of all,

and every word has weight in His presence.

Do not seek favor through flattery.

Do not lie to escape difficulty.

Even a single deceitful word

can unravel your reputation.

Do not be proud in your speech,

or arrogant in your answers.

Let your “yes” be true,

and your “no” be humble.

In the day of trouble,

riches will not rescue you.

But righteousness will speak for you

and mercy will remember your name.

———

Do not let your name be tied to foolishness,

nor your life to reckless speech.

Like a wild animal that bites without cause,

so is a person whose tongue wounds friends.

You will lose your reputation

and never be trusted again.

A slip of the tongue is worse than a fall—

but those who trust in YHWH will find mercy and healing.

Do not be quick to make a friend,

and do not trust someone too easily.

There are friends only for the moment,

and companions who vanish in hardship.

There are those who share your table

but disappear when trials come.

When you prosper, they praise you;

when you suffer, they hide.

If disaster strikes you, they turn away.

If trouble surrounds you, they abandon you.

But a true friend is a strong shelter—

whoever finds one has found a treasure.

A faithful friend is beyond price,

and their worth is without measure.

A true friend is life-saving medicine,

and those who revere YHWH will find such a friend.

Those who walk in awe and trust

will be guided to faithful companions,

for their hearts are aligned with love and truth.

My child, learn from wisdom from your youth—

and you will grow into her as your bride.

Place her on your shoulders like a yoke,

and do not grow weary under her training.

She will test you at first with discipline,

and place her weight on your shoulders.

She will confront your desires,

until you trust her with your soul.

Then she will reveal her secrets to you,

and bring you joy beyond words.

But if you abandon her,

your pursuit will have been in vain.

Wisdom is like a mother—gentle yet firm,

and like a trusted guide—clear and unwavering.

Wisdom is not found in a proud heart,

or in mouths full of deceit.

The arrogant will not grasp her,

and the impatient will not remain with her.

Speak rarely but with intention.

Be slow to answer, and quick to listen.

If you know something, speak with confidence.

If not, admit it honestly.

A foolish person’s words overflow like water.

A wise person waits for the right time to speak.

A person’s reputation rises by their words—

but it can fall by their tongue.

Do not boast in what you do not know.

Do not seek honor through deception.

Let your heart be pure,

and your speech full of peace.

Then your wisdom will be visible to all.

To gain wisdom is not to master facts—

It is to master your heart, your words, and your walk.

———

Do not do evil, and evil will not overtake you.

Stay far from injustice, and it will not return to your house.

Do not plant in the soil of sin,

for you will reap a bitter harvest.

Do not say, “He will forgive me no matter what,”

and pile up wrongs without repentance.

Do not be careless with your soul—

His mercy is not permission to stray.

Do not delay to return to YHWH,

and do not put off turning back from your heart.

For His breath of justice may come suddenly,

and at that hour, your plans will mean nothing.

Do not trust in unjust wealth—

for it will not last on the day of reckoning.

Do not seek power by oppressing others,

or fame by shaming the humble.

Do not make yourself a judge if you lack wisdom,

or show partiality when truth is at stake.

Do not sin twice to cover one offense.

The cure is truth, not hiding.

Do not be ashamed to repent,

and do not withhold confession when it brings healing.

Do not withhold kindness from the poor,

or turn your face from the one who mourns.

Do not ignore the hungry,

or turn away from those in pain.

Do not laugh when someone is heartbroken,

or mock the suffering of the soul.

Do not avoid those who cry out,

for their voice reaches YHWH.

Love those who love you.

Show respect to the elders.

Honor those who teach you wisdom.

Let the poor be as welcome at your table

as the wealthy.

Give with an open hand—

and you will be repaid with peace.

Do not seek to gain at the expense of another’s grief.

Do not rejoice over another’s fall.

Be faithful in your friendships,

and cautious in your promises.

Let your words bring peace,

and your dealings be just.

Do not take a wife because of her beauty alone,

and do not trust in charm above character.

Do not dishonor your own soul

by lust or false praise.

Do not dishonor your wife,

or treat your servant with cruelty.

Let the one who serves you rest with dignity.

Their life is as precious as yours.

Do not be harsh with those who work for you—

for their trust is part of your righteousness.

Love YHWH with your whole being.

Stand in awe of Him with all your strength.

Do not neglect the care of your children,

and teach them the ways of peace.

Set a good path for your household,

and your name will be honored in generations to come.

Do not boast in tomorrow,

for you do not know what today may bring.

It reminds us that wisdom is a daily walk—

not with loud victories, but with quiet faithfulness.

The way of awe and trust in YHWH

is built not on perfect choices,

but on humble return, just action, and open hands.

———

Do not challenge someone more powerful than you—

you may fall into their hands.

Do not quarrel with the wealthy—

lest your reputation be weighed against gold.

Do not argue with those who speak easily of harm—

for fire kindles from a spark,

and the proud are quick to inflame.

Do not mock the broken-hearted—

their story is known by YHWH.

Do not dismiss the wisdom of the elders,

for they have seen many seasons.

Learn from their words,

and you will gain insight in time.

Do not despise the story of your ancestors,

for they built the path you now walk.

Their words are not dust—

they are the roots of understanding.

Do not boast in your strength

when facing one who is angry.

Do not walk with the reckless—

you may become like them.

Do not fight with the quick-tempered,

or travel with the arrogant.

Do not share secrets with the foolish,

for they will not keep them.

Do not speak openly with strangers,

for not all who listen are loyal.

Do not insult the humble,

or laugh at the poor.

For YHWH sees all hearts,

and defends the dignity of the lowly.

Do not betray a friend for gain,

or forget a companion in times of ease.

A true bond is not made of convenience,

but of trust sealed in trials.

Do not speak more than needed,

nor flatter with your lips.

Let your words carry weight,

and your silence protect peace.

———

Do not let desire rule over your eyes,

or you may be destroyed by what you gaze upon.

Do not let your heart follow lust,

or be caught in longing for what is not yours.

Do not sit with another man’s wife,

or lean too close to her beauty.

Do not linger in her presence,

lest you fall into a trap set by your own desire.

A flame is not extinguished by playing near it—

and neither is passion quenched by proximity.

Do not give your soul over to desire,

or surrender your strength to pleasure.

Many have fallen to charm and appearances—

and those who once wore crowns were ruined by it.

Do not stare at a young woman,

or become entangled in her beauty.

Let not her outward form take your heart,

for beauty fades, but wisdom endures.

Do not share secrets with a prostitute,

lest your legacy be tarnished.

Do not dine with the shameless,

or seek approval from those who mock the sacred.

Do not envy a sinner their success—

you do not know their end.

Do not imitate the ways of the arrogant,

for they will stumble in time.

Keep your distance from the proud,

and walk humbly with the lowly.

The mighty may fall without warning—

and those near them may fall too.

Do not argue with the quick-tempered,

or join the reckless in their wrath.

Do not seek the approval of the crowd

by mocking righteousness.

Let your name be honored for wisdom,

not for spectacle.

Be careful whose favor you seek.

Even a small act of compromise

can cloud a lifetime of integrity.

Guard your name as you would guard treasure.

For your reputation will walk ahead of you

when your feet have not yet arrived.

———

A wise ruler brings stability to his people,

but a proud leader brings ruin.

Power is given by YHWH,

and authority is upheld by justice.

The Most High sees all nations and leaders—

and in His time, He raises up the humble

and casts down the arrogant.

The success of a people is found in its leaders.

The strength of a city is found in its wisdom.

But pride makes both fragile.

YHWH uproots the proud,

and plants the meek in their place.

Do not boast in your power,

for your breath is not your own.

Why do dust and ashes exalt themselves?

Even while alive, the body decays.

A little sickness turns pride into mourning.

A swollen heart will be humbled by worms.

The beginning of pride is turning away from YHWH.

To lift oneself above others

is to walk into darkness.

Pride was not created for humanity,

nor fierce anger for those born of earth.

Pride has caused kingdoms to collapse

and palaces to crumble.

The humble will inherit honor,

but the arrogant will fall without warning.

Honor is found in humility,

and trust is born from reverence.

Those who walk in awe of YHWH

will be wise in their hearts.

The seed of pride is bitterness,

but the fruit of humility is peace.

Injustice and oppression are not part of wisdom.

YHWH does not show favoritism to the rich,

and He does not despise the poor.

He made both great and small,

and cares for each with justice.

A wise person gives generously,

and a fool hoards what he cannot keep.

The glory of rulers is their people.

The glory of a person is their honor.

A leader without love is a destroyer.

A poor person with wisdom is better than a king without it.

Do not dishonor yourself by chasing praise.

Let your actions speak,

and let your name rise with integrity.

———

Do not envy the one who prospers through wickedness,

or admire those whose ways are not pure.

