Holy Book of the Great Invisible Spirit

The [holy] book [of the Egyptians] 1about the great unseen [Spirit, the] Father whose name cannot be uttered, [he who came] forth from the heights of [the perfection, the] light 1of the light of the [aeons of light], 1the light of the [silence of the] forethought and the Father of the silence, the [light] 1of the Speech and the truth, the light [of the imperishabilities, the] infinite light, 1[the] radiance from the aeons of light 1of the undisclosed, uncharacterized, 1ageless, undeclarable Father,5 the aeon of the aeons, Self-Generated One, self-generated, self-originating, alien, the truly real aeon.

Three powers proceeded from him; they are the Father, the Mother, and the Son, from the living silence, what proceeded from 1the imperishable Father. These came [forth from] the silence of the unknown Father. [And] from that place Domedon Doxomedon came [forth, the aeon of] the aeons and the [light of] each one of [their] powers. [And] thus the Son came [forth] fourth; the Mother [fifth; the Father] sixth.

He was [Text missing] but unheralded; [it is he] who is un marked among 1all [the powers], the glories, and the [imperishabilities].

From that place 1the three powers [came] forth, the three ogdoads that [the Father 1brings] forth, in silence with his forethought, 1from his depth, i.e. 1the Father, the Mother, and the Son. The <first) ogdoad, because of which the triple-male child proceeded, which is the thought, and [the] Speech, and the imperishability, and the eternal 1[life], the will, the mind, and the prior knowledge, the androgynous Father.

The second ogdoad-power, the Mother, the virgin Barbelon epititioch[Text missing] 1ai, memeneaimen[Text missing] who presides over the heaven, karb[Text missing] the uninterpretable power, the unspeakable Mother. [She originated] from herself [Text missing]; she proceeded; [she] agreed with the Father [of the] silent [silence].

The third ogdoad-[power], 1the Son of the [silent silence], and the crown of the silent silence, [and] 1the glory of the Father, and the vir tue [of the Mother. He] produces from the depth the seven powers of the great 1light of the seven voices, and the Speech [is] their completion.

These are the three [powers], the three ogdoads that the Father [through] his forethought brought [forth] from his depth. He brought them [forth] at that place. Domedon 1Doxomedon proceeded, the aeon of the aeons, and the [throne] which is in him, and the powers [which surround] him, the glories and the [imperishabilities. The] Father of the great light [who came] forth from the silence, he is [the great] Doxomedon-aeon in which [the thrice]-male child rests.

And the throne of his [glory] was established [in it, 1this one] on which his undisclosed name [is inscribed], on the tablet [Text missing] one is the Speech, the [Father of the light] of everything, he [who came] forth from the silence, while he rests 1in the silence, he whose name [is] in an [unseen] symbol. [A] 1hidden, [unseen] mystery 1came forth iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii[iii] 1eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee[ee o] ooooooooooooooooooooo uu[uuu] 1uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu eeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee aaaaaaa[aaaa] aaaaaaaaaaa [oo] 06666666660. And [in this] way the three powers offered praise to the [great], in visible, unnamable, 1virginal, uninvocable Spirit, and [his] 1male virgin. They asked [for a] power.

A silence of living silence proceeded, namely [glories] and 1incorruptions in the aeons [ . . . aeons] myriads added [on . . . , the] three males, [the three] male offspring, the [male] races filled the great Doxomedon-[aeon with] the power of the Speech of the [whole plero ma].

Then the triple-male [child of the great] 1Christ whom the [great] in visible Spirit had anointed - he [whose] power [was called] Ainon - gave [praise to] the great unseen Spirit [and his] male virgin Yoel, [and] the silence of silent silence, and the [greatness] IV that [Text missing] 1ineffable. [Text missing] 1ineffable [Text missing] 1unanswerable and 1unin terpretable, the first one who has [proceed], and (who is undeclarable, [Text missing] which is wonderful [Text missing] unspeakable [Text missing] , he who has 1all the greatnesses [of] greatness [of] the silence at 1that [place]. The thrice-[male 1child] brought 1praise and asked [for a 1power] from the [great, unseen, virgin] Spirit.

Then there appeared at [that] place [Text missing] who [ . . . who] sees [glories . . . ] treasures in a [ . . . 1invisible] 1mysteries to [Text missing] 1of the silence [who is the male] virgin [Youel].

