Revelation
Revelation
This vision opens with a sacred encounter. Written to persecuted gatherings under Roman rule, it pulls imagery from Daniel, Ezekiel, and the Tabernacle. The Anointed One appears in divine-human glory—calling the assemblies to prepare for spiritual refinement, not escapism. The symbols carry meaning rooted in Hebrew Scripture, not fear-driven futurism.
This is the unveiling of Jesus the Anointed One,
which God gave Him
to show His servants what must soon take place.
He made it known by sending His messenger
to His servant John,
who bore witness to the word of God
and the witness of Jesus the Anointed One—
everything he saw.
Blessed is the one who reads aloud
and those who hear
and take to heart what is written here,
for the appointed time is near.
John,
to the seven gatherings in the province of Asia:
Favor and peace to you
from the One who is, who was, and who is to come,
and from the seven spirits before His throne,
and from Jesus the Anointed One,
the faithful witness,
the firstborn from among the dead,
and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
To Him who loves us
and loosed us from our wrongs by His blood,
and made us a kingdom—priests to His God and Father—
to Him be glory and dominion forever.
Amen.
Look—He is coming with the clouds,
and every eye will see Him,
even those who pierced Him,
and all the tribes of the land will mourn because of Him.
So it shall be.
Amen.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Master God,
“the One who is, who was, and who is to come—
the All-Ruling One.”
I, John, your brother and partner
in the hardship, the kingdom, and the patient endurance
that are in Jesus,
was on the island called Patmos
because of the word of God
and the witness of Jesus.
I came into spirit on the Day of the Master,
and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet:
“Write what you see in a scroll
and send it to the seven gatherings:
to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira,
Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”
Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me.
And turning, I saw seven golden lampstands,
and among the lampstands was one like a son of humanity,
dressed in a long robe
with a golden sash around His chest.
His head and hair were white like wool, white as snow.
His eyes were like a flame of fire.
His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace.
His voice was like the sound of many waters.
In His right hand He held seven stars.
From His mouth came a sharp double-edged sword.
His face shone like the sun in full brightness.
When I saw Him,
I fell at His feet like one who had died.
But He placed His right hand on me and said:
“Do not be afraid.
I am the First and the Last—
the Living One.
I was dead,
and look—I am alive forever and ever.
And I hold the keys
of death and the realm of the dead.*
Write therefore what you have seen—
what is now, and what will take place after this.
As for the secret of the seven stars
you saw in My right hand,
and the seven golden lampstands:
The seven stars are the messengers of the seven gatherings,
and the seven lampstands are the gatherings themselves.”
———
These are personal messages from the Anointed One to seven real gatherings in Asia Minor, each facing unique trials, temptations, or compromise. These are not future "church ages"—they are spiritual evaluations rooted in local culture, Scripture, and divine wisdom. Every message uses Hebrew prophetic structure: commendation, correction, and call to overcome.
Write to the messenger of the gathering in Ephesus:
These are the words of the One
who holds the seven stars in His right hand
and walks among the seven golden lampstands:
“I know your deeds,
your labor,
and your endurance.
You cannot tolerate those who do wrong,
and you have tested those who claim to be sent ones
but are not,
and found them false.
You have persevered and endured hardship
for My name
and have not grown weary.
But I hold this against you:
You have let go of the love you had at first.
Remember how far you’ve fallen.
Turn back, and do what you did at first.
If not, I will come to you
and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you turn back.
But you do have this:
You hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans,
which I also hate.
Let the one who has ears
hear what the Spirit is saying to the gatherings.
To the one who overcomes,
I will grant to eat from the tree of life,
which is in the paradise of God.”
Write to the messenger of the gathering in Smyrna:
These are the words of the First and the Last,
the One who was dead and came to life:
“I know your hardship and your poverty—
but you are rich.
I know the slander of those
who say they are Jews and are not,
but are a gathering of the accuser.
Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer.
Look, the adversary is about to throw some of you into prison,
to test you,
and you will have hardship for ten days.
Be faithful until death,
and I will give you the crown of life.
Let the one who has ears
hear what the Spirit is saying to the gatherings.
The one who overcomes
will not be harmed by the second death.”
Write to the messenger of the gathering in Pergamum:
These are the words of the One
who has the sharp double-edged sword:
“I know where you live—
where the throne of the accuser is.
Yet you hold fast to My name,
and you did not deny your trust in Me,
even in the days of Antipas, My faithful witness,
who was put to death among you,
where the accuser dwells.
But I have a few things against you:
You have some there
who hold to the teaching of Balaam,
who taught Balak
to set a trap before the children of Israel—
to eat food offered to idols
and to engage in sexual immorality.
You also have those
who hold to the teachings of the Nicolaitans.
Turn back!
If not, I will come to you quickly
and wage war against them
with the sword of My mouth.
Let the one who has ears
hear what the Spirit is saying to the gatherings.
To the one who overcomes,
I will give the hidden manna,
and I will give a white stone
with a new name written on it—
known only to the one who receives it.”
Write to the messenger of the gathering in Thyatira:
These are the words of the Son of God,
whose eyes are like a flame of fire,
and whose feet are like polished bronze:
“I know your deeds—
your love and trust and service and endurance—
and that your latter deeds
are greater than the first.
But I have this against you:
You tolerate that woman Jezebel,
who calls herself a prophetess
and leads My servants astray
to commit sexual immorality
and to eat food offered to idols.
I gave her time to change,
but she refuses to turn from her immorality.
Look, I will throw her onto a sickbed,
and those who commit adultery with her
into great hardship—unless they turn back with her.
And I will strike her offspring with death.
Then all the gatherings will know
that I am the One who searches minds and hearts,
and I will give to each of you
according to your deeds.
But to the rest of you in Thyatira,
who do not hold to this teaching,
who have not learned ‘the deep things of the accuser,’
I say: I place no other burden on you.
Only hold fast to what you have
until I come.
To the one who overcomes
and keeps My deeds until the end,
I will give authority over the nations—
to shepherd them with a rod of iron,
as pottery is shattered—
just as I have received from My Father.
And I will give them the morning star.
Let the one who has ears
hear what the Spirit is saying to the gatherings.”
———
These final three messages expose urgent spiritual conditions: one looks alive but is fading, one is faithful yet fragile, and one is blind to its own barrenness. Yet each is deeply loved. The Anointed One offers correction—not condemnation—and a call to reign with Him. This is sacred coaching, not doomsaying.
Write to the messenger of the gathering in Sardis:
These are the words of the One
who has the seven spirits of God
and the seven stars:
“I know your deeds.
You have a reputation for being alive,
but you are dead.
Wake up!
Strengthen what remains and is about to die,
for I have not found your deeds complete
in the sight of My God.
So remember what you received and heard.
Hold it fast and turn back.
But if you do not wake up,
I will come like a thief,
and you will not know at what hour I come to you.
Yet you have a few in Sardis
who have not soiled their garments.
They will walk with Me in white,
for they are worthy.
To the one who overcomes,
they will be clothed in white garments,
and I will never blot out their name
from the scroll of life.
I will acknowledge their name
before My Father and His messengers.
Let the one who has ears
hear what the Spirit is saying to the gatherings.”
Write to the messenger of the gathering in Philadelphia:
These are the words of the Holy and True One,
who holds the key of David—
who opens and no one shuts,
who shuts and no one opens:
“I know your deeds.