The proud may seem exalted for a time,

but YHWH sees their end.

Do not marvel at the outward success of others,

for their story is not yet finished.

Many who seem secure are suddenly brought low,

and those overlooked are raised without warning.

It is not by appearance that YHWH judges,

but by the heart.

Do not praise anyone before they are tested,

for the truth of a person is revealed in time.

Do not think too highly of yourself in good fortune,

and do not despair when humbled.

YHWH lifts the poor from the dust,

and brings down the powerful from their thrones.

Trust in YHWH’s timing—

for life is full of sudden change.

One day brings glory; another brings mourning.

It is wise to rejoice humbly,

and to grieve with hope.

Do not speak proudly in your plans—

for YHWH may change your steps before sunset.

Let your words be measured,

and your heart rest in surrender.

Do not be anxious about what is beyond your reach.

Do not worry about tomorrow’s weight.

What has been appointed for you—accept.

What is hidden from you—release.

In times of abundance, be generous.

In times of lack, be thankful.

Do not trade your peace for riches,

nor your joy for reputation.

A faithful laborer is greater than one who boasts.

The one who rejoices in their small portion

is rich indeed.

Do not be ashamed of honest work,

or humble beginnings.

YHWH delights in those who walk with integrity,

even if unnoticed by the world.

Do not rebuke someone who is grieving.

Their sorrow may be heavier than you know.

Do not judge someone in hardship.

Their story may be your own one day.

Do not mock the one whose hands are calloused,

or despise the one who walks slowly.

The wind changes quickly—

and the last may soon be first.

———

When you do good, know to whom you give—

and you will be honored for your kindness.

Do good to the faithful,

and you will find your reward in due time.

Give to the humble and upright,

but do not give what is sacred to those who scorn the Way.

Give to those who walk in trust,

but not to those who use your gift to harm others.

Do not support the proud in their strength,

or feed the greed of those who oppress the poor.

For the wicked will repay you with evil,

and even your kindness will become a trap.

Do not help the one who sets snares for others,

or share your bread with the unrepentant.

They will take what is holy

and turn it against you.

You will be repaid with ingratitude,

and your name will be mocked by the very hand you fed.

As long as the wicked breathe, they plot harm—

even in peace, they prepare for war.

If troubles come, they will not stand with you.

If you fall, they will celebrate in secret.

Guard your generosity with wisdom.

Not all who smile are friends.

Not all who receive your help will bring peace.

Do not trust an enemy with your heart—

for their kindness is a mask.

Though their voice is sweet,

their soul waits for your weakness.

They crouch like a lion in the shadows,

watching for the moment to strike.

Do not believe them when they weep—

for behind the tears is a blade.

They may speak of peace,

but in their heart is conquest.

If you lift them up, beware—

they may climb higher only to push you down.

Many have shown mercy without wisdom,

and lost what they could never recover.

A person who shows compassion without discernment

invites sorrow into their home.

Let mercy and wisdom walk together.

Let love be guided by trust in YHWH.

———

If you touch pitch, your hands will be stained.

If you keep company with the arrogant,

you will learn their ways.

Do not sit too close to the powerful,

lest you be swept away in their storm.

They will speak kindly while they need you,

but when you stumble, they will forget you.

They will dine with you as long as you benefit them,

but mock you when your strength fades.

If you rise above them, they will envy you.

If you fall below them, they will abandon you.

Do not trust in their smiles,

for their hearts are calculating.

Their words are smooth,

but their intentions are sharp.

When the rich speak, many listen.

Their words are praised and repeated.

When the poor speak, they are dismissed.

Even truth is ignored when it comes without gold.

Wealth makes a voice loud.

Poverty makes a soul invisible.

Do not blame the poor for their silence,

or mock them for their grief.

They are not heard,

not because they lack wisdom—

but because the world loves status more than truth.

When the powerful stumble,

others rush to lift them.

When the humble fall,

they are blamed and forgotten.

Do not be amazed at these things.

This is the way of a world without justice.

But do not lose heart.

Hold fast to your dignity.

Let your soul not cling to false praise.

Seek not the tables of kings,

but the table of righteousness.

Let YHWH be your portion—

and you will lack nothing of eternal worth.

Delight in those who are humble.

Walk with those who walk in awe and trust.

Pride in the powerful may rise like smoke,

but it will fade like a shadow at sunset.

Wisdom dwells with the lowly.

Honor remains with the just.

———

Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself,

and who does not let his heart turn against him.

Blessed is the one whose soul rejoices in what is right,

and who walks in peace with a clear heart.

Do not torment yourself with guilt,

or ruin your life by withholding good things.

You are not your enemy—

so do not treat your soul as if it is undeserving.

Do not rob yourself of joy,

or reject the simple pleasures of your labor.

What good is wealth if it makes you bitter?

What value is gain if your soul is dry?

Be kind to yourself as you would be to a friend.

Let your soul delight in what is good.

Do not let your hands be open to all

while your heart is closed to your own joy.

Give, and give wisely—yes.

But also eat, drink, rest, and rejoice

in the work YHWH has given you.

Death will not wait for your generosity to be perfected.

And the grave receives no joy, no feast, no laughter.

Everything you have labored for will one day belong to another.

So share with the living.

And do not let your life pass in fear.

The generous are remembered.

The bitter die twice—once in the flesh,

and again in their forgotten name.

Do not hoard what you will never use.

Do not envy those who seem richer—

their portion may already be their reward.

The eyes of the greedy are never full.

Their soul withers like dust in the wind.

Whoever is greedy for more

is cruel to himself.

Whoever rejoices in what he has

lives in the blessing of contentment.

Do not fear to delight in the gift of life—

for it is YHWH who gave it.

Let your joy be rooted in reverence,

and your rest be wrapped in gratitude.

———

Whoever reveres YHWH will seek Wisdom,

and those who love Him will embrace her path.

Those who rise early to pursue her will find joy,

and walking in her steps brings peace.

She meets those who desire her,

and sits with them as a mother with her child.

To seek Wisdom is to find life.

To walk with her is to walk in the favor of YHWH.

Faithfulness brings honor.

A heart rooted in trust will never be uprooted.

Wisdom lifts up the humble

and places them among the righteous.

Do not say, “YHWH caused me to fall.”

He does not delight in sin.

Do not say, “It was His doing that I went astray.”

YHWH hates injustice.

He created humanity with freedom.

He gave each person the power to choose.

Fire and water are set before you—

stretch out your hand to whichever you desire.

Life and death are before you.

Blessing and curse—

and whichever you choose will be yours.

His mercy is great,

but He will not excuse willful destruction.

His eyes are on those who love Him.

He knows every step they take.

He has not commanded anyone to sin,

and He has not given permission for rebellion.

To choose Wisdom is to choose freedom.

To reject her is to choose slavery to desire.

Those who love Wisdom

love themselves.

Those who reject her

choose regret.

———

Do not rejoice in many children

if they have no reverence.

Do not take pride in numbers

if none of them walks in truth.

It is better to have one child who lives in awe and trust,

than a thousand who are rebellious.

A small house filled with love

is greater than a palace full of noise and arrogance.

Do not depend on a multitude for security—

for YHWH is not impressed by crowds.

He does not overlook wrongdoing

because of lineage or legacy.

The proud may escape human courts,

but they cannot escape the gaze of the Most High.

His eyes see all—

and His justice is patient, but precise.

Mercy and wrath are with Him.

His compassion is great,

but His correction is sure.

He will not excuse the unrepentant forever,

and He will not forget the oppressed.

Every secret deed will be brought to light.

Nothing is lost to Him.

Do not say, “Who sees me?”

or, “What I do in darkness is forgotten.”

YHWH sees deeper than vision,

and remembers longer than time.

The arrogant will not go unchallenged.

The powerful will not remain forever.

Do not marvel at the delay of justice.

YHWH is not slow—He is precise.

His works are vast,

His wisdom deeper than the sea.

He formed angels to carry His word,

and stars to trace His command.

The heavens obey Him.

The earth yields to Him.

Even the depths of chaos

answer to His voice.

He set boundaries for fire and water.

He measured out light and shadow.

Do not be deceived—

He knows every heart,

and weighs every motive.

The wicked will not go unnoticed,

but neither will the faithful be forgotten.

What He begins, He completes.

And what He speaks, He fulfills.

Let no one mock justice,

for justice belongs to YHWH.

———

YHWH formed human beings from the earth

and returned them to it again.

He gave them a limited number of days,

and appointed them to live according to His design.

He clothed them with strength like His own,

and made them in the likeness of His image.

He gave them mind, heart, and tongue,

so they could reason, speak, and walk in trust.

He filled them with knowledge and understanding,

and showed them good from evil.

He placed His eye within their hearts,

and gave them a sense of His greatness.