Then [the child of the] child Esephech [appeared]. And [thus] he was completed, 1namely, the [Father, the] Mother, the [Son], the [five] seals, the unconquerable power which [is] the great [Christ] of all the imperishable ones. [Text missing] holy [Text missing] the end, [the] imperishable ■[Text missing] 1and [Text missing] , they are powers [and glories 1and] imperishabilities [Text missing] 1they proceeded [Text missing] . This one brought [praise] 1to the undisclosed, hidden [mystery . . . 1the] hidden [Text missing] him in the [ . . . 1and] the aeons [Text missing] thrones, [Text missing] and 1each one [Text missing] myriads of [powers] without number surround [them, glories] and 1incorruptions [Text missing] and they [ . . . of] the Father, [and] the [Mother, and] the Son, a n d [the] whole [Fullness] which I [mention ed] before, [and the] five seals [and the mystery] of [mysteries].

They [appeared . . . who] presides [over . . . ] and the aeons [of . . . really] 1truly [Text missing] and the [Text missing] eternal [Text missing]•21 and the [really] truly [eternal] aeons.

Then [forethought proceeded 1from silence], and the [living silence of] the Spirit, [and] 1the Speech [of] the Father, and [a] 1light. [She . . . the five] seals which [the Father brought] forth from his depth, and she passed [through] all the aeons which I mentioned before. And she established thrones of glory [and myriads] of angels [without] number [who] surrounded them, [powers and incorrupt ible] glories, who [sing] and give glory, all giving praise with [a single voice], 1with one accord, [with 1one] never-silent [voice . . . 1to] the Father, and the [Mother, and the] Son [ . . . and all the] pleromas [that I] mentioned [before], who is [the great] Christ, who is from [silence, 1who] is the [imperishable] child 1Telmael Telmachael20 [Eli Eli] Machar Machar [Seth, the] power which really truly lives, [and the] male [virgin] who is with [him], Youel, [and] Esephech, [the] holder of glory, the [child] of the child [and the crown of] his glory [Text missing] of the five seals, [the] Fullness [that I mentioned be fore]. There the great self-generated 1living [Speech proceeded, 1the] true [god], the unborn physis, he whose name I shall tell, saying, [Text missing]aia[Text missing].....thaothosth[..], 1who [is the] son of the [great] 1Christ, who is the son [of 1the] unspeakable silence, [who] proceeded from the great [unseen] and imperishable [Spirit].

The [son] of the silence and [silence] appeared [ . . . unseen . . . man and the] treasures [of] his glory. [Then] 1he appeared in the revealed [Text missing]. 1And he [es tablished] the four [aeons]. With a Speech [he] established them. He brought [praise] to the great, [unseen], virgin Spirit, [the silence] of the [Father] in a silence [of the] 1living silence [of silence, 1the] place where the man rests.

[Text missing] through [Text missing] .

Then there proceeded [at [Meaning uncertain: from)] III that [place] the cloud [of the] great light, the living power, the mother of the holy, incor ruptible ones, 1the great power, the Mirothoe. And she gave birth to him whose name 1I name, saying, ien 1ien ea ea ea, three times. IV For this one, [Adamas], 1is [a light] which radiated [from the light; he is] the eye of the [light]. For [this is] the first man, III he through whom and to whom everything became, and without whom nothing became.

The unknowable, incomprehensible Father proceeded. He came down from above 1for the annulment of the de ficiency.

Then 1the great Logos, the divine Self-Generated One, 1and the imperishable man Adamas mingled with each other. A Logos of man came into being. However, the man came into being through a Speech. He 1gave praise to the great, unseen, 1incomprehensible, virgin Spirit, and the male virgin, 1and the triple-male child, and the male [virgin] Youel, and Esephech, the holder of glory, the child of the child and the crown of his glory, and the great Doxomedon-aeon, and the thrones which are in him, and the powers which surround him, the glories and the imperishabilities, and their whole Fullness which I mentioned before, and the ethereal earth, the receiver of God, where 1the holy men of the 1great light receive shape, 1the men of the Father of the silent, living silence, the Father 1and their whole Fullness as I mentioned before.

The great Logos, the divine Self-Generated One, and the imperishable man Adamas offered praise, 1and they petitioned for a power and eternal strength for the Self-Generated One for the completion of the four aeons, in order that, through them, there may appear [Text missing] the glory and the power of the unseen Father of the holy men of the great light which will come to the world which is the image of the night. The incor ruptible 1man Adamas petitioned for them 1a son out of himself, in order 1that he (the son) may become father of the 1immovable, imperishable race, so that, through it (the race), the silence 1and the voice may ap pear, 1and, through it, 1the dead aeon may raise itself, so that 1it may dissolve. And thus there proceeded, from above, the power of the great light, the Manifestation. She gave birth to the four great lights: Harmozel, Oroiael, Davithe, Eleleth, and the great imperishable Seth, the son of the imperishable man Adamas.