Look—
I have placed before you an open door
that no one can shut.
You have little strength,
yet you have kept My word
and have not denied My name.
I will make those of the gathering of the accuser—
who say they are Jews but are not,
but lie—
I will make them come
and fall down at your feet
and know that I have loved you.
Because you have kept My call to endure,
I will keep you
from the hour of testing
that is coming upon the whole world
to test those who dwell on the earth.
I am coming soon.
Hold on to what you have,
so that no one may take your crown.
To the one who overcomes,
I will make them a pillar in the sanctuary of My God.
They will never leave it again.
I will write on them the name of My God,
the name of the city of My God—
the new Jerusalem,
which comes down from heaven from My God—
and My new name.
Let the one who has ears
hear what the Spirit is saying to the gatherings.”
Write to the messenger of the gathering in Laodicea:
These are the words of the Amen,
the faithful and true witness,
the ruler of God’s creation:
“I know your deeds—
that you are neither cold nor hot.
I wish you were either one or the other.
So because you are lukewarm—
neither hot nor cold—
I am about to spit you out of My mouth.
You say, ‘I am rich;
I have prospered and need nothing,’
but you do not realize
that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.
I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined by fire,
so that you may be truly rich,
and white garments to clothe yourself
and hide your shame,
and eye salve to anoint your eyes
so that you may see.
Those I love,
I correct and discipline.
So be earnest and turn back.
Look—
I stand at the door and knock.
If anyone hears My voice
and opens the door,
I will come in
and dine with them,
and they with Me.
To the one who overcomes,
I will grant the right
to sit with Me on My throne,
just as I overcame
and sat down with My Father on His throne.
Let the one who has ears
hear what the Spirit is saying to the gatherings.”
———
Revelation shifts now from earth to heaven—not as escape, but as a cosmic unveiling. John sees the central reality of the universe: a throne not vacant but occupied. The chapter echoes Ezekiel, Isaiah, and Daniel, portraying divine majesty not as domination but as radiant purity and life-giving power. What follows is not end-times prediction, but re-centering. The throne room becomes the interpretive lens for everything that unfolds next.
After this, I looked—
and there before me was a door
standing open in the sky.
And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said:
“Come up here,
and I will show you what must take place after this.”
At once I was in spirit,
and there before me was a throne in the heavens,
with someone sitting on it.
The One who sat there
had the appearance of jasper and carnelian,
and a rainbow that shone like emerald
encircled the throne.
Surrounding the throne
were twenty-four other thrones,
and seated on them were twenty-four elders,
clothed in white
and wearing gold crowns on their heads.
From the throne came flashes of lightning,
rumblings,
and thunder.
Before the throne
burned seven torches of fire—
the seven Spirits of God.
In front of the throne
was something like a sea of glass,
clear as crystal.
The Four Living Creatures
Around the throne, on each side,
were four living creatures,
full of eyes in front and behind.
The first creature was like a lion,
the second like an ox,
the third had a face like a man,
the fourth was like a flying eagle.
Each of the four living creatures
had six wings
and was covered with eyes all around,
even under the wings.
Day and night, without ceasing, they declare:
“Set-Apart, Set-Apart, Set-Apart
is the Lord God Almighty,
who was and is and is to come.”
The Worship of the Elders
Whenever the living creatures
give glory, honor, and thanks
to the One seated on the throne—
the One who lives forever and ever—
the twenty-four elders fall down before Him
and worship the One who lives forever.
They cast their crowns before the throne and say:
“Worthy are You, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for You created all things,
and by Your will they were,
and came into being.”
———
This chapter reveals the true center of power: not domination, but self-giving love. The One seated on the throne holds a sealed scroll—symbolic of God's redemptive plan for history—but no one is found worthy to open it. Then enters the paradox: the Lion is a Lamb, slain but standing. Heaven erupts in worship—not for wrath—but for the victory of a Lamb who redeems by sacrifice.
Then I saw in the right hand
of the One seated on the throne
a scroll
written on both sides
and sealed with seven seals.
And I saw a mighty messenger
proclaiming in a loud voice:
“Who is worthy
to open the scroll
and break its seals?”
But no one in the sky,
or on the earth,
or under the earth
was able to open the scroll
or even to look inside it.
And I began to weep bitterly
because no one was found worthy
to open the scroll
or look into it.
Then one of the elders said to me:
“Do not weep.
Look!
The Lion of the tribe of Judah,
the Root of David,
has conquered—
so He can open the scroll
and its seven seals.”
The Lamb Appears
Then I saw a Lamb—
standing as though slain—
in the center, between the throne
and the four living creatures,
and among the elders.
He had seven horns and seven eyes,
which are the seven spirits of God
sent out into all the earth.
He came
and took the scroll
from the right hand of the One
seated on the throne.
And when He took the scroll,
the four living creatures
and the twenty-four elders
fell down before the Lamb.
Each was holding a harp
and golden bowls full of incense—
which are the prayers of the set-apart ones.
And they sang a new song:
The Song of the Redeemed
**“Worthy are You
to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because You were slain,
and by Your blood
You purchased people for God
from every tribe and language
and people and nation.
You have made them a kingdom
and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”**
Myriads Join the Song
Then I looked,
and I heard the voice of many messengers,
numbering thousands upon thousands—
ten thousand times ten thousand.
They encircled the throne,
the living creatures,
and the elders.
And they sang in a loud voice:
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
to receive power and wealth
and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”
All Creation Responds
Then I heard every creature in the sky,
on the earth,
under the earth,
on the sea,
and all that is in them, saying:
“To the One seated on the throne
and to the Lamb
be blessing and honor
and glory and dominion
forever and ever!”
And the four living creatures said, “Amen,”
and the elders fell down and worshiped.
———
As the Lamb opens the scroll, we do not see divine wrath but human history unraveling—the direct result of empire, greed, conquest, and religious distortion. The first four seals unleash symbolic riders often called the "Four Horsemen"—not mystical curses but patterns of domination and collapse. The remaining seals reveal the cries of the faithful and the shaking of the powers that be. This chapter is a sobering mirror, not a map.
Then I saw the Lamb
open the first of the seven seals,
and I heard one of the four living creatures
say with a voice like thunder:
“Come!”
And I looked—
and there was a white horse.
Its rider held a bow,
and a crown was given to him,
and he rode out
as one bent on conquest.
When the Lamb opened the second seal,
I heard the second living creature say,
“Come!”
And out came another horse—fiery red.
Its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth
so that people would slaughter one another.
And a great sword was given to him.
When He opened the third seal,
I heard the third living creature say,
“Come!”
And I looked—
and there was a black horse.
Its rider held a pair of scales in his hand.
Then I heard what seemed to be a voice
from among the four living creatures, saying:
“A measure of wheat for a day’s wage,
and three measures of barley for a day’s wage—
but do not damage the oil and the wine!”
When He opened the fourth seal,
I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say,
“Come!”
And I looked—
and there was a pale horse.
Its rider was named Death,
and the realm of the dead followed after him.
They were given authority
over a fourth of the earth,
to kill with sword, famine, plague,
and by the beasts of the earth.
The Cry of the Faithful
When He opened the fifth seal,
I saw under the altar
the souls of those who had been slain
because of the word of God
and the witness they had given.
They cried out in a loud voice:
“How long, O Master—Set-Apart and True—
until You judge and make things right
for our blood
against those who dwell on the earth?”