He gave them His instruction as a lamp,

and entrusted His covenant to their hands.

He taught them that life and death were before them,

and He invited them to choose life.

Their ways are always before Him.

Nothing they do is hidden from His gaze.

He appointed for every nation a time and place,

but He calls all people to return to Him.

He does not permit injustice to last forever,

and He will not forget those who cry out in truth.

Turn back to YHWH and leave your sin behind.

Pray before His face and lessen your pride.

Come to Him with all your heart.

Do not delay—

for He is full of mercy and restoration.

Who will praise the Most High in the grave,

or give thanks from the dust?

The living praise Him—

those who walk in awe and gratitude.

Do not be stubborn,

and do not put off returning to Him.

He sees your longing.

He hears the unspoken cry of your soul.

The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds—

and it will not rest until it reaches His throne.

YHWH will not delay forever.

He will come near to set things right,

and judge with mercy those who trust Him.

———

He who lives forever created all things.

YHWH alone is just.

To none has He given permission to declare His ways fully,

for His wisdom is beyond time.

Who can measure the greatness of His mercy,

or the depth of His understanding?

YHWH knows the number of the stars,

yet He is patient with the dust of the earth.

He sees the end from the beginning,

and yet gives room for repentance.

His mercy covers all creation.

He corrects gently and judges with kindness.

Like a breath is the life of a person—

here for a moment, then gone.

Like a shadow passing over the hills,

so are our days beneath the sun.

But even with such frailty,

He does not abandon us.

He teaches.

He warns.

He heals.

And He calls us back with grace.

A person may show compassion,

but YHWH’s compassion is beyond measure.

He corrects those who stray

and encourages those who return.

Do not delay your return.

Do not excuse your mistakes with pride.

Prepare yourself before you are tested,

and in times of peace, prepare for challenge.

Do not rely on your strength.

Do not say, “Who can stop me now?”

Do not follow every impulse,

for the desires of the heart are not always wise.

Be disciplined in your desires.

Do not indulge in excess,

for even honey can make you sick.

Be mindful of your time and energy.

Life is too short to waste on vanity.

Do not shame the poor,

or laugh at the broken.

Be slow to anger

and quick to show mercy.

Do not store up bitterness,

for it rots the soul.

Do not withhold forgiveness,

for you too are in need of grace.

Be generous when you can—

and wise when you cannot.

Let nothing you do be without thought.

Let nothing you say be without truth.

Those who learn wisdom become rivers of peace.

Those who walk in awe of YHWH shine with clarity.

———

A worker who is careless in small things

will soon fall in greater ones.

A person who is careless with their words

will not be trusted with truth.

One who sins against their own soul—

who will trust them again?

Some act humble in words

but burn with pride in secret.

Others seem bold in speech

but tremble at correction.

Do not judge a person by one moment.

Do not assume motives by appearance.

There is one who stumbles in silence

and is thought wise.

And another who speaks too much

and is considered a fool.

Better to slip with the foot

than with the tongue.

A fall can be healed.

A reputation once stained

may never fully recover.

Do not be quick to believe all you hear.

Not every whisper is true.

Not every word deserves a response.

A person may speak in jest

but be taken in earnest.

Another may speak from sorrow

and be misunderstood as angry.

Discern before you speak.

Pause before you assume.

A person who gossips reveals secrets.

Avoid them if you desire peace.

Do not share your heart with the reckless—

for they will spill it to gain favor.

Have you heard something? Let it rest.

Speak only when it serves peace.

Do not rebuke someone harshly

unless you’ve heard both sides.

A wise person listens before judging.

A fool rushes in with certainty.

Knowledge can puff up,

but wisdom humbles.

There is shame that leads to grace,

and shame that leads to ruin.

Discern the difference.

Not all who blush are guilty.

Not all who speak boldly are pure.

A person may sin in secret

and carry it in their eyes unknowingly.

Another may fall openly

but rise with repentance.

Let correction be like rain:

cleansing, not crushing.

Let your words build,

even when they cut.

A person who reveres YHWH

will guard their tongue,

and will walk carefully among the wise.

———

There is a rebuke that brings healing,

and there is one that wounds like a sword.

There is one who keeps silent and is thought wise,

and one who speaks too quickly and is mocked.

There is one who keeps silent out of reverence,

and another who is silent because they have nothing to say.

There is a time to speak, and a time to listen.

Wisdom knows the difference.

The tongue of the reckless is like an arrow—

fast, loud, and often destructive.

But the speech of the wise is like rain—

gentle, timely, and nourishing.

A fool may speak at the wrong time

and be laughed at for his confusion.

Better to stumble with your feet

than to stumble with your words.

There is shame that protects a person,

and shame that ruins a soul.

One may keep silent and appear patient,

yet burn with frustration inside.

Another may speak with boldness

and reveal their ignorance.

A gift given in secret cools anger,

but a bribe given to gain honor is unjust.

A fool gives away what he has

and expects reward.

A wise person gives quietly,

and receives more than they imagined.

Do not praise someone for giving

if they only do so to be seen.

There is a gain that brings no profit,

and a loss that leads to honor.

Some people trade their soul for gold,

but find it buys them nothing in the end.

There is one who loses face and is lifted up,

and one who boasts and is brought low.

There is one who keeps a secret wisely,

and another who hides what should be confessed.

A person who speaks truth with grace

is like music at a feast.

But flattery is like sour wine—

it pleases for a moment, but leaves regret.

A proverb from a fool is out of place,

like a limp leg in a strong body.

Wealth is good when gained with wisdom,

but riches without honor are like dust in the wind.

A fool spends freely and boasts loudly,

but the wise walk quietly and leave a lasting legacy.

Whoever builds with lies

will see their house crumble.

The wise are careful with words.

The humble are honored in time.

———

My child, have you sinned?

Do not stay in it—

turn back and seek forgiveness.

Flee from sin as you would from a snake—

for if you get too close,

it will bite you.

Its teeth are like the teeth of a lion,

destroying the soul of those who toy with it.

Every sin leaves a scar,

but repentance brings healing.

Empty words are like foolish friends—

they shout but do not protect.

A careless mouth is a trap for the proud,

but the wise build safety with silence.

A thief is better than a habitual liar,

but both will face ruin in the end.

The speech of the fool brings destruction,

but the words of the wise build cities.

Fools laugh in the marketplace

and stumble in their own pride.

The wise listen before they speak,

and smile without mockery.

Learning is to the wise

what water is to a tree.

But to a fool, instruction is a heavy stone—

carried, but never understood.

Knowledge is like a secure foundation.

The wise man builds upon it with care.

But the fool plays in the mud,

and calls it strength.

The heart of the proud is like a broken jar—

no wisdom can stay in it.

The wise reflect on their path.

The foolish stumble without knowing why.

A house built without a plan collapses.

So is a life without instruction.

The wisdom of the humble is like a clear spring.

The pride of the wicked is like polluted water.

Kindness is on the lips of the discerning.

Curses live on the tongues of the wicked.

———

The lazy are like a stained stone—

everyone looks away from it in shame.

A sluggard is like a pile of dung—

those who touch it shake off their hands.

A child raised in idleness becomes a disgrace,

and a daughter who lacks discipline brings worry.

A father grieves for a foolish child,

and sorrow lingers like an open wound.

To mourn the dead is one thing,

but to mourn a fool is lifelong.

The dead rest in peace.

The fool disturbs the living.

Weep less for the departed,

and more for the one who throws away wisdom.

The foolish laugh loudly

but do not listen.

Their talk is like a cart without wheels—

loud, jolting, and aimless.

A proverb from a fool

is like a thorn in the hand of a drunkard—

they don’t feel it, and it still wounds others.

Teach the unwise and they resist.

Discipline the lazy and they yawn.

The fool builds but cannot finish.

He begins to sow but forgets the harvest.

Friendship with a fool is fragile.

If you lean on them, you will fall.

Let your words not be wasted on one

who rejects correction.

Let your energy go where it will bear fruit.

The wise are slow to anger,

but the fool rushes into offense.

Be ashamed of dishonesty—

not of honesty.

Be ashamed of greed—

not of need.

There is shame that saves,

and shame that destroys.

Know the difference.

Do not grieve endlessly.

Let the tears flow,

but let healing rise too.

Grief has its time.

So does joy.

The wise store up friendship

like treasure for a storm.

But the fool quarrels

even with their own soul.

———

YHWH, Father and Master of my life,

do not abandon me to my own impulses.

Do not let pride or desire rule over me,

and do not give me over to a reckless heart.

Who will discipline my thoughts

and teach my heart wisdom?

Let not my sins multiply,

nor my faults grow strong against me.

Let me not fall into the hands of my own desires,

nor be devoured by my own passions.