And thus the perfect hebdomad which exists in hidden mysteries became complete. When she [receives] the [glory] she becomes eleven 1ogdoads. And the Father nodded approval; 1the whole Fullness of the 1lights was well pleased. 1Their consorts proceeded 1for the completion of the ogdoad of 1the divine Self-Generated One: the 1Grace of the first light Harmozel, the Perception of the second 1light Oroiael, the Understanding 1of the third light 1Davithe, the Prudence of the fourth light Eleleth. This is the first ogdoad of the 1divine Self-Generated One.

And 1the Father nodded approval; the whole Fullness 1of the lights was well pleased. The (ministers) proceeded: the first one, the great Gamaliel (of) the first great light Harmozel, and the great Gabriel (of) the second great 1light Oroiael, and the great Samlo of the great light Davithe, and the great Abrasax of [the great light] Eleleth. And [the] consorts of these proceeded by the will of the good pleasure 1of the Father: the Memory of the great one, the first, Gamaliel; the Love 1of the great one, the second, Gabriel; 1the Peace of the third one, the great 1Samblo; the eternal Life 1of the great one, the fourth, Abrasax. Thus were the five ogdoads completed,'1a total of forty, as an uninterpretable power.

Then 1the great Logos, the Self-Generated One, 1and the Speech of the Fullness of the four lights offered praise to the great, unseen, uninvocable, virgin Spirit, 1and the male virgin, 1and the great Doxomedon-aeon, and the thrones which are in 1them, and the powers which surround them, glories, authorities, and the powers, and the triple-male child, and the male virgin25 Youel, and Esephech, the holder of glory, [the child] of the child and the crown of [his] glory, the whole ple roma, and 1all the glories which are there, th e infinite pleromas and the 1unnameable aeons, in 1order that they may name the Father 1the fourth with the imperishable 1race, and that they may call the seed of the Father the seed of the great Seth.

Then everything shook, and trembling took hold of the incorrupt ible ones.

Then the three male children proceeded from above down into the unborn ones, and the self-generated ones, and those who were begotten 1in what is begotten. 1The greatness proceeded, the whole greatness of the great Christ. He 1established thrones in glory, myriads without number, in the four aeons around them, myriads without number, powers and glories and imperishabilities. And they proceeded in this way. And the imperishable, spiritual church increased in the four lights of the great, living Self-Generated One, 1the god of truth, praising, 1sing ing, and giving glory with one voice, 1with one accord, with a mouth which does not rest, to the Father, and the Mother, and the Son, and their whole 1pleroma, just as I mentioned <before>. 1The five seals which possess the myriads, and they who rule over the aeons and they who bear the glory of the leaders were given the command to reveal to those who are worthy.

Amen.

Then the great Seth, the son of the imperishable man Adamas, offered praise to the great, unseen, uninvocable, unnamable, virgin Spirit, and the (male virgin, and the triple-male child, and the male) virgin Youel, and Esephech, the holder of glory, and the crown of his glory, the child of the child, and the great Doxomedon-aeons, and the Fullness which I mentioned before; and petitioned for his seed.

Then there proceeded from that place the great power of the great 1light Plesithea, the mother of the angels, 1the mother of the lights, the 1glorious mother, the virgin with the four breasts, bringing the fruit from Gomorrah as spring and Sodom, which is the fruit of the spring of Gomorrah which is in her. She proceeded 1through the great Seth.

Then 1the great Seth rejoiced a b o u t15 the gift which was granted him by the imperishable child. He took his seed from her with the four breasts, the virgin, and he placed it with him in the fourth aeon (or, IV 68, 3: [in] the four aeons), in the third great light Davithe. After five 1thousand years the great 1light Eleleth spoke: “ Let some one reign over the chaos and Hades.” And there appeared a cloud [whose name is] hylic Sophia [---- She] looked out on the parts [of the chaos], her face being like 1[ . . . in] her form [Text missing] blood. And [the great] angel Gamaliel spoke [to the great Gabriel], the minister of [the great light] Oroiael; 1[he said, “ Let an] angel proceed [in order that he may] reign over the c h ao s1[and Hades].” Then the cloud, being [agreeable, proceeded] in the two monads, 1each one [of which had] light.

[ . . . the throne], which she had placed in the cloud [above. 1Then] Sakla, the great [angel, saw] the great demon [who is with him, Nebr]uel. And they became [together a] begetting spirit of the earth. [They begot] assisting angels. Sakla [said] to the great [demon Neb]ruel, “ Let [the] twelve aeons come into being in [the . . . ] aeon, worlds [ . . . . . . ] the great angel [Sakla] said by the will of the Self-Generated One, “ There shall [be] the [Text missing] of the number of seven [Text missing] . ” And he said to the [great angels], “ Go and [let each] of you reign over his [world].” Each one [of these] twelve [angels] went [forth.