Then each of them was given a white robe,
and they were told to rest a little while longer,
until the full number of their fellow servants—
their siblings—
should be complete,
those who were to be killed as they had been.
The Shaking of Earthly Powers
When He opened the sixth seal,
I looked—
and there was a great earthquake.
The sun turned black like sackcloth,
the full moon became like blood,
and the stars of the sky fell to the earth,
like figs dropped from a tree shaken by a storm.
The sky vanished like a scroll being rolled up,
and every mountain and island
was moved from its place.
Then the kings of the earth,
the rulers, the commanders,
the rich and the mighty,
and everyone—slave and free—
hid themselves in caves and among the rocks of the mountains.
They called to the mountains and rocks:
“Fall on us
and hide us from the face
of the One seated on the throne
and from the wrath of the Lamb!
For the great day of their reckoning has come—
and who can stand?”
———
Before the seventh seal is opened, there’s a divine pause. What follows is not escape but protection through the storm. God marks His own—not to remove them from suffering, but to preserve their purpose within it. The sealed 144,000 represent a symbolic fullness of covenant faithfulness, while the great multitude shows the result: global worship from every people group, standing in victory—not by the sword, but by the blood of the Lamb.
After this I saw four messengers
standing at the four corners of the earth,
holding back the four winds of the earth,
so that no wind would blow
on the land or the sea or any tree.
Then I saw another messenger
coming up from the rising of the sun,
having the seal of the living God.
He called out in a loud voice
to the four messengers
who had been given power
to harm the land and the sea:
“Do not harm the land
or the sea or the trees
until we have sealed
the servants of our God
on their foreheads.”
And I heard the number of those sealed:
144,000
from every tribe of the sons of Israel:
From the tribe of Judah, 12,000 sealed
From the tribe of Reuben, 12,000
From the tribe of Gad, 12,000
From the tribe of Asher, 12,000
From the tribe of Naphtali, 12,000
From the tribe of Manasseh, 12,000
From the tribe of Simeon, 12,000
From the tribe of Levi, 12,000
From the tribe of Issachar, 12,000
From the tribe of Zebulun, 12,000
From the tribe of Joseph, 12,000
From the tribe of Benjamin, 12,000 sealed
A Multitude from Every Nation
After this I looked—
and there before me was a great multitude
that no one could count,
from every nation, tribe, people, and language,
standing before the throne and before the Lamb.
They were clothed in white robes
and held palm branches in their hands.
And they cried out in a loud voice:
“Rescue belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb!”
And all the messengers
were standing around the throne
and around the elders
and the four living creatures.
They fell on their faces before the throne
and worshiped God, saying:
“Amen!
Blessing and glory
and wisdom and thanks
and honor and power and strength
be to our God forever and ever.
Amen!”
Who Are These in White?
Then one of the elders spoke to me:
“These clothed in white robes—
who are they,
and where have they come from?”
I said to him,
“My lord, you know.”
And he said to me:
“These are the ones
who have come out of the great pressure.
They have washed their robes
and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
For this reason they are before the throne of God
and serve Him day and night in His sanctuary.
And the One who sits on the throne
will shelter them with His presence.
They will never again hunger;
never again will they thirst.
The sun will not beat down on them,
nor any scorching heat.
For the Lamb at the center of the throne
will shepherd them.
He will guide them to springs of living water,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
———
When the final seal is opened, the result is not chaos, but silence—a sacred pause before judgment and renewal. Heaven holds its breath as prayers rise and trumpets prepare to sound. These trumpet blasts aren’t about divine rage; they reflect warning rhythms rooted in Exodus and the Prophets—calls to turn back, not end times destruction. This is a spiritual shaking of false foundations.
When the Lamb opened the seventh seal,
there was silence in the sky
for about half an hour.
Then I saw the seven messengers
who stand before God,
and seven trumpets were given to them.
Another messenger came
and stood at the altar,
holding a golden censer.
He was given much incense to offer,
with the prayers of all the set-apart ones,
on the golden altar before the throne.
The smoke of the incense,
with the prayers of the set-apart ones,
went up before God
from the messenger’s hand.
Then the messenger took the censer,
filled it with fire from the altar,
and threw it onto the earth.
And there were peals of thunder,
rumblings, flashes of lightning,
and an earthquake.
The Trumpets Begin
Now the seven messengers
who had the seven trumpets
prepared to sound them.
1st Trumpet: Earth Struck
The first messenger blew his trumpet,
and hail and fire, mixed with blood,
were thrown upon the earth.
A third of the earth was burned,
a third of the trees were burned,
and all the green grass was burned.
2nd Trumpet: Sea Struck
The second messenger blew his trumpet,
and something like a great mountain,
burning with fire,
was thrown into the sea.
A third of the sea became blood,
a third of the living creatures in the sea died,
and a third of the ships were destroyed.
3rd Trumpet: Rivers Struck
The third messenger blew his trumpet,
and a great star,
burning like a torch,
fell from the sky
on a third of the rivers
and on the springs of water.
The name of the star is Wormwood.
A third of the waters became bitter,
and many people died from the waters
because they had been made bitter.
4th Trumpet: Light Darkened
The fourth messenger blew his trumpet,
and a third of the sun was struck,
and a third of the moon,
and a third of the stars—
so that a third of their light was darkened.
A third of the day was without light,
and likewise a third of the night.
A Warning Cry
Then I looked,
and I heard an eagle flying high in the sky,
calling out in a loud voice:
“Woe! Woe! Woe
to those who dwell on the earth,
because of the remaining trumpet blasts
about to be sounded
by the three messengers!”
———
The next trumpet blasts don’t unleash literal monsters—they unveil spiritual corruption, deception, and internal torment. These are not judgments from God, but the consequence of a world aligned against Him. Locusts torment not nature, but the human spirit. Horsemen represent violent, idolatrous systems. The message is clear: violence, fear, and false worship enslave—but repentance is still possible.
5th Trumpet: The Abyss Opens
The fifth messenger blew his trumpet,
and I saw a star
that had fallen from the sky to the earth.
He was given the key
to the shaft of the abyss.
When he opened the shaft,
smoke rose like the smoke of a great furnace.
The sun and the sky were darkened
by the smoke from the shaft.
And out of the smoke came locusts upon the earth,
and they were given power
like that of scorpions.
They were told
not to harm the grass of the earth
or any plant or tree,
but only those who did not have
the seal of God on their foreheads.
They were allowed to torment them for five months,
but not to kill them.
And their torment was like the sting of a scorpion
when it strikes a person.
In those days people will seek death
but will not find it.
They will long to die,
but death will flee from them.
The Locusts’ Appearance
The locusts looked like horses
prepared for battle.
On their heads were what seemed like crowns of gold,
and their faces were like human faces.
Their hair was like women’s hair,
and their teeth were like lions’ teeth.
They had breastplates
like breastplates of iron,
and the sound of their wings
was like the roar of many chariots
rushing into battle.
They had tails with stingers, like scorpions,
and in their tails they had power
to torment people for five months.
They had a king over them—
the messenger of the abyss.
His name in Hebrew is Abaddon,
and in Greek, Apollyon—meaning Destroyer.
The first woe has passed.
Look—two woes are still to come.
6th Trumpet: The Four Bound Messengers
The sixth messenger blew his trumpet,
and I heard a voice
from the four horns
of the golden altar before God.