Do not let my mouth form careless words,

or my tongue swear falsely.

For swearing and oaths multiply sin,

and words spoken without truth bring judgment.

Do not grow comfortable with promises you can’t keep—

for even secret vows are heard in heaven.

A person constantly using the sacred Name carelessly

will not be free from guilt.

If they speak without reverence,

their house will not be pure.

There is one who swears often and regrets it,

and another who lies and laughs.

But the one who reveres YHWH

will weigh every word.

Sins of the tongue bring death

more than the sword.

Do not raise your voice in deceit.

Let your lips be trained in truth.

My child, guard your speech.

Watch the door of your mouth.

Do not fall because of your words.

There is shame that leads to repentance,

and shame that leads to ruin.

Let yours lead you home.

A woman who betrays her covenant

forgets the face of her Creator.

She exchanges trust for flattery,

and covenant for concealment.

She will be remembered not by name,

but by shadow.

Her sin may be hidden from others,

but YHWH sees it clearly.

The eyes of the Most High

see deeper than appearances.

He sees every step we take,

even in secret places.

She may say, “No one sees me,”

but her own shame testifies against her.

And the judgment will not sleep.

So it is with all who sin in secret:

They forget that heaven watches,

and that mercy is only refused

by those who refuse to return.

———

Wisdom sings her own praise,

and in the presence of YHWH she opens her voice.

She speaks in the assembly of the Most High,

and shines in the presence of His power.

“I came forth from the mouth of the Most High,

and covered the earth like a mist.

I dwelled in the heights,

and my throne was in a pillar of cloud.

I alone encircled the vault of heaven,

and walked in the depths of the abyss.

Over waves of the sea, over all the earth,

and over every people and nation, I held sway.

Among all these I sought a resting place.

In whose inheritance would I dwell?”

Then the Creator of all gave His command:

“The tent you will pitch is among Jacob,

your inheritance is with Israel.”

He made me dwell in the beloved people.

I took root in an honored nation.

I grew tall like a cedar in Lebanon,

and like a cypress on Mount Hermon.

I blossomed like a palm tree in En-Gedi,

and rose like a rosebush in Jericho.

Like an olive tree in the field,

like a plane tree near the waters, I gave shade and fruit.

I gave forth fragrance like cinnamon and sweet myrrh,

like choice spices from sacred incense.

My breath was like the perfume of frankincense

blended in the tent of meeting.

Like the terebinth I spread my branches,

and my fruit was honor and abundance.

Those who eat me will hunger for more.

Those who drink me will thirst for more.

Whoever listens to me will not be put to shame.

Those who work with me will not stumble.

All this is the book of the covenant

of the Most High God—

the Torah that Moses commanded,

an inheritance for the gatherings of Jacob.

It overflows with Wisdom like the Pishon,

and grows deep like the Tigris in spring.

It flows like the Euphrates with understanding,

and like the Jordan at harvest it swells with insight.

It shines like the light,

and like the Gihon it blesses all who draw from it.

The first did not fully grasp her,

and the last have not reached her depths.

Her thoughts are broader than the sea,

and her ways deeper than the abyss.

Now I, Wisdom, have made myself like a vine,

and my blossoms bear fruit of glory and truth.

Come to me, all you who desire me.

Fill yourselves with my fruit.

Those who eat me will hunger no more.

Those who drink me will live forever.

Whoever obeys me will never be put to shame.

Those who serve me will receive life.

———

Three things my soul delights in—

yes, four that are beautiful in the eyes of YHWH:

A family united in harmony,

neighbors who love one another,

a wife and husband who walk in trust,

and a people who live in awe of YHWH together.

My soul hates two kinds of people,

and a third fills me with disgust:

A proud beggar,

a rich liar,

and an old fool full of lust.

What wisdom is there in gray hair

if the heart has not matured?

———

Blessed is the husband of a good and faithful wife—

his days will be twice as joyful.

A noble woman brings delight to her husband,

and her wisdom adds years to his life.

A quiet and kind soul is a gift from YHWH,

and there is no price for a well-formed character.

Modesty in speech and clarity of purpose—

these are more beautiful than gold.

A woman of strength is the joy of her home.

Her soul is grounded in trust and awe of YHWH.

She rises early with wisdom,

and her lamp does not go out in the night.

Her voice brings peace to the house,

and her hands bless all she touches.

The beauty of a noble wife is like the rising sun—

it brings light to all who live with her.

Grace on her face reflects the peace in her heart,

and her words are wrapped in compassion.

As mountains provide refuge and rivers bring fruit,

so is a woman who builds her house with wisdom.

But a quarrelsome spirit is like constant rain—

drenching peace and withering joy.

A loud voice and restless spirit

disturb the soul like a trumpet in war.

A partner who mocks or belittles

weakens the hands and dims the eyes.

The one who builds up

is a tree of life.

The one who tears down

is like decay in the bones.

Shame does not belong to a woman of trust,

nor does gossip cling to one who walks in grace.

Honor rests on the forehead of the faithful,

and her memory will be a song of blessing.

Keep watch over your eyes with wisdom,

and do not be captured by charm alone.

Many have stumbled for the sake of appearance,

and beauty fades like a passing shadow.

If the heart is not right,

what good is the face?

If the soul is proud,

what good is the form?

Like a lamp on a stand

is a woman of grace in a house of peace.

But like smoke in the eyes

is one who disrupts without cause.

Let your household be a place of gentleness.

Let peace rest upon your table.

Let love be the fragrance in your home,

and wisdom the foundation of its walls.

———

When profit becomes the highest goal,

many lose their way.

Even the faithful are tested

when silver and gain are involved.

The furnace tests clay pots,

and trials reveal the heart.

A person’s speech reveals their character—

as surely as fruit shows the health of a tree.

Do not praise someone before they speak—

for the tongue is the gate to the soul.

If someone seeks gain at any cost,

their life will be full of betrayal and broken trust.

A thief is more honorable than a habitual liar—

but both will lose their way.

The one who speaks peace

but plots evil

is like someone who polishes a mirror

but hides a dark stain.

A slip of the tongue may reveal what was hidden,

and the wise take note of such slips.

Better to be rebuked openly in truth

than praised falsely in deceit.

Whoever digs a pit for others

will fall into it themselves.

Whoever rolls a stone to trap another

will see it roll back on them.

Malice burns like fire

and spreads like dry thorns.

The whisper of a slanderer

destroys friendships

and poisons peace.

Do not associate with one

who cannot keep a confidence.

A wound may heal,

but betrayal lingers in the bones.

Honor your friendships with care.

Speak truth in love.

And trust only those

whose hearts have been tested in time.

Like a bird that flies from its nest

is the friend who cannot be trusted.

Guard your words like treasure.

Let your speech be slow,

and your heart quick to discern.

Whoever walks in awe and trust in YHWH

will speak with grace and live with peace.

———

Whoever holds onto anger

against another person—

can they ask healing from YHWH?

They show no mercy to a friend,

yet cry out for mercy themselves.

If they, being human, nurse vengeance—

who will forgive them their sins?

Remember your end,

and put away enmity.

Think of death and decay,

and let go of hostility.

Remember the commandments,

and do not hold grudges.

Recall the covenant of the Most High,

and overlook offenses.

Wrath and anger—these are destructive things,

and the sinful cling to them tightly.

The one who seeks revenge

will suffer vengeance from YHWH.

He will remember their sin in the day of reckoning.

Forgive your neighbor the wrong done to you,

and then, when you pray, your own sins will be forgiven.

Avoid quarreling, and you will diminish sin.

Control your temper, and your reputation will grow.

The hot-tempered stir up conflict.

The patient quiet it down.

The fire of anger, once lit,

spreads like flame among dry thorns.

Its smoke clouds judgment,

and its heat scorches peace.

Whoever digs a trap for another

falls into it themselves.

Whoever sets a snare

will be caught by their own bitterness.

The tongue has the power to destroy cities,

and words have divided great nations.

A sharp tongue has overthrown houses,

and driven loved ones into exile.

Watch your mouth like a guard at the gate.

Put bars on your lips like a fortress.

Let not your tongue be quick to strike—

for it may cost you everything.

Strife arises from careless words.

A whisper can separate lifelong friends.

Do not be quick to repeat what you hear,

and you will avoid both shame and conflict.

Friendship built on truth stands strong.

But friendship built on gossip fades like smoke.

———

The one who shows compassion to the poor

lends to YHWH Himself—

and YHWH will repay them in due time.

Be willing to help your neighbor in need.

Do not let them go empty-handed if you have the power to help.

Lend to those in difficulty,

and do not delay when they ask in sincerity.

Keep your promise when lending,

and do not bring shame to one who trusts you.

Lose your silver for the sake of a friend,

and you will gain treasure beyond gold.