The first] angel is Ath[oth. He is the one] whom [the great] generations of men call [ . . . . The] second is Harmas, [who] is [the eye of the fire]. 1The third [is Galila. The] 1fourth is Yobel.

[The fifth is] Adonaios, who is [called] Sabaoth. The sixth [is Cain, whom] the [great generations of] men call the sun. The [seventh is Abel]; the eighth Akiressina; the [ninth Yubel]. The tenth is Harm[upiael.

The] eleventh is Arch[ir-Adonin]. The twelfth [is Belias.

These are] the ones who preside over Hades [and the chaos]. And after the founding [of the world] Sakla said to his [angels], “ I, I am a [jealous] god, and apart from me nothing has [come into being,” since he] trusted in his nature.

Then a voice 1came from on high, saying, “ The Man exists, and the Son of the M an.” Because of the descent of the image above, which is like its voice in the height of the image which has looked out, through the looking out of the image above, the first creature was formed. Because of this Metanoia came to be. She received her 1completion and her power by the will 1of the Father and his approval with which he approved of the great, imperishable, immovable race of the great, mighty men of the great Seth, in order that he may sow it in the aeons which had been produced, so that, through her (Metanoia), the deficiency may be filled up. For she had proceed from above down to the world which is the image of the night.

When she had come, she prayed for (the repentance of) both the seed of the archon of this aeon and the authorities who had proceed from him, that de filed (seed) of the demon-begetting god which will be destroyed, and the seed of Adam and the great Seth, which is like the sun.

Then the great 1angel Hormos came to prepare, 1through the virgins of the corrupted sowing of this aeon, in 1a Logos-begotten, holy ves sel, 1through the holy Spirit, 1the seed of the great Seth.

Then the great Seth came and brought his seed. And it was sown in the aeons which had been produced, their number being the amount of 1Sodom. Some say 1that Sodom is the place of pasture 1of the great Seth, which is G o m o rrah . But others (say) th a t the great Seth took 1his plant out of Gomorrah and 1planted it in the second place to which he gave the name Sodom.

This is the race which proceeded through30 Edokla. For she gave birth through the Speech 1to Truth and Justice, the origin of the seed of the eternal life which is with those who will persevere because of the knowledge of their emanation. This is the great, imperishable race which has proceed through three worlds to the world. And the flood came as an example for the consummation of the aeon.

But it 1will be sent into the world because of this race. A confla gration will come upon the earth. And grace will be with those who belong to the race 1through the prophets 1and the guardians who guard the life of the race. Because of this race famines will occur and plagues. 1But these things will happen because of the 1great, incorrupt ible race.

Because of 1this race temptations will come, a falsehood of false prophets.

Then the great Seth saw the activity of the devil, and his many guises, and his schemes which will come upon his imperishable, im movable race, and the persecutions of his powers and his angels, and their error, that they acted against themselves.

Then the great Seth offered praise to the great, uninvocable, virgin Spirit, and the male virgin Barbelon, and the triple-male child Telmael Telmael Heli Heli Machar Machar Seth, the power which really truly lives, and the male virgin Youel, and Esephech, the holder of glory, and the crown of his glory, and the great Doxomedon-aeon, and the thrones which are in him, and the powers which surround them, and the whole Fullness, as I mentioned before. And he petitioned for guards over his seed.

Then there proceeded from the great 1aeons four hundred ethereal15 angels, accompanied by the great Aerosiel and the great Selmechel, to guard the great, imperishable race, its fruit, and the great men of the great Seth, from the time and the moment of Truth and Justice until the consummation of the aeon and its archons, those whom the great judges have condemned to death.

Then the great Seth was sent by the four lights, by the will of the Self-Generated One and the whole Fullness, through <the gift) and the good pleasure of the great unseen 1Spirit, and the five seals, 1and the whole Fullness. He passed through the three parousias which I mentioned before: the flood, and the conflagration, 1and the judgment of the archons and the powers and the authorities, to save her (the race) who went astray, through the reconciliation of the world, and the baptism through a Logos-begotten body which the great Seth prepared for himself, secretly through the virgin, in order that the 1saints may be begotten by the holy Spirit, through unseen, secret symbols, through a recon ciliation of the world with the world, through the renouncing of the world and the god of the thirteen aeons, and (through) the convoca tions of the saints, and the unspeakable ones, and the imperishable bos om, and (through) the great light of the Father who preexisted with his Providence 1and established through her 1the holy baptism that sur passes the heaven, through the imperishable, Logos-begotten one, even Jesus the living one, even he whom the great Seth has put on. And through him he nailed the powers of the thirteen aeons, and es tablished those who are produced and taken away. He armed them with an armor of knowledge of this truth, with an unconquer able power of incorruptibility.