It said to the sixth messenger
with the trumpet:
“Release the four messengers
bound at the great river Euphrates.”
And the four messengers—
who had been kept ready
for this hour, day, month, and year—
were released
to kill a third of humanity.
The number of the mounted troops
was twice ten thousand times ten thousand.
I heard their number.
Fire, Smoke, and Sulfur
This is how I saw the horses in my vision
and their riders:
They wore breastplates
that were fiery red, dark blue, and sulfur yellow.
The heads of the horses
were like the heads of lions,
and fire, smoke, and sulfur
came out of their mouths.
A third of humanity was killed
by these three plagues—
by the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur
that came from their mouths.
The power of the horses
was in their mouths and in their tails—
for their tails were like snakes,
having heads with which they inflict harm.
But They Did Not Turn
The rest of humanity,
those who were not killed by these plagues,
still did not turn back
from the work of their hands.
They did not stop worshiping
demons,
idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood—
which cannot see or hear or walk.
Nor did they turn from their murders,
their sorceries,
their sexual immorality,
or their thefts.
———
Between trumpet blasts, a new scene unfolds: a mighty messenger descends, holding a small scroll. This is not a new set of judgments but a declaration—that the time is nearly complete, and the mystery of God is about to be revealed. John is told to eat the scroll, echoing Ezekiel and Jeremiah. The message is sweet in calling but bitter in consequence: the world resists truth, yet truth must be spoken.
Then I saw another mighty messenger
coming down from the sky,
robed in a cloud,
with a rainbow above his head.
His face was like the sun,
and his legs were like pillars of fire.
He held in his hand a little scroll,
which lay open.
He planted his right foot on the sea
and his left foot on the land,
and he cried out with a loud voice,
like the roar of a lion.
When he cried out,
the seven thunders raised their voices.
And when the seven thunders had spoken,
I was about to write—
but I heard a voice from the sky say:
“Seal up what the seven thunders said.
Do not write it down.”
There Will Be No More Delay
Then the messenger
I had seen standing on the sea and on the land
raised his right hand toward the sky,
and he swore by the One
who lives forever and ever—
who created the sky and everything in it,
the earth and everything in it,
the sea and everything in it—
“There will be no more delay.
But in the days when the seventh messenger
is about to sound his trumpet,
the mystery of God will be completed,
just as He declared to His servants the prophets.”
Take and Eat the Scroll
Then the voice I had heard from the sky
spoke to me once more:
“Go,
take the scroll
that lies open in the hand of the messenger
standing on the sea and on the land.”
So I went to the messenger
and asked him to give me the little scroll.
He said to me:
“Take it and eat it.
It will be sweet as honey in your mouth,
but it will turn bitter in your stomach.”
So I took the little scroll from the messenger’s hand
and ate it.
It was sweet as honey in my mouth,
but after I had eaten it,
my stomach turned bitter.
Then I was told:
“You must prophesy again
about many peoples, nations, languages, and kings.”
———
This chapter marks a turning point. We’re shown a symbolic Temple, two faithful witnesses, and a city that kills prophets—revealing spiritual rebellion and persecution. Yet in the end, the seventh trumpet sounds: the reign of the Anointed One is declared. The voices of heaven affirm: the time of human empire is ending; the time of justice, reward, and restoration is here. Heaven and earth are converging.
Then I was given a measuring rod, like a staff,
and was told:
“Rise and measure the sanctuary of God,
the altar,
and those who worship there.
But exclude the outer court.
Do not measure it,
because it has been given to the nations,
and they will trample the sacred city
for forty-two months.”
The Two Witnesses
“And I will grant authority
to My two witnesses,
and they will prophesy for 1,260 days,
clothed in sackcloth.”
These are the two olive trees
and the two lampstands
that stand before the Lord of the earth.
If anyone wants to harm them,
fire comes from their mouths
and devours their enemies.
This is how they must be killed.
They have authority
to shut the skies
so that it will not rain
during the days of their prophecy.
And they have power over the waters
to turn them to blood
and to strike the earth with every plague
as often as they desire.
The Beast Attacks the Witnesses
When they have finished their testimony,
the beast that comes up from the abyss
will wage war against them,
overcome them, and kill them.
Their bodies will lie in the main street
of the great city—
symbolically called Sodom and Egypt—
where also their Master was crucified.
For three and a half days,
some from every people, tribe, language, and nation
will gaze at their bodies
and refuse to let them be buried.
The inhabitants of the earth
will rejoice over them
and celebrate,
sending gifts to one another—
because these two prophets
had tormented those who dwell on the earth.
They Stand Up Again
But after the three and a half days,
the breath of life from God entered them,
and they stood on their feet,
and great fear fell on those who saw them.
Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying:
“Come up here.”
And they went up to heaven in a cloud,
while their enemies watched them.
At that moment,
there was a great earthquake,
and a tenth of the city collapsed.
Seven thousand people were killed,
and the rest were terrified
and gave glory to the God of heaven.
The second woe has passed.
Look—
the third is coming soon.
The Seventh Trumpet Sounds
The seventh messenger blew his trumpet,
and there were loud voices in the sky, saying:
“The kingdom of the world
has become the kingdom
of our Master and of His Anointed One,
and He will reign
forever and ever.”
And the twenty-four elders
who sit on their thrones before God
fell on their faces and worshiped, saying:
The Elders' Song
**“We give thanks to You,
Lord God Almighty,
who is and who was,
because You have taken Your great power
and have begun to reign.
The nations raged,
but Your wrath has come—
and the time has come
for the dead to be restored,
for rewarding Your servants the prophets,
and the set-apart ones,
and those who fear Your name,
both small and great—
and for destroying the destroyers of the earth.”**
The Sanctuary Is Opened
Then the sanctuary of God in heaven was opened,
and the ark of His covenant was seen within His sanctuary.
And there came flashes of lightning,
rumblings, peals of thunder,
an earthquake,
and great hail.
———
This chapter pulls back the curtain on cosmic conflict—not futuristic but ancient, symbolic, and ongoing. A woman gives birth to a child destined to rule. A dragon waits to devour him. The child is caught up to God, and war breaks out in the unseen realm. This is the Bible’s story in metaphor: the Anointed One’s mission, the accuser’s downfall, and the faithful remnant’s endurance. This is Genesis + Exodus + Messiah retold through the lens of Revelation.
A great sign appeared in the sky:
a woman clothed with the sun,
with the moon under her feet,
and a crown of twelve stars on her head.
She was pregnant
and cried out in labor and pain
as she was about to give birth.
Then another sign appeared in the sky:
a great fiery red dragon
with seven heads and ten horns,
and seven crowns on its heads.
His tail swept a third of the stars from the sky
and flung them to the earth.
The dragon stood before the woman
who was about to give birth,
so that it might devour her child
the moment he was born.
The Child Is Caught Up
She gave birth to a son,
a male child,
who will shepherd all the nations
with an iron rod.
And her child was caught up to God
and to His throne.
The woman fled into the wilderness
to a place prepared for her by God,
where she might be cared for
for 1,260 days.
The War in Heaven
Then war broke out in the sky.
Michael and his messengers
fought against the dragon.
And the dragon and his messengers fought back—
but he was not strong enough,
and there was no longer any place for them in the sky.
The great dragon was hurled down—
that ancient serpent
called the Accuser
and the Opposer of all—
the one who leads the whole world astray.
He was thrown to the earth,
and his messengers with him.