Do not let pride stop your kindness,

or wealth harden your heart.

Many have refused to lend out of fear of loss,

but this has caused them to lose their own soul.

Do not forget:

You too may fall into need one day.

Be generous in your time of strength,

so that you may be remembered in your time of need.

Lend to the poor

and receive YHWH’s favor.

Store up kindness,

and you will never lack.

Restrain yourself from arguing over repayment.

Let your mercy speak louder than your ledger.

A wicked borrower treats the lender with disdain—

they accept help with smiles

but repay with excuses.

They act grateful when in need,

but when the time comes to return what is owed,

they vanish or become hostile.

Yet do not let this make your hand cold.

Be wise, not bitter.

Protect yourself with discernment—

not with hardness of heart.

Let your treasure be stored in heaven,

not buried beneath fear.

Make provision for the journey—

for your true inheritance is eternal.

Let your giving be like planting seed:

quiet, intentional, and full of hope.

When the day of trouble comes,

the faithful will be remembered.

———

The one who loves their child

will teach them with patience.

Wise discipline brings rest to the parent,

and pride in the child’s maturity.

Correct your children while there is hope,

and do not let their will grow wild like weeds.

A spoiled child brings sorrow.

A disciplined child brings peace.

Indulge a child without wisdom,

and you will suffer grief in their future.

Let your instruction be consistent,

and your love steady like the rising sun.

Do not laugh at everything they do—

or one day you’ll weep at what they become.

Let your delight be in their growth,

not in their permission.

Discipline forms the soul,

like pruning shapes the tree.

A child left to themselves

becomes a burden, not a blessing.

Do not trade joy for anger,

or lose your peace to resentment.

A joyful heart is life to the body.

A bitter spirit dries the bones.

Envy and worry shorten life,

but contentment is healing to the soul.

A cheerful heart brings food to the table,

but a troubled mind robs appetite.

Do not dwell in sadness,

or let anxiety consume your days.

Cast off grief,

and clothe yourself with strength.

Delight your soul with goodness.

Take care of your body with wisdom.

For sorrow has slain many,

and bitterness has destroyed nations.

Rest your heart in joy,

and guard your peace like a treasure.

Joy remains where trust in YHWH dwells,

and peace flows in the soul that walks with Him.

———

Staying awake over wealth

wears out the body,

and anxiety robs sleep from the soul.

The concern of riches disturbs rest,

and worry about tomorrow

keeps the eyes from closing.

The one who loves gold

will never be satisfied.

The one who chases wealth

will always fear poverty.

Many have lost their way for the sake of silver,

and their destruction was swift and without warning.

A rich person who walks blamelessly

is to be admired.

If they prosper without greed

and remain generous—

this is a rare and beautiful thing.

Whoever can enjoy riches without sin,

and give without regret—

they will be blessed.

They have passed the test

and remain upright.

Their treasure is not only in their hands,

but in their soul.

Do not be jealous of the wealthy,

if they lack peace.

What use is gold

without rest for the heart?

Better to have little with joy

than abundance with fear.

Were you seated at a banquet?

Do not let your greed be seen.

Control yourself with respect,

and do not reach for everything in sight.

Be the first to stop eating,

not the first to grab.

Moderation is a mark of honor,

and restraint wins favor.

A small portion, eaten in peace,

is better than a feast that breeds guilt.

Do not boast of how much you consume,

for gluttony brings shame.

Listen more than you speak,

and your presence will be remembered.

Kind words over food are better

than gifts that carry arrogance.

Rise from the table with gratitude,

not regret.

Give thanks to YHWH who provides,

and bless the one who prepared the meal.

Generosity is sweeter than wine,

and a joyful heart is more filling than bread.

Let your hospitality reflect your humility.

Let your abundance reflect your awe of YHWH.

———

If you are chosen to lead a gathering,

do not exalt yourself above those present.

Be among them as one of their own—

serve with humility, and honor will follow.

When your work is finished,

take your place and rest.

Then enjoy the gathering as one who is loved,

receiving the joy you first offered.

Speak when the time is right—

but not before.

Do not interrupt others

or take the spotlight for yourself.

Let your speech be brief,

your tone thoughtful,

and your words filled with understanding.

As a gem in fine gold

is a wise word spoken in season.

Listen more than you speak,

and when you speak, be calm and clear.

If you are among the elders,

do not try to appear their equal.

Let your wisdom speak for itself,

not your pride.

Desire to learn, and you will grow wise.

Seek instruction, and you will find life.

Those who trust in YHWH

will gain insight from within.

Their steps will be steady,

and their choices well guided.

Do not act on impulse.

Do not say, “No one sees me.”

YHWH sees all that is hidden,

and every thought is laid bare before Him.

Do not follow your desires

if they lead you away from truth.

Do not lean on your own judgment

when wisdom is calling you higher.

A heart rooted in awe and trust of YHWH

will shine with discernment.

It will restrain impulses,

and walk steadily, even in the dark.

To trust in YHWH is the first step of wisdom,

and to honor His instruction is the path to peace.

Let counsel shape your heart,

and humility shape your speech.

Then your steps will be strong,

and your name remembered in blessing.

———

The one who walks in awe and trust of YHWH

will never stumble.

Those who anchor their life in His instruction

will not be shaken by fear or shame.

Even in adversity, the wise remain steady,

for they have prepared their hearts for every season.

The faithful person reflects before answering,

and their steps are guided by counsel and prayer.

A fool relies on impulse.

A wise person leans on trust.

YHWH has created all things in perfect balance—

light and dark, peace and adversity, good and challenge.

One thing rises against another—

day against night, rest against labor,

grace against judgment.

So it is with all people and their works.

No one can fully comprehend His ways.

Some are exalted, others humbled.

Some are set apart, others called to serve.

But all are in His hand.

Do not say, “Why is this person honored, and that one made low?”

For who can understand the mind of the Most High?

The potter shapes clay as he sees fit—

and so YHWH molds each soul for its purpose.

Do not mistreat those who work for you.

Remember: you too serve the same Master in heaven.

Treat the laborer with dignity.

Give them their rest.

Let joy visit their table,

and peace dwell in your fields.

Discipline when needed,

but never without love.

Guide firmly, but never without mercy.

A servant with wisdom is a treasure.

Do not rule by fear, but by faithfulness.

If you have been given leadership,

walk humbly before those entrusted to you.

Honor their work.

Teach with justice.

And let the blessing of YHWH

rest on your house.

Do not overwork others to build your wealth.

For what you gain in gold,

you may lose in peace.

Let your household be balanced—

with shared rhythms of work and rest.

Trust in YHWH is better than silver.

Wisdom is better than endless toil.

Peace in the soul is better than profit in the hand.

———

Empty hopes and false dreams

lead the foolish like drifting clouds.

The one who chases visions without discernment

clutches the wind.

Dreams are born from many cares,

and fantasies arise from an unsettled heart.

If they are not from YHWH,

do not stake your life upon them.

Divination, omens, and signs without truth

are tricks of the imagination—

not the voice of the Holy One.

Let your heart be shaped by wisdom,

not by superstition.

The lawless rely on illusions.

The wise are grounded in truth.

Those who walk in awe and trust of YHWH

do not fear misfortune.

Their hearts are steady

even when the storm rises.

The one who depends on YHWH

is like a shielded fortress,

protected in the time of testing.

Trust in YHWH

and your steps will be firm.

Your path will not be shaken

when others lose their way.

What is the value of sacrifice

offered by one who oppresses the poor?

What does fasting mean

if the hungry are left in want?

Bringing offerings from stolen goods

is like mocking the altar.

Such gifts are defiled, not holy.

YHWH does not delight in outward ritual

when justice is denied and mercy withheld.

The prayers of the humble

rise like incense before Him.

But the hands that shed innocent blood

cannot buy His favor.

Those who walk with integrity

are received with joy.

Those who live with deceit

offer nothing that pleases Him.

To live in awe of YHWH

is to walk in righteousness.

To do justice

is better than many offerings.

Mercy, truth, and a faithful heart

are the worship He desires.

———

The one who keeps Torah

offers true sacrifice.

The one who gives with a generous heart

pleases YHWH more than one who brings gold.

Turning away from evil

is an offering of peace.

Walking in justice

is a sacrifice of praise.

Do not come before YHWH empty-handed,

for all your offerings should reflect your heart.

The offering of the righteous is acceptable,

and its fragrance rises before the Most High.

The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds—

and it will not rest until it reaches heaven.

YHWH sees the heart,

and He will not forget the one who serves with reverence.

Glorify YHWH with generosity,

and do not withhold from the poor.

Give as you have been given—

freely, joyfully, without resentment.

For YHWH repays compassion

with compassion.

He is not unjust,

and He does not play favorites.