There appeared to them 1the great attendant Yesseus 1Mazareus Yessedekeus, the living 1water, and the great leaders, James the great and Theopemptos and Isaouel, and they who preside over the spring of truth, Micheus and Michar and Mnesinous, and he who presides over the baptism of the living, and the purifiers, and Sesengenpharanges, 1and they who preside over the gates of the waters, Micheus and Mi char, and they who preside over the mountain Seldao and Elainos, and the receivers of the great race, the imperishable, mighty men of the great Seth, the ministers of the four lights, 1the great Gamaliel, the great Gabriel, the great Samblo, and the great Abrasax, and they who preside over the sun, its 1rising, Olses and Hypneus and 1Heurumaious, and they who preside over the 1entrance into the rest of eternal5 life, the rulers Mixanther 1and Michanor, and they who guard the souls of the elect, Akramas and Strempsouchos, and the great power Heli Heli Machar Machar Seth, and the great unseen, uninvocable, 1unnameable, virgin 1Spirit, and the silence, and the great light Harmozel, the place of the living Self-Generated One, the God of the truth, and he who is with him, the imperishable man Adamas, the second, Oroiael, the place of the great Seth, and Jesus, who possesses the life and who came 1and crucified that which is in the law, the third, Davithe, the place of the sons of the great Seth, the fourth, 1Eleleth, the place where the souls 1of the sons are resting, 1the fifth, Yoel, who presides over the name of him to whom it will be granted to baptize with the holy baptism that surpasses the heaven, the imperishable one. But from now on through the imperishable man Poimael, and they who are worthy of (the) invocation, the renunciations of the five seals in the spring-baptism, these will know their receivers as they are instructed about them, and they will know them [Meaning uncertain: be known) by them. These will by no means taste death.

Ie ieus eo ou eo oua! Really truly, O Yesseus Mazareus Yessedekeus, O living water, O child of the child, O glorious name, really truly, 1aion o on [Meaning uncertain: O existing aeon), iiii eeee eeee oo oo uuuu oooo aaaa{a), really truly, ei aaaa oo oo, O existing one who sees the aeons! Really truly, aee eee iiii uuuuuu 60600600, who is eternally eternal, really truly, iea aio, in 1the heart, who exists, u aei eis aei, ei o ei, ei os ei [Meaning uncertain: (Son) forever, Thou art what Thou art, Thou art who Thou art)!

This great name 1of thine is upon me, O self-generated Perfect one, who art not outside me. I see thee, O thou who art visible 1to every one. For who will be able 1to comprehend thee in another tongue? Now that I have known thee, I have mixed 1myself with the immutable.

I have armed 1myself with an armor of light; I have become light. For the Mother was a t that place because of the 1splendid beauty of grace. Therefore I have stretched out my hands while they were folded. I was shaped in the circle of the riches of the light which is in my depth, which gives shape to the many 1begotten ones in the light into which no complaint 1reaches.

I shall declare thy 1glory truly, for I have comprehended 1thee, sou ies ide aeio aeie ois, O aeon, aeon, O God of silence! I 1honor thee completely. Thou art my 1place of rest, O son es es o e, the formless one who exists in the formless ones, who ex ists, raising up the man in whom thou wilt purify me into thy life, according to thine imperishable name. 1Therefore the incense of life 1is in me. I mixed it with water 1after the model of all archons, in order that I may live with thee in the peace 1of the saints, thou who existeth really truly for ever.

This is the book which the great Seth wrote, and placed in high mountains on which the sun has not risen, nor is it possible. And since the days of the prophets, and the apostles, and the preachers, the name has not at all risen 1upon their hearts, nor is it possible. 1And their ear has not heard it. The great Seth wrote this book 1with letters in one hundred and thirty years. He placed it in the mountain that is called Charaxio, in order that, at the end of the times and the eras, by the will of the divine Self-Generated One 1and the whole Fullness, through the gift 1of the untraceable, unthinkable, fatherly love, it may proceed and reveal this imperishable, holy race of the great savior, and those who dwell with them in love, and the great, unseen, eternal Spirit, and his only begotten Son, and the eternal light, and his great, incor ruptible consort, and the imperishable Sophia, and the Barbelon, and the 1whole Fullness in eternity.

Amen.