The Loud Voice in Heaven
Then I heard a loud voice in the sky say:
**“Now has come the rescue,
and the power and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of His Anointed One.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters—
who accuses them before our God day and night—
has been thrown down.
They overcame him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their witness.
They did not cling to their lives,
even in the face of death.
Therefore rejoice, O skies,
and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea,
because the accuser has gone down to you,
filled with great rage,
knowing his time is short.”**
The Woman Pursued
When the dragon saw
that he had been hurled to the earth,
he pursued the woman
who had given birth to the male child.
But the woman was given
the two wings of the great eagle,
so that she might fly
to the place prepared for her in the wilderness,
where she would be taken care of
for a time, times, and half a time,
out of the serpent’s reach.
Then the serpent spewed water like a river
from his mouth after the woman,
to sweep her away with the flood.
But the earth helped the woman
by opening its mouth
and swallowing the river
that the dragon had spewed from his mouth.
Then the dragon was enraged at the woman
and went off to make war
against the rest of her offspring—
those who keep the commands of God
and hold fast to the witness of Jesus.
And he stood on the shore of the sea.
———
Revelation 13 unveils how the dragon wages war on God’s people—not with fangs, but with systems of empire, deception, and control. Two beasts arise: one political, one spiritual. They imitate divine authority, demand loyalty, and use fear and seduction to lead the world astray. This is not futuristic sci-fi, but a timeless warning against corrupt religion and state merging to claim godlike devotion.
And the dragon stood on the shore of the sea.
Then I saw a beast
coming up out of the sea.
It had ten horns and seven heads,
with ten crowns on its horns,
and blasphemous names on its heads.
The beast I saw was like a leopard,
but it had feet like a bear
and a mouth like a lion.
The dragon gave the beast his power,
his throne,
and great authority.
One of its heads seemed to have a fatal wound,
but its wound had been healed.
And the whole world was filled with wonder
and followed the beast.
They worshiped the dragon,
because he had given authority to the beast,
and they worshiped the beast, saying:
“Who is like the beast?
Who can wage war against it?”
The Beast’s Blasphemy
The beast was given a mouth
to utter proud words and blasphemies
and to exercise authority for forty-two months.
It opened its mouth
to speak against God—
to blaspheme His name,
His dwelling,
and those who live in the sky.
It was given power to wage war
against the set-apart ones and to overcome them.
And it was given authority
over every tribe, people, language, and nation.
All inhabitants of the earth
will worship the beast—
all whose names have not been written
in the scroll of life
belonging to the Lamb who was slain
from the foundation of the world.
Call for Endurance
Whoever has ears, let them hear:
“If anyone is to be taken captive,
to captivity they will go.
If anyone is to be killed by the sword,
by the sword they must be killed.”
This calls for the endurance
and faithfulness of the set-apart ones.
The Second Beast — From the Earth
Then I saw another beast,
rising from the earth.
It had two horns like a lamb,
but it spoke like a dragon.
It exercised all the authority
of the first beast on its behalf,
and it made the earth and its inhabitants
worship the first beast,
whose fatal wound had been healed.
It performed great signs,
even causing fire to come down from the sky
in full view of people.
Because of the signs
it was allowed to perform on behalf of the first beast,
it deceived those who dwell on the earth.
It told them to make an image
in honor of the beast
that was wounded by the sword and yet lived.
It was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast,
so that the image could speak
and cause all who refused to worship it to be killed.
The Mark of the Beast
It also forced all people—
small and great,
rich and poor,
free and enslaved—
to receive a mark on their right hand
or on their forehead,
so that no one could buy or sell
unless they had the mark—
that is, the name of the beast
or the number of its name.
This calls for wisdom:
Let the one with insight
calculate the number of the beast,
for it is the number of a human.
Its number is six hundred sixty-six.
———
This chapter is a counter-vision to Revelation 13. Where the beasts demanded worship, now the Lamb stands with His own. Three angelic messengers proclaim urgent messages: worship the Creator, Babylon will fall, and those aligned with the beast face destruction. Two harvests follow—one for preservation, the other for reckoning. This is a call for discernment: will we align with truth or illusion, Lamb or empire, life or false power?
Then I looked,
and there was the Lamb,
standing on Mount Zion,
and with Him were 144,000
who had His name
and His Father’s name
written on their foreheads.
And I heard a sound from the sky
like the roar of rushing waters
and loud thunder.
The sound I heard was like harpists
playing their harps.
They sang a new song
before the throne
and before the four living creatures and the elders.
No one could learn the song
except the 144,000
who had been redeemed from the earth.
These are the ones
who have not defiled themselves with immorality;
they are spiritually pure.
They follow the Lamb wherever He goes.
They were redeemed from among humanity
as firstfruits for God and the Lamb.
And in their mouths was found no deceit—
they are blameless.
The Three Angelic Messages
Then I saw another messenger
flying in midair,
and he had the age-enduring good news
to proclaim to those who dwell on the earth—
to every nation, tribe, language, and people.
He said in a loud voice:
“Fear God and give Him glory,
because the hour of His judgment has come.
Worship the One who made the sky, the earth, the sea,
and the springs of water.”
A second messenger followed, saying:
“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great,
who made all the nations drink
the wine of the passion of her immorality.”
A third messenger followed them, saying in a loud voice:
“If anyone worships the beast and its image,
and receives its mark on their forehead or hand,
they too will drink the wine of God’s wrath,
which is poured full strength into the cup of His anger.
They will be tormented with fire and sulfur
in the presence of the sacred messengers and of the Lamb.
And the smoke of their torment rises forever and ever.
There is no rest day or night
for those who worship the beast and its image,
or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.”
Endurance of the Set-Apart Ones
Here is a call
for the endurance of the set-apart ones—
those who keep the commands of God
and the trust of Jesus.
Then I heard a voice from the sky say:
“Write this:
Blessed are the dead
who die in the Master from now on.”
“Yes,” says the Spirit,
“they will rest from their labors,
for their deeds follow them.”
The Harvest of the Earth
Then I looked,
and there before me was a white cloud,
and seated on the cloud
was one like a son of humanity,
with a crown of gold on His head
and a sharp sickle in His hand.
Another messenger came out of the sanctuary
and called in a loud voice
to the one seated on the cloud:
“Swing Your sickle and reap,
because the time to reap has come—
the harvest of the earth is ripe.”
So the one seated on the cloud
swung His sickle over the earth,
and the earth was harvested.
The Winepress of Wrath
Another messenger came out of the heavenly sanctuary,
and he too had a sharp sickle.
Still another messenger,
who had authority over fire,
came from the altar
and called in a loud voice
to the one with the sharp sickle:
“Gather the clusters of grapes
from the vine of the earth,
because its grapes are ripe.”
So the messenger swung his sickle on the earth,
gathered its grapes,
and threw them into the great winepress
of the wrath of God.
They were trampled in the winepress outside the city,
and blood flowed out from the press
as high as a horse’s bridle
for about 1,600 stadia.
———
Before the final signs unfold, we pause again—this time not in silence, but in worship. The faithful stand victorious, singing a song that joins Moses’ deliverance at the sea with the Lamb’s rescue through death. What follows is not impulsive wrath, but the final phase of divine justice—measured, righteous, and rooted in covenant. The sanctuary opens, and the seven messengers prepare the last signs.