He will not ignore the cry of the broken,

or delay justice for the orphan or the widow.

Their tears reach His throne.

Their plea shakes the foundations of heaven.

YHWH will rise to defend the powerless,

and bring down those who abuse them.

Justice is not forgotten before Him.

And mercy is never denied

to those who walk in truth.

———

Have mercy on us, O YHWH of all,

and look upon us in our humility.

Send fear upon the nations who do not know You—

let them see that You alone are God.

Lift Your hand against the proud,

that they may behold Your might.

As You have shown Yourself holy among us,

show Yourself great among the nations.

Let them know, as we have known,

that there is no God but You, O YHWH.

Renew Your signs.

Repeat Your wonders.

Glorify Your hand and Your right arm.

Stir up wrath and pour out mercy.

Show the greatness of Your name.

Gather all the tribes of Jacob.

Restore them as from the beginning.

Have compassion on Your holy city,

Jerusalem, the place of Your rest.

Fill Zion with the radiance of Your majesty,

and Your Temple with Your glory.

Give witness to those You formed at the start.

Fulfill the words spoken by Your prophets.

Reward those who trust in You.

Let the faithful rejoice in Your presence.

Hear the prayer of Your servants,

according to the blessing of Aaron over Your people.

That all who dwell on earth

may know You, the Eternal One.

Let there be peace in the governance of the people.

Let those who lead act with wisdom.

Let judges be filled with understanding,

and guide with justice and truth.

Let no false heart rise to power,

nor selfishness speak from the throne.

Let every decision be rooted in counsel,

and every action guided by integrity.

Grant me wisdom, YHWH,

to discern between right and wrong—

to rule my house with peace

and walk in reverence before You.

———

Every friend says, “I am your friend,”

but some are friends only in name.

Not all companions are loyal—

some seek their own gain in your need.

Some rejoice in your success,

but turn against you when trouble comes.

There is a friend who is like a mirror,

and another like a shadow.

One reflects truth,

the other disappears in darkness.

Choose your counselors wisely.

Let those who advise you

be full of understanding and awe of YHWH.

Do not ask advice from one

who stands to gain or lose by your decision.

Do not seek direction from the proud,

the jealous, or the greedy.

They may speak words that sound right,

but their heart is not for your good.

Before you act, seek counsel from those who live righteously.

Then examine your own heart in prayer.

For a person’s soul often gives warning—

and a wise heart senses what words cannot say.

Trust your spirit,

but test your emotions.

Not every urge is divine.

Not every hesitation is fear.

The beginning of wisdom

is to fear YHWH and trust in His way.

He fills the soul of the faithful with insight.

Their words bring healing,

and their choices bring peace.

Do not let passion guide your appetite.

For many have died through overindulgence.

Discipline your cravings,

and you will prolong your life.

A little eaten with peace

is better than feasting in guilt and regret.

Too much wine brings confusion.

Too much food brings sickness.

Moderation is wisdom,

and self-control is strength.

Let your eating serve your purpose,

and your rest restore your soul.

Do not ruin your health chasing taste.

What fills the mouth may empty the life.

YHWH gives each person insight

to know what blesses or burdens them.

Listen to your body with care,

and your spirit will rejoice.

———

Honor physicians for their work,

for YHWH has created them with skill.

The healing they bring

comes from the Most High.

Their wisdom is a gift,

their hands are an extension of mercy.

YHWH gives knowledge to the healer,

so that medicine may restore and comfort.

Do not reject remedies from the earth—

YHWH made them,

and the wise will not despise them.

The physician applies treatment,

and YHWH brings restoration.

There is a time to seek the healer,

and a time to pray for healing.

In your suffering, turn to YHWH.

Repent from all wrongdoing.

Offer incense with a pure heart.

Make peace with your neighbor.

Leave your sin behind,

and lift your cry to heaven.

Then let the physician do their part,

for they too are servants of YHWH.

The one who sins and defies instruction

brings harm to their own soul—

and even healing may flee from them.

My child, let your tears fall for the dead.

Let your grief be spoken,

and your sorrow honored.

Wrap yourself in mourning for a short time—

but do not let sadness overtake your life.

Grief has its season.

So does healing.

Do not forget,

but do not be trapped in what has passed.

Honor the dead with peace,

and remember them in quiet strength.

Excessive grief brings no comfort—

and bitterness is not a tribute.

Rise again with purpose.

Live in a way that honors their memory.

The farmer tills the ground

and feeds the world.

His hands are dirty,

but his work is holy.

The blacksmith shapes iron with fire.

The potter molds clay with care.

The artist carves wood with joy.

Each worker plays a role

in the harmony of the world.

They may not be wise in speech,

but their skill keeps life turning.

Without their labor, cities would crumble.

Their work is not lesser in YHWH’s eyes.

But those who seek Wisdom

must make time for silence,

study, and reflection.

The wise govern not with power,

but with discernment.

And the people rejoice

when justice flows from wisdom.

———

The one who gives their soul to study the law of the Most High

is filled with wisdom.

They seek the counsel of the wise

and reflect on every sacred word.

They rise early to pray,

and open their hearts to instruction.

They seek out truth in parables,

and meditate on hidden meaning.

They serve among the great,

and are honored by those in power,

because their wisdom speaks with clarity and grace.

They will be guided by holy insight,

and their speech will be filled with understanding.

They will share the counsel of the Spirit,

and bring forth truth like a wellspring.

Their mind reflects on the works of YHWH,

and their heart delights in His ways.

They meditate on the mysteries of creation,

and rejoice in the unfolding of divine order.

All that YHWH has made is good—

each work in its proper time.

No one can say, “What is this for?”

For every purpose will be revealed in its time.

At His word, water stood still like a wall.

At His voice, the stars took their place.

At His command, the snow and wind obey.

The thunder and lightning answer His call.

Blessing and disaster, life and death,

all are within His design.

He brings healing,

and He strikes with justice.

He lifts up,

and He casts down.

The works of YHWH are full of wonder—

each balanced with its opposite.

As the east opposes the west,

so does good stand against evil,

light against darkness,

mercy against wrath.

In His wisdom, He made all things.

And the hearts of the faithful

see His hand in every event.

Those who reflect on these things

will not fall into foolishness.

Their mind will be centered in awe,

and their mouth will speak blessings.

Praise YHWH with all your soul.

Speak of His wonders without ceasing.

For all that He does is perfect,

and His mercy is over all His works.

———

Great trouble is appointed for every human being,

a heavy burden lies on the children of Adam.

From the day they leave their mother’s womb

until the day they return to the dust,

they face anxiety, fear, and toil.

What they hope for may fail,

what they fear may find them.

Even in sleep, their minds are restless—

as if fleeing battle in the night.

When they rise, it is with fear in their heart,

as if danger waits at every corner.

What is true for kings is true for laborers.

The struggle does not spare the great or the poor.

All flesh is dust.

All must return to the earth.

The inheritance of every mortal is death.

But not all lives are equal in their journey—

some are crowned with peace,

others with sorrow.

Greed and violence bring ruin.

Envy shortens life.

Pride multiplies enemies.

The wicked build wealth with deception,

but it will not last the season.

Gold acquired through injustice

will melt like snow in the heat.

In the end, the wicked leave behind

a trail of shame,

while the righteous are remembered with joy.

The good of life is found in a quiet heart,

a thankful spirit,

and a body at peace with its work.

A little with righteousness

is better than great wealth with torment.

To live in awe and trust of YHWH

is greater than all treasure.

It is a shield in adversity,

a light in dark places.

Death is the boundary of all striving.

But a virtuous name outlives the grave.

Store up mercy, not gold.

Build up kindness, not fortresses.

Leave behind peace, not possessions.

This is the legacy of the wise—

a life well lived,

a soul well anchored.

———

O death, how bitter is your memory

to one who lives at ease—

with peace in their home,

strength in their body,

and joy in their path.

But to the weary, the sick, the aging—

to those who have lost all hope—

you come not as a thief,

but as a release.

Whether embraced or feared,

death visits every person.

Rich or poor, great or small—

none can escape the dust.

Yet do not be afraid of death’s decree.

Remember: it was spoken for all at the beginning.

What is from the earth returns to the earth,

as all the living are destined to rest.

Accept your end with peace,

and live with honor before it arrives.

The children of sinners inherit shame.

Their name fades with dishonor.

Let your life be remembered in righteousness,

not in ruin.

Woe to the one who mocks wisdom,

who turns away from truth,

and builds a house of deceit.

Such people leave behind broken paths,

and their descendants walk in confusion.

The memory of the wicked decays,

but the name of the righteous is planted like a tree.

There is a shame that saves,

and a shame that destroys.

Be ashamed of lying,

of betraying a friend,

of pride without reason,

and of speaking what should be silent.