Then I saw another great and marvelous sign in the sky:
seven messengers with seven final signs—
because with them
the wrath of God is brought to completion.
And I saw what looked like a sea of glass
mixed with fire,
and those who had overcome the beast
and its image and the number of its name
were standing beside the sea of glass,
holding harps of God.
They sang the song of Moses,
the servant of God,
and the song of the Lamb:
The Song of Moses and the Lamb
**“Great and marvelous are Your deeds,
Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are Your ways,
King of the nations.
Who will not fear You, O Master,
and bring glory to Your name?
For You alone are set-apart.
All nations will come and worship before You,
for Your righteous acts have been revealed.”**
The Sanctuary in Heaven Opens
After this I looked,
and the sanctuary—
the tent of witness in the sky—
was opened.
Out of the sanctuary came the seven messengers
with the seven signs.
They were dressed in clean, shining linen
and wore golden sashes around their chests.
Then one of the four living creatures
gave the seven messengers
seven golden bowls
filled with the wrath of God,
who lives forever and ever.
And the sanctuary was filled with smoke
from the glory of God and from His power,
and no one could enter the sanctuary
until the seven signs of the seven messengers were completed.
———
Revelation 16 reveals the final outpouring of divine justice—not blind rage, but righteous consequence. The bowls parallel Egypt’s plagues, exposing how corrupt systems mirror Pharaoh’s defiance. These signs are not cosmic revenge; they reveal what happens when humanity clings to power, deception, and exploitation. Even as the world breaks down, people refuse to turn. The chapter ends with a shaking: Babylon’s fall is near.
Then I heard a loud voice
from the sanctuary saying to the seven messengers:
“Go, pour out the seven bowls
of the wrath of God
on the earth.”
1st Bowl — Painful Sores
The first messenger went
and poured out his bowl on the land,
and ugly and painful sores
broke out on the people
who had the mark of the beast
and worshiped its image.
2nd Bowl — Sea Turns to Blood
The second poured out his bowl on the sea,
and it became like the blood of a dead person,
and every living thing in the sea died.
3rd Bowl — Rivers Turn to Blood
The third poured out his bowl
on the rivers and springs of water,
and they became blood.
And I heard the messenger of the waters say:
**“You are just, O Set-Apart One,
who is and who was,
because You have judged these things.
For they have poured out the blood
of the set-apart ones and the prophets,
and You have given them blood to drink—
they are receiving what they deserve.”**
And I heard the altar respond:
“Yes, Master God Almighty,
true and just are Your judgments.”
4th Bowl — Scorching Sun
The fourth poured out his bowl on the sun,
and it was allowed to scorch people with fire.
They were seared by the intense heat,
and they cursed the name of God,
who had authority over these signs.
But they did not turn to give Him glory.
5th Bowl — Darkness over the Beast’s Throne
The fifth poured out his bowl
on the throne of the beast,
and its kingdom was plunged into darkness.
People gnawed their tongues in pain
and cursed the God of heaven
because of their pain and sores,
but they still did not turn from their ways.
6th Bowl — The Euphrates Dries Up
The sixth poured out his bowl
on the great river Euphrates,
and its water was dried up
to prepare the way for the kings from the east.
Then I saw three impure spirits
that looked like frogs
come out of the mouth of the dragon,
the beast,
and the false prophet.
They are demonic spirits
performing signs,
and they go out to the kings of the whole world
to gather them for battle
on the great day of God Almighty.
“Look, I am coming like a thief!
Blessed is the one who stays awake
and keeps their garments with them,
so they will not go naked
and be shamefully exposed.”
Then they gathered the kings together
to the place in Hebrew called Armageddon.
7th Bowl — “It Is Done”
The seventh poured out his bowl into the air,
and a loud voice came from the sanctuary,
from the throne, saying:
“It is done!”
Then there came flashes of lightning,
rumblings, thunder,
and a great earthquake—
the strongest since humanity began.
The great city split into three parts,
and the cities of the nations collapsed.
God remembered Babylon the great
and gave her the cup
filled with the wine of the fury of His wrath.
Every island fled away,
and the mountains could not be found.
From the sky
huge hailstones, each about a talent in weight,
fell on people.
And they cursed God
because of the plague of hail—
so severe was the destruction.
———
This chapter reveals the full unmasking of Babylon—not a future city, but a symbol of corrupt empire: seductive, violent, and spiritually unfaithful. She rides the beast, intoxicated with power and the blood of the innocent. Yet her fall is inevitable—betrayed by the very forces she empowered. This is a message to every generation: no matter how impressive or dominant an empire appears, its end is written.
Then one of the seven messengers
who had the seven bowls
came and said to me:
“Come,
I will show you the judgment
of the great prostitute
who sits by many waters.
The kings of the earth
committed immorality with her,
and the inhabitants of the earth
were made drunk
with the wine of her immorality.”
Then the messenger carried me away in spirit
into a wilderness.
There I saw a woman
sitting on a scarlet beast
that was covered with blasphemous names
and had seven heads and ten horns.
The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet,
and was glittering with gold,
precious stones, and pearls.
She held a golden cup in her hand,
filled with abominations
and the filth of her immorality.
On her forehead was written a name—mystery:
“Babylon the Great,
the Mother of Prostitutes
and of Earth’s Abominations.”
I saw that the woman was drunk
with the blood of the set-apart ones
and the blood of the witnesses of Jesus.
When I saw her,
I was greatly astonished.
The Mystery Explained
Then the messenger said to me:
**“Why are you amazed?
I will explain to you the mystery
of the woman and of the beast she rides,
which has the seven heads and ten horns.
The beast you saw
was, and is not,
and is about to rise from the abyss
and go to destruction.
The inhabitants of the earth
whose names have not been written
in the scroll of life
from the foundation of the world
will be astonished
when they see the beast,
because it was, and is not, and yet will come.”**
The Seven Heads and Ten Horns
**“This calls for a mind with wisdom.
The seven heads
are seven hills
on which the woman sits.
They are also seven kings:
five have fallen,
one is,
and the other has not yet come;
but when he does come,
he must remain only a little while.
The beast who was and is not
is also an eighth,
and belongs to the seven,
and it is going to destruction.
The ten horns you saw
are ten kings
who have not yet received a kingdom,
but who for one hour
receive authority as kings with the beast.
These kings are of one mind,
and they give their power and authority to the beast.
They will wage war against the Lamb,
but the Lamb will overcome them—
because He is Lord of lords and King of kings,
and those with Him
are called, chosen, and faithful.”**
The Betrayal of Babylon
Then the messenger said to me:
**“The waters you saw,
where the prostitute sits,
are peoples, multitudes, nations, and languages.
The beast and the ten horns you saw
will hate the prostitute.
They will bring her to ruin,
leave her naked,
eat her flesh,
and burn her with fire.
For God has put it into their hearts
to carry out His purpose—
to agree together
to give their kingdom to the beast
until the words of God are fulfilled.
The woman you saw
is the great city
that rules over the kings of the earth.”**
———
Revelation 18 is the funeral dirge of empire. Babylon—symbol of every corrupt system that profits from exploitation, deception, and violence—is judged and brought down. The world mourns because its idols and wealth have collapsed. But heaven rejoices: true justice has come. This chapter exposes what happens when nations build themselves on greed and domination—and invites us to come out before collapse begins.
After this I saw another messenger
coming down from the sky.
He had great authority,
and the earth was illuminated by his glory.
With a mighty voice he shouted:
**“Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!
She has become a dwelling for demons,
a haunt for every impure spirit,
a cage for every unclean bird,
and for every unclean and detestable beast.
For all the nations
have drunk the wine of her passionate immorality.
The kings of the earth
committed adultery with her,
and the merchants of the earth
grew rich from her excessive luxury.”**
Come Out of Her, My People
Then I heard another voice from heaven say:
**“Come out of her, My people,
so that you will not share in her sins
or receive any of her plagues.
For her sins are piled up to the sky,
and God has remembered her injustices.
Give back to her as she has given;
pay her back double for what she has done.
Pour her a double portion
from her own cup.
Give her as much torment and grief
as the glory and luxury she gave herself.
In her heart she says,
‘I sit enthroned as queen;
I am not a widow;
I will never mourn.’
Therefore in one day her plagues will overtake her—
death, mourning, and famine.
She will be consumed by fire,
for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.”**
The Kings Mourn Her
When the kings of the earth
who committed adultery with her
and shared her luxury
see the smoke of her burning,
they will weep and mourn over her.
Terrified at her torment,
they will stand far off and cry:
“Woe! Woe to you, great city,
you mighty city of Babylon!
In one hour your judgment has come!”
The Merchants Weep
The merchants of the earth
will weep and mourn over her,
because no one buys their cargo anymore—
cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls;
fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth;
every sort of scented wood,
articles of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble;
cinnamon and spice, incense, myrrh and frankincense,
wine and olive oil, fine flour and wheat;
cattle and sheep; horses and carriages;
and human lives—slaves and souls of people.
They will say:
“The fruit you longed for is gone from you.
All your luxury and splendor have vanished,
never to be recovered.”
The merchants who gained wealth from her
will stand far off, terrified at her torment.
They will weep and mourn and cry:
“Woe! Woe to you, great city,
dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet,
glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls!
In one hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin!”
Shipmasters and Sailors Cry Out
Every sea captain,
all who travel by ship,
the sailors,
and all who earn their living from the sea
will stand far off.
When they see the smoke of her burning,
they will exclaim,
“Was there ever a city like this great city?”
They will throw dust on their heads,
and with weeping and mourning cry out:
“Woe! Woe to you, great city,
where all who had ships on the sea
became rich through her wealth!
In one hour she has been brought to ruin!”
Rejoice, Heaven!
“Rejoice over her, O heaven!
Rejoice, set-apart ones, sent ones, and prophets!
For God has judged her
for the way she treated you.”
Babylon Thrown Down
Then a mighty messenger
picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone
and threw it into the sea, saying:
**“With such violence
the great city of Babylon will be thrown down,
never to be found again.
The sound of harpists and musicians,
flute players and trumpeters,
will never be heard in you again.
No worker of any trade
will ever be found in you again.
The sound of a millstone
will never be heard in you again.
The light of a lamp
will never shine in you again.
The voice of bridegroom and bride
will never be heard in you again.
Your merchants were the world’s elite,
and by your sorcery
all the nations were led astray.
In her was found
the blood of prophets and set-apart ones,
and of all who have been slain on the earth.”**
———
After the fall of Babylon, heaven explodes in praise. The false kingdom has collapsed, and the wedding of the Lamb has come. The true King appears—not as a beast, but as a rider on a white horse, leading justice, truth, and mercy into final victory. This is the unveiling of the faithful Word of God, confronting and defeating deception and domination with the sword of truth.
After this I heard what sounded like the roar
of a great multitude in the sky shouting:
**“HalleluYah!
Rescue and glory and power
belong to our God,
for His judgments are true and just.
He has judged the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her immorality,
and He has avenged the blood
of His servants poured out by her hand.”**
And again they shouted:
“HalleluYah!
The smoke from her rises
forever and ever!”
The twenty-four elders
and the four living creatures
fell down and worshiped God,
who was seated on the throne.
And they cried:
“Amen! HalleluYah!”
The Wedding of the Lamb
Then a voice came from the throne, saying:
“Praise our God,
all you His servants,
you who fear Him,
both small and great!”
Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude,
like the roar of rushing waters
and loud peals of thunder, shouting:
**“HalleluYah!
For the Master our God Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and be glad
and give Him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and His bride has made herself ready.
She was given fine linen,
bright and clean to wear.”**
(The fine linen is the righteous deeds
of the set-apart ones.)
Then the messenger said to me:
“Write this:
Blessed are those
who are invited to the wedding feast
of the Lamb!”
And he added:
“These are the true words of God.”
At this I fell at his feet to worship him.
But he said:
“Don’t do that!
I am a fellow servant with you
and with your siblings
who hold to the witness of Jesus.
Worship God!
For the witness of Jesus
is the spirit of prophecy.”
The Rider on the White Horse
Then I saw heaven opened,
and there before me was a white horse,
whose rider is called Faithful and True.
With justice He judges and wages war.
His eyes are like flames of fire,
and on His head are many crowns.
He has a name written on Him
that no one knows but Himself.
He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood,
and His name is The Word of God.
The armies of heaven
follow Him on white horses,
clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
Out of His mouth comes a sharp sword
with which to strike down the nations.
He will shepherd them with a rod of iron.
He treads the winepress
of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.
On His robe and on His thigh
He has this name written:
KING OF KINGS
AND LORD OF LORDS
The Beast and the False Prophet Destroyed
Then I saw a messenger
standing in the sun,
who cried in a loud voice
to all the birds flying overhead:
“Come, gather together
for the great supper of God,
so you may eat the flesh
of kings, generals, and the mighty,
of horses and their riders,
and the flesh of all people—
free and enslaved, great and small.”
Then I saw the beast
and the kings of the earth
and their armies
gathered to wage war
against the rider on the horse and His army.
But the beast was captured,
and with it the false prophet
who had performed signs on its behalf.
With these signs he had deceived those
who had received the mark of the beast
and worshiped its image.
The two of them were thrown alive
into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.
The rest were killed with the sword
that came out of the mouth
of the rider on the horse,
and all the birds gorged themselves
on their flesh.

This chapter portrays the restraining of the accuser, the reign of the faithful, and the final end of evil. The “thousand years” has long been debated—but here, it functions as a symbol of divine restraint and restorative justice, not a calendar prediction. The true point is that deception is restrained, the faithful are raised to reign, and the second death is defeated. At last, death, deceit, and rebellion are cast down.
Then I saw a messenger
coming down from the sky,
holding the key to the abyss
and a great chain in his hand.
He seized the dragon—
that ancient serpent,
who is the Accuser and Opposer—
and bound him for a thousand years.
He threw him into the abyss,
locked it, and sealed it over him,
to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore
until the thousand years were finished.
After that, he must be released for a short time.
The Reign of the Faithful
Then I saw thrones,
and those seated on them
were given authority to judge.
And I saw the souls
of those who had been beheaded
because of their witness to Jesus
and because of the word of God.
They had not worshiped the beast or its image,
and had not received its mark
on their foreheads or their hands.
They came to life
and reigned with the Anointed One
for a thousand years.
(The rest of the dead did not come to life
until the thousand years were finished.)
This is the first resurrection.
Blessed and set-apart
are those who share in the first resurrection.
The second death has no power over them,
but they will be priests of God and of the Anointed One,
and they will reign with Him for a thousand years.