Be ashamed of stealing,

of gazing with lust,

of dishonoring your parents,

and of despising the poor.

Be ashamed of false judgment,

of withholding truth,

and of using your tongue to spread harm.

Do not be ashamed of reverence,

of truth,

or of keeping your word.

Let your honor rise from integrity.

Let your shame teach you to walk in light.

———

Do not be ashamed of what honors truth.

Do not hide from correction that saves the soul.

Be ashamed of lying,

but never of confessing the truth.

Be ashamed of injustice,

but never of showing mercy.

Be ashamed of betrayal,

but not of asking wise counsel.

Do not fear what others think

when you stand for what is right.

Let your shame protect your heart,

but never silence your light.

Be wise in your household.

Teach your children self-respect and reverence.

Protect your home with discipline,

and guide with kindness and clarity.

Honor your daughters as precious.

Guard their dignity

as you would your own name.

Let modesty and grace walk together,

so that joy and honor dwell in your house.

Do not fix your gaze on everything you see,

nor speak on every matter.

Let your eyes be trained in discernment,

and your words in wisdom.

Now let us praise the works of YHWH,

for His word is radiant in all things.

The sun shines, commanding the day,

glorious in its rising.

The moon, ever faithful in her cycle,

marks the seasons with beauty.

The stars stand in joyful order,

guardians of the night sky.

At His word, snow falls upon the earth,

and the rain returns in due season.

The rainbow bends in radiant color,

a sign of His promise,

shining with unspeakable glory.

The mountains and oceans obey His voice.

The thunder declares His strength.

The wind and fire carry out His command.

All things are in balance.

Nothing is beyond His wisdom.

YHWH sees the depths of the abyss

and the secrets of every heart.

No thought escapes Him.

No whisper is hidden from His gaze.

He shaped all creation with truth and love,

and filled it with beauty and purpose.

The faithful see His glory

in every rising sun,

every breath of wind,

every beat of the heart.

———

The pride of the heavens is the clear sky,

arrayed in splendor by the hand of YHWH.

The sun shines in its appointed time,

a marvelous instrument blazing with fire.

At high noon it scorches the earth,

but no one can look directly at it.

It governs the day with strength and rhythm,

and testifies to the wisdom of the Most High.

The moon, in all her phases,

rules the appointed seasons.

She marks times and feasts,

a light that lessens but never ceases.

The stars shine in their watch,

joyful in their place above.

YHWH calls them by name,

and they respond with song.

Look at the rainbow and bless its Maker.

It bends with radiant light,

a perfect arc stretched by holy hands.

The snow falls like soft feathers,

and covers the earth with peace.

The frost hardens the soil like iron.

Even the lakes are sealed with glass.

The wind howls with power.

Lightning splits the sky.

Thunder shakes the mountains.

And through it all,

creation does not disobey.

The north wind brings snow and ice,

but also clear skies and fresh renewal.

The scorching heat of summer

comes from the blazing desert wind.

YHWH orders all with wisdom.

He balances the extremes

and holds them in harmony.

He carved the mountains,

filled the seas,

numbered the clouds,

and taught fire its boundaries.

All His works are beautiful and timely,

each in its proper place.

They all obey His word—

none of them rebel.

We could speak forever

and still not reach the end of His greatness.

What we have said is only a whisper—

how much more is left unsaid?

Let us praise YHWH with all our hearts.

The Eternal is beyond all measure.

His glory surpasses words.

His wonders never end.

———

Let us now sing the praises of the faithful,

our ancestors in their generations.

Through them, YHWH established greatness—

rulers, prophets, and teachers with wisdom.

Some held power over nations,

others gave wise counsel in peace.

Some led with justice,

others were gifted in poetry, song, or law.

All were honored in their time,

glorious in their days.

Some left behind great names—

their stories remembered with joy.

Others are forgotten—

their names lost,

their works unseen.

But these too were righteous.

Their deeds were known in heaven,

even if the world forgot their names.

Their faith lives on in their children.

Their integrity became a root of blessing.

Their descendants remain,

a living testimony to their strength.

Their bodies rest in peace,

but their name lives on for generations.

People will declare their wisdom,

and the assembly will proclaim their praise.

Enoch pleased YHWH,

and was taken to heaven—

a witness to the reward of trust.

Noah was found righteous and blameless.

Because of him, life was preserved.

Through Abraham, a covenant was made.

He trusted YHWH and was called a friend.

Isaac upheld the promise.

Jacob received the blessing

and passed it on to the twelve tribes.

With faithful hearts and steady hands,

they followed the path of truth.

They were not perfect—

but they walked with YHWH.

And their legacy is not in riches,

but in righteousness.

———

YHWH loved Moses more than any other,

and made him great in the sight of all.

By His word, He led Moses through wonders.

He made him strong in awe and holiness.

He gave him the voice of the law,

and commandments for all creation.

He let Moses hear His voice,

and showed him the flame of glory.

He made a covenant of peace with him,

and placed him over His people.

He made Moses king over the upright,

gave him honor in the presence of rulers,

and revealed to him His glory.

YHWH chose Aaron from the tribe of Levi,

set him apart for holiness,

and dressed him in sacred garments.

He gave him the robe, the ephod, the breastplate,

woven with gold, blue, and crimson—

symbols of glory and beauty.

He placed upon him the crown of holiness—

engraved with the sacred Name,

a symbol of honor and consecration.

YHWH established with Aaron an eternal covenant:

to minister, to offer sacrifices,

to bless in His Name, and to serve the people.

He gave him incense and offerings,

appointed him to atone for Israel,

and entrusted him with the sacred flame.

Phinehas, the son of Eleazar,

was honored for his zeal—

he turned away wrath

and upheld the covenant in purity.

Therefore YHWH made with him a promise:

a covenant of lasting priesthood,

because he was jealous for righteousness,

and brought peace to the people.

YHWH made a covenant with David,

that a ruler from his line

would sit on the throne forever.

He established blessing in Aaron’s house

and strength in Moses’ hand.

Moses received kingship through obedience,

and Aaron received priesthood through holiness.

YHWH divided their roles in peace,

and each served according to the sacred plan.

But rebellious people stirred up strife,

and the earth opened her mouth

and swallowed the arrogant.

Yet YHWH remained faithful to His promises,

and His covenant stood firm through the generations.

———

Joshua, son of Nun,

was mighty in war and faithful in heart.

He succeeded Moses in leading the people,

a man filled with the spirit of wisdom.

YHWH honored him with great signs,

and confirmed him in the presence of Israel.

With one command, he stopped the sun,

and led the people into victory.

He stood strong against enemies,

and trusted fully in YHWH his God.

In his lifetime, he upheld righteousness,

and never let his strength falter.

Caleb, son of Jephunneh,

stood with courage when others trembled.

He received an inheritance among the faithful

because his heart was wholly devoted to YHWH.

Together, Joshua and Caleb

brought deliverance to the people,

and their names live on in honor.

Beloved by YHWH and His people,

Samuel was a prophet and judge in purity.

From his youth, he served before YHWH,

and His word was found on Samuel’s lips.

YHWH honored him with visions,

and established his words as truth.

He called on the Eternal,

and YHWH answered with thunder.

He anointed kings in faithfulness—

first Saul, then David, the chosen of YHWH.

No enemy ever overcame Samuel,

and he left behind a legacy of justice.

Even after death, his voice was heard,

and his words still carried power.

Many rose up to save the people,

each in their appointed time.

Some by wisdom,

others by might—

but all by the hand of YHWH.

They were not without weakness,

but they did not abandon the truth.

Their names remain in the scroll of life,

a witness to the generations to come.

———

After him came Nathan the prophet,

to awaken the heart with truth.

David, son of Jesse,

was chosen by YHWH from the sheepfold.

He was anointed with sacred oil,

lifted above his brothers,

crowned with strength and song.

He struck down the mighty,

and lifted the horn of Israel.

He sang psalms with all his heart,

and set the Lord’s praise upon his lips.

He established choirs for worship,

and appointed singers for the sanctuary.

He added beauty to the festivals,

and ordered the seasons with music and joy.

YHWH took away his sin,

and strengthened his throne forever.

He made a covenant with him—

that his descendants would rule in peace

if they kept the path of truth.

Then Solomon arose,

a king in the fullness of peace.

YHWH gave him rest on every side,

and he built a glorious temple for the Holy One.

He filled the sanctuary with majesty,

and his days overflowed with wisdom and song.

He was known in distant lands

for the richness of his understanding,

and all the earth came to hear his counsel.

But in the end, his heart grew divided.

He gave his love to many women,

and they turned him away from truth.

His strength faded with compromise,

and his legacy was shaken by error.

Still, YHWH did not forget His promise—

nor break the word He gave to David.

He raised up descendants

to preserve the lamp for Israel.

Rehoboam, his son, lacked understanding,

and through his pride, the kingdom was divided.

Jeroboam rose in rebellion,

and turned the people from the way.

He set up golden idols,

and led Israel into sin that would not be forgotten.

Their hearts were scattered,

and many fell away from the covenant.

But the mercy of YHWH remained—

ready for the repentant,

steadfast for the faithful.

———

Then Elijah rose like a fire—

his word burned like a torch.

He brought famine on the people in judgment,

and by his zeal, he shut up the heavens.

He called down fire from above,

three times consuming the altar with flame.

By the word of YHWH,

he raised the dead from the grave,

and brought life to the broken.

He rebuked kings with truth,

and led down rulers from their thrones.

He anointed kings for justice,

and prophets to carry the message forward.

He was taken up in a whirlwind of fire—

a chariot of flame,

horses of light.

It was written that he would return again,

to calm wrath before the day of judgment,

to reconcile parents with their children,

and turn hearts back to YHWH.

Blessed are those who saw him,

and those who will welcome him again.

Elisha rose in his place,

filled with a double portion of his spirit.

He did great wonders during his life,

and even after death,

his bones brought healing.

Nothing was too hard for him,

for the word of YHWH remained with him.

Hezekiah stood strong in his days,

and turned back the people to the path of life.

He fortified his city,

and brought water into its heart with skill.

He prayed in his sickness,

and YHWH heard him—

He added years to his life

and rescued him from death.

Isaiah the prophet was with him,

a man of great vision and truth.

Through Isaiah, YHWH turned back enemies,

and lifted up His people with healing and hope.

In all generations,

the faithful are honored by YHWH.

They stood in the gap when many fell,

and their words still burn with power.

Their bones rest in peace,

but their voice lives on.

Their legacy teaches courage,

and their lives call us to trust.

———

The memory of Josiah is like incense before YHWH—

it fills the house with sweetness.

He led the people with justice,

and removed idols from the land.

He turned to YHWH with all his heart,

obeying the law with strength and humility.

No king like him had ever returned to YHWH

with such wholehearted devotion.

The prophets supported him,

giving courage through sacred truth.

But the rest of the kings brought ruin—

they abandoned the Torah of the Most High,

and led the people into rebellion.

They gave their hearts to foreign idols,

and were swept away by their own shame.

Jeremiah was loved by his people

because he wept for their sins

and warned them of coming destruction.

He stood firm even in sorrow,

and bore the burden of a nation’s rebellion.

Ezekiel saw visions of glory,

and exposed the hidden sin of rulers.

He brought comfort to those in exile,

and pointed forward to hope.

The Twelve Prophets—

a single voice with many names—

warned, comforted, and called the people home.

Together they planted righteousness,

and preserved truth for future generations.

Zerubbabel was like a signet on the Lord’s hand,

and Jeshua, the high priest, stood beside him in faith.

Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem,

restored the people’s courage,

and governed with wisdom and strength.

Their memory is honored in every assembly—

because they never sought their own fame,

but the restoration of YHWH’s people.

Enoch walked with God and was taken up—

a sign of the promise to come.

Joseph ruled in Egypt with wisdom and grace.

His bones were remembered by his descendants

as a symbol of faith that endures.

———

How glorious he was,

surrounded by the people,

as he came out of the sanctuary like the morning star!

Like the full moon on a feast day,

like the sun shining on the temple of the Most High,

like the rainbow gleaming in radiant clouds—

Like roses in spring,

like lilies by a stream,

like incense rising from the altar—

He stood with honor,

clothed in majesty,

bearing the sacred robes of the high priesthood.

When he took his place at the altar,

and arranged the sacrifices with reverence—

He stretched out his hand to the cup,

poured the wine, and poured out the blood of the grape

at the foot of the altar.

A pleasing fragrance rose to the Most High,

to the King of all.

Then the people of Israel shouted for joy,

and the sound of praise echoed through the courts.

All bowed in worship,

singing with one voice,

as the music of heaven filled the sanctuary.

In harmony they lifted their praise,

until the service was complete

and the offering made perfect.

Then Simon came down,

and lifted his hands over the whole assembly.

With a voice full of blessing,

he spoke the Name of YHWH over the people.

And they fell down in worship

to receive the blessing from the Most High.

Now bless the God of all,

who works great wonders on earth;

Who increases our days from the womb,

and deals with us according to His mercy.

May He give us joy in our hearts,

and peace in our days.

May His mercy remain with us,

and may His name be honored across all generations.

Let peace be upon Israel.

Let truth dwell in the assembly of YHWH forever.

Two nations my soul hates,

and a third is no people at all:

The people of Edom,

the Philistines,

and the foolish people who dwell in Shechem.

Instruction in wisdom,

insight in understanding,

and words of truth were poured out by Simon,

son of Onias the high priest.

In his lifetime he repaired the house of YHWH,

and in his days strengthened the sanctuary.

He laid the foundation of temple defense,

and protected the people from enemies.

How he was honored

when the people gathered around him like wreaths around an altar!

He brought beauty to the sacred things

and ordered the feasts in their appointed times.

Until the end of his life he walked in peace,

and the people rejoiced in his leadership.

His memory is blessed forever.

Sirach 50 closes the book like a sacred benediction:

“Here is what true leadership looks like—

not loud,

not proud,

but pure.

Rooted in awe.

Crowned with peace.”

The high priest stands as a symbol of harmony—

between God and people,

heaven and earth,

truth and worship.

So let your life be a sanctuary.

Let your voice bless others.

Let your heart stay in rhythm

with the One who calls all things to praise.

———

I will give thanks to You, O YHWH and King,

and I will bless Your Name forever.

You rescued me from destruction,

and preserved me from the pit of death.

You pulled me from the trap of deceit,

from the slander of wicked tongues.

You delivered me from false accusation,

and saved me from a lying tongue.

In the face of death, I called upon You—

and You heard me.

I lifted up my voice from the grave,

and You did not turn away.

You rescued my life from destruction,

and restored my feet to the path of peace.

I will praise You openly before the congregation,

and bless You before all who seek truth.

Let all people know:

YHWH’s mercy endures,

and His deliverance is sure.

I sought Wisdom openly in my youth,

and I determined to pursue her path.

She was the joy of my heart,

and I followed her with all my soul.

From the beginning I turned my ear to her,

and I found instruction in abundance.

I advanced in wisdom with every step,

and I give glory to the One who taught me.

I resolved to live by her path.

I was zealous and did not turn away.

I stretched out my hands to the heavens,

and grieved over my own shortcomings.

My soul longed for Wisdom,

and I found her in the discipline of truth.

I found peace through her,

and in her I found a crown of joy.

My feet walked straight because of her,

and from my youth she became my teacher.

I inclined my ear a little—

and I received great understanding.

I gained more than I hoped for,

and found joy in her companionship.

Seek instruction with all your strength,

and never grow weary in the pursuit.

Consider how little I labored—

yet I gained much rest.

See for yourselves how much I profited,

and do not withhold your heart from her way.

Let your soul rejoice in Wisdom,

and never be ashamed to learn.

Work with her,

and she will honor you.

Lay hold of her,

and she will exalt you.

Let your lips speak with thanksgiving,

and your life become a song of praise.

Sirach 51 is a song, a prayer, a testimony, and a call:

“I was rescued.

I was taught.

I found peace.

And so can you.”

It tells us that the path of Wisdom

is not for the perfect—

but for the humble, the hungry, the teachable.

So:

Give thanks with your whole heart.

Seek Wisdom like treasure.

And let your life become the psalm that never ends.

Restored Translation Perspective

The Book of Sirach (also called Ecclesiasticus) is a rich and reverent work of Hebrew wisdom literature, written by Yeshua (Jesus) son of Eleazar son of Sirach around 200–175 BCE. Bridging the voice of the Torah with daily life, it speaks as both a mentor and father, offering counsel on everything from prayer and family life to speech, suffering, wealth, and death.

Wisdom begins with awe, humility, and truth.

The Set-Apart Spirit dwells with those who revere YHWH.

Walking in covenant trust protects from shame, fear, and deception.

Wisdom is a faithful companion, a mother, and a guide.

She instructs through correction, silence, Scripture, and creation.

All who truly desire her will find her.

All work has dignity: farmer, potter, priest, scribe.

Laziness dishonors the soul, while moderation preserves it.

Wisdom teaches how to manage money, time, rest, and ambition.

Speech must be measured, honest, and gracious.

Gossip and slander are forms of spiritual violence.

A person's true heart is revealed through what they say and when they speak.

Wise parenting is rooted in discipline, not indulgence.

Marriage is honored through modesty, loyalty, and trust.

True friendship is rare—and based on shared truth, not convenience.

Unjust gain defiles any offering.