The Final Rebellion
When the thousand years are over,
the Accuser will be released from his prison
and will go out to deceive the nations
in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—
to gather them for battle.
They are like the sand of the sea in number.
They marched across the broad earth
and surrounded the camp of God’s people,
the beloved city.
But fire came down from heaven
and consumed them.
And the Accuser, who deceived them,
was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur,
where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown.
They will be tormented day and night
into the ages of the ages.
The Great White Throne
Then I saw a great white throne
and the One who was seated on it.
The earth and sky fled from His presence,
and no place was found for them.
And I saw the dead—
great and small—
standing before the throne,
and books were opened.
Another book was opened,
which is the scroll of life.
The dead were judged
according to what they had done,
as recorded in the books.
The sea gave up the dead that were in it,
and death and the realm of the dead
gave up the dead that were in them,
and each person was judged
according to what they had done.
Then death and the realm of the dead
were thrown into the lake of fire.
This is the second death—
the lake of fire.
Anyone whose name was not found
written in the scroll of life
was thrown into the lake of fire.
———
This is the climactic vision of restoration—not escape from the world, but the renewal of it. God does not abandon creation; He makes everything new. The holy city descends, not to take people away, but to bring heaven to earth. No more tears, no more death, no more distance between God and His people. This is Genesis fulfilled—a garden become a city, the divine dwelling among His beloved.
Then I saw a new sky and a new earth,
for the former sky and earth had passed away,
and the sea was no more.
And I saw the sacred city,
the new Jerusalem,
coming down out of the sky from God,
prepared like a bride
beautifully adorned for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying:
**“Look!
The dwelling of God is with humanity,
and He will live with them.
They will be His people,
and God Himself will be with them
as their God.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes.
There will be no more death,
or mourning, or crying, or pain,
for the former things have passed away.”**
Behold, I Make All Things New
And the One seated on the throne said:
“Behold, I am making all things new.”
Then He said:
“Write this down,
for these words are trustworthy and true.”
And He said to me:
**“It is done.
I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the Beginning and the End.
To the thirsty I will give water
without cost
from the spring of the water of life.
The one who overcomes
will inherit all this,
and I will be their God,
and they will be My child.
But the cowardly,
the faithless,
the vile,
murderers,
sexually immoral,
sorcerers,
idolaters,
and all who love lies—
their place will be in the lake
that burns with fire and sulfur.
This is the second death.”**
The Bride, the City
Then one of the seven messengers
who had the seven bowls
full of the seven last signs
came and said to me:
“Come,
I will show you the bride,
the wife of the Lamb.”
And he carried me away in spirit
to a great and high mountain
and showed me the sacred city,
Jerusalem,
coming down out of the sky from God.
It shone with the glory of God,
and its brilliance was like a rare jewel,
like jasper, clear as crystal.
The City’s Foundation and Walls
It had a great, high wall
with twelve gates,
and at the gates twelve messengers,
and names written on the gates—
the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.
There were three gates on the east,
three on the north,
three on the south,
and three on the west.
The wall of the city had twelve foundations,
and on them were the names
of the twelve sent ones of the Lamb.
The messenger who talked with me
had a measuring rod of gold
to measure the city,
its gates and its walls.
The city was laid out like a square,
as long as it was wide.
He measured the city with the rod
and found it to be 12,000 stadia
in length, width, and height—equal in all directions.
He measured its wall,
and it was 144 cubits thick
by human measurement,
which the messenger was using.
The wall was made of jasper,
and the city of pure gold,
clear as glass.
The foundations of the city walls
were decorated with every kind of precious stone:
Jasper
Sapphire
Chalcedony
Emerald
Sardonyx
Carnelian
Chrysolite
Beryl
Topaz
Chrysoprase
Jacinth
Amethyst
The twelve gates were twelve pearls,
each gate made of a single pearl.
The street of the city
was of pure gold,
like transparent glass.
No Temple — God Is the Light
I did not see a temple in the city,
because the Master God Almighty
and the Lamb are its sanctuary.
The city does not need the sun or the moon
to shine on it,
for the glory of God gives it light,
and the Lamb is its lamp.
The nations will walk by its light,
and the kings of the earth
will bring their splendor into it.
Its gates will never be shut by day—
and there will be no night there.
They will bring the glory and honor
of the nations into it.
But nothing impure will ever enter it,
nor anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful—
only those whose names
are written in the Lamb’s scroll of life.
———
The story ends where it began: in a garden, now fully restored as a city where the tree of life flourishes and God walks with His people again. There is no curse, no night, no death—only light, healing, and joy. And the final call goes out: Come. This is not just the end of Revelation—it's the goal of all history. A new Eden. A new humanity. A new world, united with the Divine.
Then the messenger showed me
the river of the water of life,
clear as crystal,
flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb
down the middle of the great street of the city.
On each side of the river
stood the tree of life,
bearing twelve kinds of fruit,
yielding its fruit each month.
And the leaves of the tree
are for the healing of the nations.
No longer will there be any curse.
The throne of God and of the Lamb
will be in the city,
and His servants will serve Him.
They will see His face,
and His name will be on their foreheads.
There will be no more night.
They will not need the light of a lamp
or the light of the sun,
for the Master God will give them light,
and they will reign
into the ages of the ages.
These Words Are Trustworthy and True
Then the messenger said to me:
“These words are trustworthy and true.
The Master, the God of the spirits of the prophets,
has sent His messenger
to show His servants
what must soon take place.”
“Behold, I am coming soon!
Blessed is the one
who keeps the words of the prophecy
written in this scroll.”
Worship God Alone
I, John, am the one
who heard and saw these things.
And when I had heard and seen them,
I fell down to worship
at the feet of the messenger
who had been showing them to me.
But he said to me:
“Do not do that!
I am a fellow servant with you
and with your siblings the prophets,
and with those who keep the words of this scroll.
Worship God!”
Then he told me:
**“Do not seal up the words
of the prophecy of this scroll,
because the time is near.
Let the one who does wrong
continue to do wrong;
let the vile person continue to be vile;
let the one who does right
continue to do right;
and let the set-apart one
continue to be set apart.”**
Behold, I Am Coming Soon
**“Behold, I am coming soon!
My reward is with Me,
and I will give to each person
according to what they have done.
I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End.”**
Blessed Are Those Who Wash Their Robes
**“Blessed are those
who wash their robes,
that they may have the right
to the tree of life
and may enter the city
through the gates.
Outside are the dogs,
the sorcerers,
the sexually immoral,
the murderers,
the idolaters,
and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.”**
I, Jesus, Have Sent This Message
**“I, Jesus, have sent My messenger
to give you this testimony for the gatherings.
I am the Root and the Offspring of David,
the bright Morning Star.”**
The Final Invitation
The Spirit and the bride say, **“Come!”
Let the one who hears say, **“Come!”
Let the one who is thirsty come;
and let the one who desires
take the water of life freely.
Do Not Add or Take Away
I warn everyone
who hears the words
of the prophecy of this scroll:
If anyone adds to them,
God will add to that person
the signs described in this scroll.
And if anyone takes words away
from this scroll of prophecy,
God will take away from that person
any share in the tree of life
and in the sacred city,
which are described in this scroll.
Yes, I Am Coming Soon
He who testifies to these things says:
“Yes, I am coming soon.”
Amen.
Come, Master Jesus.
The favor of the Master Jesus
be with all the set-apart ones.
Amen.
